I do lots of hunting and I go through some tuff terrain , I buffed my tundra so many times there was no clear code left , I finely had it painted with rhino liner , it looks so cool and nothing scratches it anymore , love your videos brother , God bless

I switch from a 2018 Tacoma TRD Offroad to a 2016 F150 Extended Cab 5.0L with the FX4 Offroad Package. I agree with your pros and cons. Once you go full size with that 35 or 36 gallon tank their is no turning back. I am spoiled with my 630 mile range! The interior alongside my 6.5 ft bed is perfect for me as well as someone else coming along side.

Great thing about the 5.7s “archaic” design-it’s bulletproof. And once you’re off the highway there’s absolutely no mileage advantage to a turbo V6 eco boost. Every gas pickup we run on the farm here gets pretty much the same 13-14 mpg.

I drive a 2017 gmc 1500 sierra denali I 100% agree with your points. The first pin stripes made me cringe but then I went back the following week and so on and I have to say my full size overland truck never looked better. Gas price is small price to pay and well worth it 👌. I have 7" inch rc GM suspension lift kit/knuckle kit with 35x12.50r18 km3. The gas price doesn't bother me as much, it makes up for it on the the hwy and even sometimes on overlanding adventures. I was well aware of the gas price difference from mid and full size truck after all its my second full size truck I bought for overlanding. GREAT VIDEO MY FRIEND 👍✌.

As A proud owner of a midsize Tacoma, I have outgrown it physically but financially I’m stuck. so my dream vehicle is a full-size either a tundra or F150 it’s a dream because I want it already lifted with most of the mods that I like. All that would be pretty expensive so I’ll keep dreaming🤑

As an previous owner of Toyota land cruisers and hilux double cabs in Africa, and completing many overland trips, it’s well known that reliability is uppermost in our minds, a common saying in Africa is that you can fix only two vehicles on the road easily, that’s a Toyota and a Land Rover, believe me it’s true, even the smallest village had some sort of part inventory to fix a problem. After many years of travel and now living in the USA and owning a Tundra TRD PRO reliability is still with the Toyota’s
@gwot
@gwot 3 года назад
HAHAHA now those 2 things aren't even related to a Land Rover anymore. They're horrendously unreliable, AND hard to fix, so many things are hooked to a computer on board now.

So far everything for having a fullsize has worked nice. Plus for me I take my wife and 4 kids with me and they love every minute of it. My rig is a 1997 chevy k1500 suburban. Definitely not nice like yours but it cost me 800 bucks and a plan. I was overlanding in 2005 Volvo XC70, which is 2.5 turbo calling for premium gas. Gas-wise, Tundra cost me on par with that smaller turbo-engine in city driving. Tundra turns even less thirsty on a highway when all the stuff in Volvo's full length roof basket is dragging the car back, while in Tundra the same gear is hidden in vast and almost always empty space under its bed cap. I would not touch an old Volvo's reliability question, because such thing does not exist... Very glad that I finally bought my Tundra and can overland anywhere I want, not looking jealously at places where Volvo can't physically go or endlessly bury in its repairs.

Surprised you’re getting 13mpg on that as an average. We opted for Ram diesels because of the mileage was so bad on the Tundra and reliability of the Cummins was better. Best we saw on a trip with our buddy’s Tundra TRd Pro was 10mpg. Always good to see Tacoma guys go fullsize!!! Welcome to the club

David Markeilov yup! We just hit 112k and haven’t had a single thing break and only one major recall that we got upgraded from Synergy Suspension and approved by Mopar. Our fifth gen 4Runner was in the shop 6 months out of the year we owned it with issues and recalls and our friends Tundra has had tons of issues.
@RogueElement
@RogueElement 4 года назад
David Markeilov I spent 20 years in the car biz, the reliability for Toyota trucks and SUV’s no longer exists. ALL vehicles have their fair share of issues with a few pockets of problem children. Mine wasn’t a lemon, it was a common issue with the 2012 limited and most of the problems were serious recalls like the dangerous Takata airbag recall that they couldn’t fix at the time. My previous Toyota was Turd Furgeson too. Just have never had a good experience with them. All my years with Mopar, I have never had any issues after over half a million miles driving them and being hard on them. Had a few good chevys too but never owned a Ford even though I worked for them for 7 years. Cummins have legendary reliability. 300k mile motor almost every time if you don’t dick with it
@RogueElement

