I absolutely LOVE how Madhouse animated Ainz throughout the series, giving Ainz such character and personality, despite him being a skeleton with no facial structure. His disdain for the nobles was so thick, you couldn't cut it with a sword. And yes, Neuronist Painkill is the torturer monster you've seen already. Fun fact #1: In the light novel, Ainz literally considers either withdrawing(his message got across either way), or being merciful to the Kingdom. These nobles ruined that sentiment. Fun fact #2: what the anime didn't show you is how Ainz gave the nobles their reward(a "reward comparable to their efforts"). When the traitorous nobles asked that Ainz spare their families, you know what he did? He sent them to Neuronist too....

The ironic thing is that Ainz actually had some reservations about completeting the war to it's end like actually committing this final massacre he wasn't sure about it and when he met with Zanac Ainz really considered just blowing the whole thing off just forgetting about the war so when they delivered Zanac's head to Ainz that was the moment that sealed their fates. In that moment Ainz relinquished any last bit of sympathy of the humans of the kingdom. He's lost interest in thinking about the morality of this mass genocide that's about to occur and it's all due to Zanac's death. Zanac brought what was left of Ainz's humanity out and then those stupid nobles killed it and now they're gonna reap the full extent of his wrath

The Utopia Ainz was talking about related to all those under his rule not his enemies. It is kind of sad but Zanac was always a good man but due to his introduction and physical appearance many people think little of him till this point. It is amazing how much first impressions can affect a persons perception. His introduction was calling his sister Renner a monster but she was just the cute kind princess to us at the time so many people viewed him negatively. Even when Renners actual personality was revealed confirming Zanac was right the bias is easy to stick. In general this episode is a favorite of mine specifically for the discussion between Ainz and Zanac. One trying to make the people of his nation happy while the other trying to make their country respectable. Even when at war between the two nations they met and had an honest heart to heart. Both parties left with respect for the other side.

Hats of to you, you caught a lot of detail most youtubers don´t realize at first glance right away. Just shows how much you like the show :D Ainz´s dreams about of a utopia was to find his friends or make him visible to them but that´s a flame that is about to have gone out completely which is why he looks so somber when he thinks about it. It is also the reason that he´s taking these actions now. Ainz isn´t the typical overlord that does evil for the sake of evil, he´s doing this because it is what will make the people/npc´s in Nazerick happy (ironicly because they belive it will make Ainz happy). Ainz and Zanac have alot in common and they do come to respect each other here. What is omitted from the light novel is that this single conversation had Ainz wavering between scaling the extermination back because he listened to Zanac. So to cap this of. Ainz is royally pissed (top 3 in entire franchise) and the fact that this kingdom have done the 1. thing he despise the most (backstabbing once's comrades or allies) against a man he truly came to respect have cast of Ainz chain of morality for this kingdom. He said it himself he has lost interest, he can´t be bothered by them anymore and just tell the others to let lose.

Ainz was seething, so much so that his emotional suppression did not trigger. Also, your eyes widening when noticing he said "Neuronist" was pricless.

After Ainz finish talking to Zanack he want back to his chair and was rethinking whether to continue the attack or just forgive the kingdom by causing a bit of rampage and then asking them to surrender. The suit was left by one of the previous players. Suit is now owned by Azuth (Lakyus uncle) and giving him the strength of level 60 despite being 20+

7:40 Marquis Raven (he's seen a lot in episode 12 season 3) used to be with Prince Zanack all the time and as time continue they become good friends. So just the thought of his good friend working for his enemy put him in melancholy. Also, Raven was the only noble that always supported Zanack ideas

Ahh, I remember back at the beginning of season 2 when Gaz was suspicious of Zanac and trusted Renner, really good character development.

I honestly believe the prince was the last hope for the kingdom. Ainz was already conflicted and seemed to respect and even like the prince. Had he survived and led the war Ainz might just have changed his mind and allowed some of them to live - it's not like he doesn't already keep some humans around the little village near Nazarick.

This episode is executed sooo well. This is literally what i imagine when reading the Novel. Madhouse did a good job on this part. They really did. And as you said the way the scene potrayed like the butterfly, the way they did it just perfect for a scene with such a dark and light conversation. It just that good.

the black scripture are the group were Clementine came from... and the lider is her brother. Zanak earned Ainz respect and saw on him the person under the squeleton. That was really big for Ainz that is why he promised him a painfull dead because a pacefull dead is the best way to die for him. Being killed by his own soldiers to pray for live longer was the highest offense they could do to Nazarik.

This time the translation is correct. They were from the Theocracy (The theocrazy organizes all their squads into scriptures. We have till now met 2 scriptures: The sunlight scripture was destroyed by Ainz when it attacked Carne Village and tried to assasinate Gazef at the start of season 1. The Black Scripture is the elite Squad of the Theocracy. They were also the ones Shaltear encountered when she was in her blood rage which lead to the final fight of season one. Clementine was also a member of the black scripture before she betrayed them and stole the Crown of wisdom.

