There is a difference between class/racial skills(abilities) and using magic. The effects might be magical but they are still a innate skill and not a spell.

to elaborate, ainz didnt use magic, he used enchanted weapons and special abilities, similar to the trolls regeneration and enchanted items. but no actuall spells were used

The real comedy in these episodes is that Ainz had no idea Jircniv was there with the foreign diplomats. he just wanted to advertise on the biggest venue he could find, and randomly appeared as if he had read the empire like an open book haha

Ainz is using the weapons he got from Clementine and had Fluder put fire magic into them which was too powerful And Ainz was able to be injured during the battle because he disabled his passive skill that negates any attack below lvl 60

another episode another comment from me with Spoiler Free Lore Tidbits: Ainz is there to recruit adventurer's because 75% of of the ones that were in E-Rantel fled or retired early. Remember Ainz uses skeletons for menial labor (like tilling fields or mining stone/ores), he also uses skeletons as soldiers to protect the city and whenever a monster slaying quest comes up he sends out skeletons and death knights to butcher the creature. Regarding the Book of the Dead that Ainz gives Fluder: it's written in Japanese so Fluder can't read it and the monocle Ainz has is "one of a kind", it's an item from Yggdrasil that he cannot currently make another one of, so for all intents and purposes it is the only one that exists in the New World. Also Ainz has no idea what's in the book he just chose one at random, remember that most of his items are from when it was a video game and most video games don't let you read every single book, most of just an item name with a small description but since coming to the New World these books have been filled and can now ALL be read. While being told "wanna learn, then start translating" might sound pretty harsh you also should know that ALL of Ainz's books from Yggdrasil are all in Japanese (Kanji) so if Fluder wants to learn he'll have to learn Japanese at some point. The spell to make the offering to the Dark Fertility Goddess, the one that summoned the "baby goats", has a real cooldown of about 24 hours, he's feeding Osk fake info and trying to make himself seem weaker than he really is. If everyone thinks they have 10 years before he can do it again they may act rashly and give Ainz the advantage. Headhunter Rabbit is actually a male, he wears a maid outfit to make people less suspicious of him AND so that noone thinks they can just kick him between the legs, he's a trained assassin after all and can sense how strong other people are. Ainz was wearing his ring that prevents detection magic from being used against him was ineffective against Headhunter Rabbit's natural ability to sense strength. What Ainz uses against Go Gin is NOT magic, it is a natural racial skill that comes with being a high level undead, Negative Energy damage plus a Debuff. Ainz has not only been using purely his Racial Skills but he also negated his barrier that prevents damage (High Tier Physical Nullification) for this fight, when Go Gin hits him as he walks forward Ainz is actually taking damage from that it's just his HP pool is so massive the damage was barely registering. A Vassal State is a state or region directly under the control of another, with varying levels of autonomy depending on the terms of the agreement. In Overlord the Baharuth Empire, Jircniv, askes to become subservient to the Sorcerer Kingdom, Ainz.

Unfortunately, Go Gin's complete background story and the conversation with his trainer were omitted and shortened, which takes away a lot of personality, but was still a good fight, but it could have been longer. Fun fact: the "Silver Thread Bird" adventurers simply leave the country and never show up again

