Jake, when you had the oil pan off, it would have been a good time to replace the main seal. I believe it's a two piece deal on that same Cherokee. I helped a buddy replace the seal on his 2000 Cherokee. It's a bugger, but doable. We had to fashion a brass punch to knock the half moon seal up and over the top of the crank and out the bottom. Took a while to get it to start moving, but it finally budged and came right out. His Jeep was leaking for a while right there until we replaced the seal and the pan gasket.
Bro. He got Jade cut up knowing it would take months so that he doesn't have to make content for his patreon members. Duh. He's a smart guy and knows how to give himself a vacation.
For any oil leak on an XJ start at the top and work your way down. Any oil leak flows backwards and down towards the rear main seal area and can look like an oil pan or RMS seal leak. Check/replace in this order Valve cover gasket Oil filter adapter o rings Distributor gasket Then move to oil pan gasket and Rear main seal. Another leak prone area is the timing chain gasket (the thing you jacked with not that long ago) and the front crank seal in the timing chain cover. And why waste the time to pull the pan and not spend the extra 5 or 10 minutes to replace the rear main seal?
I mean.... a couple seconds of just a couple pictures... us wrangler peeps who subbed because we respect how you built up jade and were so impressed by it and how you survived in it.. every video where you don’t give us a single update...cmon. We wouldn’t care of it wasn’t finished. Just a small update would be nice please. Like, less than a 1 minute vlog saying “jade is still in multiple pieces, here’s a picture. Have a nice day” would be fine.
Jake you need to read your comments bro. I told you it was most likely the front crank seal getting fucked from you installing the new balancer. Just dont use the puller again like you did because it was you that took the chunks out of the original cover with long bolts through the damper
Hey Jake like you said everybody is been good to you except for your jeep. Time for a Toyota my friend you will expending more time traveling than fixing them. Just came back from Utah, Idaho, Wyoming. and Montana in a 1987 Toyota 4Runner. Zero, nada issues. Leaving on Wednesday to Baja on my newly rebuild 1992 Toyota truck with 1998 Toyota Tacoma 4 cylinders. I will let you know how it went. Adios Amigo
The star of this channel is his Jeep, Jade. And he has gotten a lot of followers because of the Jeep. He is a Jeep guy. To be honest, his Jeep breaking up more than usual actually gives him extra content. But it will not be a good idea for him to jump ship from Jeep to a Toyota. Then he would not be able to have those Jeep Jamborees. Now it will be Toyota Jamborees. Well, he should stick to Jeep. You see you are driving older Toyotas that have been fixed up right. He too just needs to fix his Jeep right and it will be good. Jeeps are not the most reliable, but it will survive. He gets a lot of help from the community.
As of today not Jade yet. Now his girlfriend jeep will be part of the non working jeep. Just came back today from the baja 500 race. I drove my 1992 Toyota 4x4 with 1998 Tacoma engine put about 2000 miles. No issues at all. He need a Tacoma. 👍🏾
Nice to see a Cherokee. Ive had one for a few years and love it and have come to learn the good and the bad very well. Don't know where you stand on the oil leak. Check the 90 degree bend coming out the block for the oil filter. They leak after a while. Never a big one. The valve covers leaks too. Both can be done in three hours with the right tools. Should have done the rear main while you had the oil pan out. very easy. Just time consuming.
Nice to see you post up again. Still leaking after oil pan gasket... Didnt you have the harmonic balancer off before in that XJ. I would be looking at that front crankshaft seal pretty hard. Actually i would have replaced it when the balancer was off.
Your girl wrenches! I love it! Welcome back Ben! Nice to see Dan and Jen again, too! Expo West is a dream of mine! If you ever make it to East again, I'll figure out how to get there in Red! Miss you
So... Jade, or no Jade. This is Jake's life and adventures. He is sharing them with the love of his life, four-legged loyal buddies, and close friends... And, the rest of us. He is doing something many want to or have daydreamed about. If I had a preference I would filter out the negative comments and look forward to what ultimately becomes of Jade and what happens next on "Wetterns Way".
brian patrick cork except he’s using other people’s money to live this dream and not fulfilling his promise to those people who pay him... nothing against him personally, he’s a good guy, but at the same time, he’s a bum who’s never worked a job and lives off selling snake oil.
@@eddies979 You don't know that for certain. Many of us that support Jake believe in the man, mission, and method. Give him some space and time. He might just blow you away with the results (his content to date is certainly no measure of "snake oil". By the way... He's no "bum who’s never worked a job", brother. For example, Jake served in the United States Air Force. All that said, I think it's terrific you want to see more of his journey.
brian patrick cork I hope you’re right and he does blow me away with his results...however since saying he was going on a 50 state road trip, he has picked up two more dogs, a girl, and another broken Jeep. Who’s paying for the dogs and the girl and the broken jeeps? He hasn’t had a job in a couple years...his patreons are paying for all of this and I think he’s been to 10 states??? Again, I hope he gets it back together and you’re right, but it ain’t looking good. Btw, I’m pretty sure he barely served and was never deployed. He quit because he wants to be an actor...watch his old videos from the sailboat days. Correct me if I’m wrong
@@brianpatrickcork4513 why doesnt he at least reply to people's comments ? On Instagram or here, why doesnt he show his interaction with Annie as much anymore, if you look at his video posts, hes posting less and less. It's like having a cell phone plan and each month you are given less and less data when you are paying. He disappears and doesnt say anything to those who are paying him basically. He doesnt do as much outdoors camping stuff anymore. He wasnt even at Overland expo west that long. Should I go on? You are backing him up, that's great, maybe cuz you met him, I met him as well as well as his friend. But there is the reality fact to be said here.... are you denying any points that I made? Click on his videos and look at his recent history uploads...just over the past 7 months.