That episode is probably in my top 3, just for the Zanac/Ainz meeting + aftermath. One of the most brilliant moment I've seen animated, both in this anime, and in anime in general

Interestingly in the novel after speaking to Ainz, Zanac's view of how truly terrifying Ainz was increased because he saw that Ainz lacked the common weakness that plagues powerful beings, arrogance.

Some context to why Ainz told Zanac he's doing this for happiness is because it's dawning on Ainz the longer he spends in this world that his friends are not in this world and it's up to him to now create some semblance of happiness with what he was left with since he has such an empty longing feeling within him cuz of how he misses his friends. So there was a lot behind that answer of "happiness"

Tiny fact that you may already know. 10:11 I'm not sure if you already now this (because someone probably already told you in a comment) but I'm gonna put it here anyways. Evileye is also a vampire, that is why she uses something similar to Shaltear Charm Species. Is a bit difficult to catch since in season 2 episode 13 this is reveal to us when she takes he's mask off by around the end of the episode but is not mentioned.

The suit is another item from the Yggdrasil game. It was programmed into the game late so that new and low level players could reach level 100 faster. The guy in the armor is a descendant of warriors who fought against the evil gods among the 13 legendary heroes (and yes, the heroes and the evil gods were all players from Yggdrasil) and it gives him a level increase so that he reaches about level 60 in the armor. The large skeleton with two weapons was not a death knight, but a death warrior. He is the offensive variant of this type. And finally: In the novels it is explained that after talking to Zanac, Ainz thought to call off the attack. But when the nobles thought it would be a good idea to kill the prince and give Ainz his head, he discarded this thought and sent them (and their families) to Neuronist

By the way I don’t know if you’ve noticed but in the beginning of the Opening it shows ainz and some of the supreme beings, and Ainz Did a HUGE mistake by letting Zanack die he would’ve been a good friend of ainz

in the Novel Ainz was way more extreme, he practically was like "so you don't want to die? i make sure you won't even if you beg me for it", also he tortured their families as well

I find people dismiss anime as ‘cartoons’, my response to this sentiment is that it is simply a medium to convey a story. There are scenes you can create much easier in an animated medium then with actors or props. When you take away the pressure to make things look real the art can really be expressed in beautiful way.

I think the great thing about Ains is that he was true to his word. He did spare the nobles and their family but their existence would be of endless torture. It was just a monkey paw situation. In the end the nobles would have to willing want to die which make Ains stay true to original agreement, he didn't kill them they asked to die.

Tiny fact 5:00 Ainz was actually expecting a powerful being to appear and destroy or fight against the two undead he send, but the reason why he was surprised is because the being who shoe up was using something from Yggdrasil.

This episode was a reminder that: in Nazarick, death is mercy.

The Power Suit was obtained from a cross event between Yggdrasil and a Gundam video game, since everyone could get the Power Suit the suit consumes a lot of power so new players won't be able to use it right away but the suit was also limited in power so old players don't abuse this power.

I believe the darkening of the seen could be the drawing of the curtain, the behind the scenes of the overlord Ainz Ooal Gown. His mask falls for just a moment and you see the very simple, very human, motivations behind the monster

It makes perfect sense. If you could secure an eternity of peace for your people simply by murdering a few hundred thousand people from another country, as a leader it's a no-brainer. By massacring the Re-Estize Kingdom, Ainz creates a situation where hundreds of years from now, when someone else starts to get funny ideas about starting trouble with the Sorcerer Kingdom, He can point to the dead, black spot on the map where the Re-Estize Kingdom used to be and say "See that? Remember what happened to them? Sit down unless you want that to happen to you too." It's a ruthless approach, but in the long term it will mean a more secure peace.

Yeah, that pissed Ainz off. He didn't like what they did at all, at all, at all.

There is a point made in the series that a quick and painless death is a reward from Nazarick to adversaries they respect. They usually make their enemies get tortured, get healed and thrown into torture again and again. And when they kill their enemies, they do it in a way that completely crushes their spirits (and bodies), leaving them in total despair before dying. Like Clementine, or the Light Scripture prisoners.

Remember, in Nazerick you can only die if they permit it They can bring those nobles to death's door then heal them back to full vitality just to repeat the process

A fun fact, Maruyama (the writer and creator of Overlord) had once said that if Gazef, Renner, and Zanac had worked together, they could have turned the Kingdom into a great one.

One thing that sets the Baharuth Empire and the Re-Estize Kingdom apart is how its ruler deals with the nobles. El-Nix got his nickname "Bloody Emperor" for violently purging nobles getting in his way. Since no one would dare questioning his decisions, the Empire quickly submits to Ainz and suffers pretty much nothing in Season 4. Ramposa III has a hard time negotiating his ways with the nobles, and is unwilling to make sacrifices. After the events in Season 3, he is just too weak to reform the Kingdom. Political complications eventually lead to the events in Season 4.

I remember when I first watched the ending here where Ainz sent those nobles to their end it gave me chills. Also, the English VA for that scene delivers, you can really hear the rage in his voice.

