Having an Overlanding fridge has been on our radar for some time now, but with all the unknowns that come with the purchase, we have been hesitant to pull the trigger. At the beginning of our Overlanding build, it was hard for us to justify spending over $1000 on a luxury item, but the more times you throw away food and spend money on ice you start to come to terms with the realization that an Overlanding fridge may actually make sense for the long term efficiency of your travels. If Overlanding is not a full-time hobby of yours and you're looking at where to best put your hard-earned money when it comes to building out your rig, I would look into other areas where you can best utilize your funds before jumping into a purchase this large. We are by no means experts at Overlanding or overland travel, but as time goes on we become more efficient every time our Jeep leaves the garage. This will be the same for you and your travels. Expanding on your rig and becoming more efficient is all part of the process of Overlanding. It will never be absolutely perfect, but with time and energy spent on the evolution of your rig things will become easier and better equipped for your adventures.

I run my frig/freezer as a freezer. I have a small cooler that I use as a frig. Move frozen food to cooler thus no need for ice. I freeze water bottles along the way if I need more ice. I was lucky & found a used Engel. I have a truck so space is not so critical. I run the Engel 24/7 in garage when not on the road. Power with goal zero when on the road.

Pre cooling the fridge is quite useful before putting into your vehicle, gets it down to temperature without drawing on the vehicle systems.

Josh, keep up the great work! Love the style of your videos. You two are down to earth and it comes across well. Like a friend or neighbor that’s figuring it out as he goes. My son is at Fort Riley and I just turned him on to you. He’s been working his way through from day one and has really enjoyed the trials and tribulations. Thank you!

Dometic makes all the ARBs. Bought mine at an Event Dometic had run out of fridges Rep set me up with a ARB dealer that was there. They acted like it was common knowledge first I had heard same factory.

It makes life so much easier without having to worry about ice or food getting wet. Having dometic and REDARC system with solar was a game changer for me

How do the solar panels work?? I was thinking about getting one for the Goal Zero. Your last trip looked badass!
@Hunter-oo4pj
@Hunter-oo4pj 3 года назад
Overlanding Now I have a 215w solar blanket from offgrid trek works great expensive but you get what you pay for when it comes to solar. I am running dual battery and the REDARC keeps the batteries charged I only really use solar if camped longer than two days straight. Yes the trip was awesome Moab was hott so we blasted to Colorado definitely going to go back to Moab but not in August lol

I use the Genesis Dual Battery system in my Jeep and when you are running a fridge, it is well worthwhile. I do not think I would like possibly being out somewhere with just one battery and it gets too low to crank. If for whatever reason, and it has happened to me one time, I was not paying attention, especially as my batteries were getting old, just open the hood, press a button and it combines your batteries and they will crank right up.

I've looked at the genisis system, but for the price I can build it myself with components off amazon for a fraction of the price. I totally agree with what you're saying about having a dual battery of some sort and I wouldn't go anywhere without one. Thanks for the input!

I never thought I'd need a freezer but it dog eats fresh food so now we're taking frozen packs of food on a one week trip. I can't think of another way to do that. And I recently heard Dometic makes ARB fridges.

if you don't have a dual battery setup, I have found the Dometic PLB40 battery (incredibly small and designed for fridges like this) works incredibly well and brdiges the gap between a dual battery setup and having nothing.
@roamingwithjosh
@roamingwithjosh 2 года назад
how long does it keep your fridge running?
@JasonWh
@JasonWh 2 года назад
@@roamingwithjosh It keeps the 73qt unit running about 60 hours or so in the following conditions (without charging the PLB40 overnight via my EcoFlow or 12V when driving to a different camp spot) fridge kept inside my gofastcamper shell at all times Average daily temp during testing 88 degrees Average night tem during testing 78 degrees Opened roughly 14 times a day contained two cases of soda in cans, sandwich meat, tomatoes, mayo, mustard, etc **I fould the blue Yeti brand freezer squares take up very little space and made a worthwhile difference providing passing cooling during the day. I froze them on the freezer side overnight and moved them (two of them) to the fridge side during the day.

Hi. Thanks for the vid. Do you mis having ice on long trips? Would you buy the single again or the dual zone. Damn a cocktail with ice on the third day! Thanks
@roamingwithjosh
@roamingwithjosh Год назад
I don't miss ice at all! I would probably go single zone because I've never intentionally used the freezer a single time.
@chrismharthart

@@roamingwithjosh Thanks. I thought the vid you did on the Fridge was a single zone.