At 59 seconds, there appears to be an image of the rear of Jade sitting on the shop floor. Not sure what is happening, but no photos of Jade since the new frame extension was welded together. Jake made a comment at Overland Expo West about wanting to be back on the road in June. Not sure how that is going to happen as updates are nowhere to be found. Not sure why since the build was suppose to be filmed live. Had to give it my first “negative” review over the past few years.
Mike Hoffman I don’t think that is actually the rear of Jade, it doesn’t look right, and they haven’t worked on Jade at that shop (or at least shown that they have worked on Jade there) I think it would be too much work to try and move Jade to that shop, cut in half as she is.
Like rolando moya said, its time for a toyota! They last forever and are great off road. I have a 3rd gen 4runner and i love it. Also heard good things overlanding with tacomas. Been subscribed for a while good videos! Cheers
It’s not just XJs, any Jeep 4.0 oil pan seal will leak if you don’t put a little RTV in 4 places on the bottom of the block. 2 spots where the block meets the rear cap and 2 spots where the block meets the timing chain cover. Then the seal and oil pan. Jake’s oil pan started leaking because the front of the oil pan seals to the timing chain cover. Probably damaged the oil pan seal when you pulled off and replaced the cover.
Hey Jake just want to say thanks for sharing your life with us. I recently purchased a roof top tent and plan on traveling in a few months to come. All because I got inspired by you
With it on the ground it's very easy to change the oil pan gasket with out moving anything your front 2 bolts on the pan are probably not gripping retap and add a little bit bigger bolt this was a fix for a 98 xj tighten from middle out in increments
Dont listen to all the hate man, people change, interests change, you have to make best with what you got at the moment. Do you some will leave others will come. Gl with everything
Hell yeah brother, just saw this channel and found some other Jeepers from good ole Wisconsin. Have some fun with the road trips and get as much beer and cheese in ya as humanly possible!
Great video and nice to see Kinsey as always, and the Ford get back up on the road again! Sometimes, an older vehicle will surprise you. Love Jade and hoping for an awesome product when you'll are finished. Apparently, the Cherokee "XJ" needed a bit more TLC. Still, I've always been a diehard CJ, YJ, TJ fan!
This is the second video I've watched....the first was the bed making video for 2 ppl...I'm sad to see that Jeep isn't in this vid. I haven't been as hurt since Jon killed Danny.
David C. There is a reason that the hero rides off into the sunset... a woman brings civilization into the mix.. the adventure is over... The reason you are not seeing jade is comfort... this relationship is done in a short time when they climb back into the old Jeep ....
One is not alone (solo) on an adventure. An adventure opens one up to new experiences, new people, new relationships. This is the second time we’ve seen a woman change the dynamic from adventure to, yes, comfort.
dang that's crazy about the flowers. Its aggravating having to switch up plans last minute, but It always adds to the adventure. you handled the frustration great 🤙🤙
I know because my 2000 XJ did the same thing and I thought it was the rear main, it was the o ring on the oil filter adaptor, 230000 miles not and does not leak a drop
I'd like to hear the progress of Jade and see some video of it..or at least tell us what's going on with it. I know it's a lot of work and expense plus it's taking up space in some other guys shop and hope it's not a turd sitting on his sidewalk... I've been watching your vids now a long time and for me it's always been about jeeps/wranglers. The Jade stretch build was an exciting thing for us subs and now we're all scratching our heads sayin "where's Jade?"..."how's the progress going?"..."did you give up on it or what?". If it was me, I'd be burning candles (working nights) to get'r done. It's none of my business yes, but you made it our business by videoing it to begin with. Let's get some answers! Be honest! Too expensive? Can't afford it right now? I respect honesty more than zipped-lips. And yes Kinsey is a DIME...in many ways....I bet she'd work along your side burning the midnight hours on Jade! Not too many women would do that! Maybe you traded-in Jade for Kinsey? If yes, then Kinsey was the better side of the trade! Lol. You can always get another wrangler but not a woman like her. But all-in-all, PEACE Jake and Kinsey.
@Scot Hughes I just heard the term "dime" the other day and thought it was a good thing...meaning a "10". Is it a bad term? if yes then sorry! I didn't mean for it to be a negative or a dirty word... didn't mean it to be a sexual thing either. I;m an old fart and still learning these new slangs lol.
@Scot Hughes Ok thanks! But in my eyes she's a 10...we all have different eyes. I don't call a woman a 10 based upon looks alone, but on her character AND looks. A woman's smile alone could be a Dime in my book. But that's just me. peace.
I'm gonna start making videos and get patreons , I've had to save a month to get my 2 other tires (got two last month ). I will likely never have enough for $800.00 bumpers and a $1300.00 roof rack yes that rack is $1300.00, Glad I can weld and build my own stuff , I may have taken me near a year to build my XJ but I done it myself and all the money came from MY pocket.
You guys this footage is from mother's day it's obviously old for All we know he could be in the Wrangler right now this isn't go to all states in one day he's trying to enjoy it maybe he's a little of schedule but Jesus look at his older videos he needs a break stop complaining and enjoy the videos
Passed you coming in to expo as I was headed in to town. I was the guy in the black hummer that yelled "Jake"!! Lol Sorry I didnt get to meet you. If you dm me your address I have something for you and Kenzie that I never had a chance to give you at expo. Stay cool