In Dante's Divine Comedy the lowest level of Hell was reserved for those who betray. I imagine Dante's would raise a wine glass in salute to Ains for his treatment of the nobles.

also the peopple from the slain theocrasy all wear ygdrassil equipment that the 6 great gods (players basically) from 600 years ago left. thats why its so weird and seeminglly unpractical. just think of how players today decorate their avatars

"Why would Ainz kill everyone" Things in this world are vary different from our own. Your average human is only level 10-15, so a level 25 trained warrior could wipe out a village in 30mins. We actually seen that with Nigun in season one... his group of Sunlight Scriptures destroyed a hand full of small villages before Gazef even caught up to him... So you have to think about, how can Ainz truly protect everyone within his kingdom? Ainz's answer is... scare the shit out of everyone so much that they wouldn't even ponder the idea of it. As we have seen earlier with Nigun and the Slain Theocrac... no one is going to risk a little battle to rob a village with the possible threat of losing their whole kingdom. While Ainz's solution is dark... very dark... it also is very affective.

It was very surprising to see you remember the name of Neuronist Painkill. Not criticizing you but nearly all the other characters you had problems remembering their names from episode 1. I am glad this was the first isekai anime you watched, it does world building better than nearly all other in the genre.

Fun little fact the blonde dude from the third group to enter the room is actually clementines brother. She was originally a part of the group but she ended up stealing the crown of wisdom from one of the Theocracy's priestesses and went to E-rantel where she also met ainz.

Also there is some other facets to this whole scenario that will...not be exactly apparent, but will make things in the coming episodes ^_^ It's worth noting that while Ainz might respect Jircnav (I can never spell his name) as a king and want to learn how to "be a king" from him, Zanac and Ainz bonded and were very "real" with each other, and under other circumstances may have become friends. As for the ending....Ainz is very pissed. You've seen him throw tantrums and such, but this was a straight up fury masked with a face of calm. The inflections in his voice give me chills when I hear them. The only thing I don't like is...the families sent to Neuronist too. It's 100% certain absolutely innocents were sent as well (this would include kids and stuff) and they got this due to the rash acts of these blind nobles. Do those guys deserve it? absolutely. When I think of the kids and unfortunately related family members? I do feel quite bad for them.

The wording was very specific when he was talking to the now deceased king. He said he planned to kill him gently out of respect for the bravery and the outright royalty he showed, but that did not extend in the least to the cowards who killed him. I wish we got to see more of them interacting, it seems like they actually could have gotten along swimmingly in different circumstances.

yet another fun fact. nazaric has 3 powered suits in the armory, hand made by the guild's blacksmith. he wanted to pvp but after a spar with perorronchino he concluded their uslles in high level pvp. basically they exist to help low level players to level up fast by killing mobs.

Not only does Ainz not like what they did, but Albedo or Demiurge probably would have sent them to neuronist as well. For any denizin of Nazarik loyalty is the highest virtue, more than anything else, betrayal is something they will not forgive.That's part of why Albedo and Aura simle when Ainz gives the orders. The worst thing is, of everyone alive, the prince was the only person at that point that truely respected Ainz, everyone else is scared of him or worships him but the prince saw who Ainz realy is under all the masks and respected him.

In the meeting with Zannec, Ainz is basically saying that his followers are bloodthirsty, and the Re-Estize Kingdom has plenty of blood for them... It's not that Ainz wanted to destroy the kingdom at this point, it's because he leads a guild full of monsters....

The translation was wrong only in the parts when it's mentioned the shipment of food from the Sorcerer Kingdom to the "Theocracy" that is in reality the Holy kingdom, the subs ar fine when speaking of any other thing, like the black scripture that is indeed part of the Theocracy

We often view Ainz from our perspective from our whole that is relatively peaceful. However, the new world is different.... some races like trolls only understand strength... the strong rule and that is it. They don't follow kings or emperors... Ainz completely destroying the Re-Estize kingdom is a message that everyone will understand for hundreds if not thousands of years. Ainz's future people won't have to live in fear of monster attacks, bandits, or other kingdoms. Remember back in season 1 episode 3 when the knights were attacking Carne Village? These were from the Slain Theocracy pretending to be from the empire. They wiped out multiple villages in hopes of luring gazef and killing him so the Empire could take over RE-Estize. These 3 kingdoms have been fighting each other for hundreds of years... with basically a war every year.... Ainz's message is cruel, but it is very clear.

It never covers it in the anime. But Ainz was starting to doubt his resolve, and was planning to not slaughter the army, because of his conversation with Zanac. As he grew to respect Zanac as a true ruler during it. But with his death, and the fact that those under Zanac would go against him, and kill him, for their own survival (notice how they only asked for themselves to be spared. And only their families when pushed? Not their subjects) Ainz lost all interest and chose to wipe out the army, and torture those who betrayed Zanac Although even this is reading between the lines, as none of this is directly stated by Ainz. More so comments and actions that cause fairly solid implication

the prince moved ains and he was actually thinking of sparing the kingdom until the nobles killed the prince after that ains didnt care anymore and was ticked, you got to remember that it might be brutal but we all have that same idea aslong as the people we care about are happy we do not mind taking away other peoples happiness or even lives, heck even for some oil