Great pros and con’s list! You hit it right on the nose if you want to overland or just 4 wheel drive on trails you have expect dings, dents and scratches. I bought a few quarter panels and had to repaint my truck a couple of times since I kept the F150 for 20 years and 200,000 miles. Now that I own a tundra and only pull my trailer that is all she serves me for. Another pLus is the reliability like you stated maybe a diNosuar but when I am on the road I can fix some things on it a plus service it for quite a few things, just changed all my diff fluids and gear box too. All of the Have 2 drain and fill plugs. Great vids also!,,

I was on a very narrow road yesterday. Pin stripping all over as the road was narrow only due to overgrowth. Had to turn around because a very large tree came down across the road. Too large for my dinky 12 inch blade chainsaw. Turning around meant backing into small branches but the tree trunks were not too far off the road. In a 4Runner that was possible, in a full size truck like a Tundra? That may well have been about 3 miles all in reverse.

As someone who just bought their first Jeep I can tell you I almost wish I would have gotten the gladiator. I am planning out a overland setup for a family of 4 and the space and tow rating of the JLU rubicon is a big bottleneck. At almost twice the tow rating of the wrangler it allows for so many more options.

Great video and information. I do agree a lot with what you are saying about the larger truck. I went thru a lot of the same decisions when looking for a truck to pull out small light hybrid camper and to take on overland adventures. First was the Tacoma. On print it was able to do the job. But as I researched I discovered once they where loaded up they where severely underpowered and got horrible fuel mileage. This would mean lots of pit stops to refuel which would be more money. On to the next truck was the Tundra. It had higher tow capacity, higher payload and more room. This truck check lots of the boxes off for me. I just could get over how much of a gas hog it was. Since I knew something’s about diesels I decided it would need to be consider. So I looked at a Ram 2500 Mega Cab truck powered by a 6.7 Cummins engine. The Cummins engine has been proved to be a great work horse engine. They are know for providing consistent reliable horsepower with gobs of torq. The truck has overbuilt solid axle front and back. This truck also has coil spring suspension front and rear for great suspension articulation. They payload and towing capacities are amazing. The interior is super spacious. And best of all It can tow a 4200lbs camper with 500lbs of gear and the family getting 15mpg going up and down mountain passes. Empty It get 19-20 mpg on the highway and 16-18mpg in town. I obviously chose the Ram and am loving it. I can’t wait to start outfitting it with equipment and gear for over landing trips.

Veros Works I’ve heard a lot of great things about the Cummins, and it sounds like your rig is perfect and makes you happy. Cheers to that! 🍻

The Tacoma is still a great truck if you don’t mind the space and power. I miss it

I can't wait to see her with the lift. I love watching your channle grom man you have done great at it! Another thing I really like is you talking about your pu I don't see a whole lot of people overlanding with a full-size pu and it gives me more hope with my old F250. Thanks for sharing this Ed. Stay safe and healthy brother!

I like the bed-top tent. Not so high off the ground and now you're gonna change it. Good video.

I have a ‘14 Ram 2500 that I’m considering putting a Carli suspension on. I live in the Sierra Nevada and find myself on trails that I wish I had some more clearance. It is expensive for sure. CJC Offroad in So Cal will do the work when I’m ready.

Hey man I love your full truck Toyota Tundra build! I recently just got into my first truck. 2017 Toyota Tundra SR5, it's not 4 wheel drive but I still love the way it drives! Thinking of keeping it for a couple years, maybe just do something simple like a lift&tires before I can trade her in for a 2020 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro 4×4 Calvary blue&I will probably go all out as I want to get into overlanding😎👌🏼

Hey Ed another great video. Your videos definitely help during this Covid-19 time. Always enjoy seeing how your truck evolves since purchase.... a really nice looking truck. Curious how many miles you have put on the truck in the last year. Looking forward to the next one

Great vid as usual. As far as your rack, pretty much all bed walls are flimsy. You should consider thru bolt the rack to the bed itself. Seen others do it, works great.