Hello friend, thanks for continuing to react. Well friend, in this chapter we have another time jump into the past that explains how Ainz gave his coup against the conspiracy of the Emperor and the Theocracy in the Colosseum. And the answer was... Pure and utter coincidence. Luck is definitely the greatest attribute of Ainz's character, a luck that never allows him to achieve his real goals, but for his "Overlord of Death" character it works like a charm. Going to the Colosseum wasn't even his idea, but Pluto's, the Guild Master. Ainz didn't even think about meeting with Jirvich because he's scared that someone would find out how little he knows about ceremonies or politics. And the only thing he's interested in is recruiting adventurers for the new Guild he's planning to build. This trip was quite fun for him, because Pluto constantly told him what he thought directly, even if it was against his ideas, something that NPCs would never do, because they accept anything Ainz says as the absolute truth, even if it's stupid. When he is arranging the fight with the Martial Lord (That's how they put him in the novel, I don't understand why the Anime decided to subtitle him as King), Ainz has to meet with Fludder and he tells him that the Emperor already discovered his betrayal, because he has been gradually reducing his authority, moving him away from politics. Ainz thought of taking Fludder to NAzarick at once, but he decided to leave him there for now because he is worried that he will give Jirvich trouble if his best mage suddenly disappears. (That's right, the emperor loses his hair trying to conspire against Ainz, but not only is he not planning anything against the empire, he's even worried about upsetting them, it's hilarious). Then Ainz gives Fludder that book, which is useless because it's simple fiction and he only gave it to him to buy time, to later ask him to enchant Clementine's two stilettos to use them in the Colosseum. The runes are the letters of the ancient Scandinavians, but it is very popular to see them in video games. However, in that world they should not exist and so Ainz suspects that the dwarves might have been influenced by players when he sees the sword. Osk, the match fixer, was a man fascinated with strength who had no talent as a warrior, so he decided to train and produce the strongest fighter. Ten years ago, Osk met Go Gin at the Empire's border for the first time and sponsored him to become the Martial Lord and champion of the Imperial Arena. He is also somewhat perverted, or at least has a fetish for muscular people, regardless of his gender, although he has said that he would prefer Gagaran from Blue Rose as his lover. Osk does not like magic, and has a bitter memory of magic casters using their magic to easily win against a warrior in battle during one of the Grand Arena matches. That is why he asks Ainz not to use any of his spells as a condition to arrange the match, although his natural Undead abilities are allowed. The rabbit maid is actually male, only she dresses up that way so that Osk's guests won't be on their guard. Osk uses him as a bodyguard but also because he is attracted to her hands. Headhunter Rabbit was a mercenary hailing from a nation east of the Karsanas City-State Alliance, famous as a warrior and assassin. Martial Lord is a title given to the most powerful warrior in the Great Arena of the Baharuth Empire. Obviously, the title is awarded to the next consecutive warrior to defeat the previous holder of the mantle. The current one, named Go Gin, is a War Troll who all his life longed for a worthy enemy and strove to push himself beyond his limits. He agreed to join Osk on the promise that one day he would meet such an opponent. During the fight, Ainz did not break the rules at any time. Enchanted weapons were allowed and when he took the life energy from him, Ainz was using a Skill of his species not a Spell. Also, it was pretty capped and removed a lot of level 100 player abilities, because he wouldn't even have taken damage otherwise. During a moment in the battle, Ainz remembers Touch Me, who was the most powerful player in Ainz Own Goal and whom he could never beat in a PVP match. Throughout the fight, Ainz heard Jirvich yelling to cheer on the Martial Lord, but he figured that Jirvich was a fan of Go Gin, though he was quite irritated that he never "cheered" for Ainz himself. After the battle, all of Jirvich's hopes are destroyed, because the only weakness a lich wizard has, blunt attacks, seems to be of no use against Ainz. That's why he pleads for the Empire to be a Vassal State. The problem is that Ainz doesn't even know what a "Vassal State" is. So Ainz plans to leave all the details to Albedo and then escape as soon as possible to a faraway place so that no one asks his opinion. Since Ainz initially rejects the vassalage, Jircich fears that he is planning something terrible for the empire and therefore decides to "force" Ainz to accept it, announcing the submission of his empire to the four winds and presenting all official documents. A few days later, Jirvich hears the news that the Adamantid adventurers of the Empire have moved to another country after learning of the vassalage to the Sorcerous Kingdom. Well friend, I think that would be all. I can give you a little spoiler and tell you that the Emperor will have a better life from now on as he has become a servant of nazarick and he will stop losing his hair. ¡See ya!

The "Magic" which Ainz used isnt magic the fire was the skill inside the weapon meaning that the weapon "used" the Magic which is allowed and Aura of Despair is a toggleable skill of the Overlord Class so its literally just a racial Ability which doesnt use Magic Points aka Mana/MP

Summery to your magic question: You could divide up the power system into multiple different sources: Raw fighting Power. Casting Magic. Martial Arts (Mainly Physical Abilities - These didn't exist in Yggdrassil) Skills (Innate abilities, usually inherited by classes or races). Weapon Arts (Magic infused within Equipments). The magic you've seen were a mix between weapon arts and Skills. - Fire explosions from Clementines Daggers. (Weapon Arts) - Physical Damage Negation -> Skill - Aura of Despair -> Racial Skill

Another case of Ains playing checkers (goes to the Empire to recruit adventurers) and bumps into poor Jircniv spoiling the Slane Theocracy meeting which Jircniv reads as Ains playing a 4D chess move to counter Jircniv's plans of a secret alliance agains Ains. No, that was an after credit scene snuck in where poor Demiurge thinks he's being outmatched by Ains in his world domination plan.

I always love the reactions of the inhabitants of the New World to even the simple Yggdrasil item. Yggdrasil Players: "Wow. What a crappy item you got there?" "I thougt it would be fun to use, but yes. Mostly it isn't good for anything." New World inhabitant: "By alle the gods, what a fantastic item this is! It must've come straight from the gods themself!"

I find it funny that the emperors aid called Ainz out for not having a plan and the emperor just shut him down like 'don't be ridiculous' when in actuality Ainz doesn't know what a vassal state even is let along how to plan this

Something I think you misunderstood (much like the emperor) is that Ainz showed up completely by coincidence... He was only there to promote the Sorcerer Kingdom adventurer plan... He had no clue what Emperor Jircniv was planning behind his back... That's the joke... That was the point of most of the episode... - Did you notice how confused Ainz was when the Emperor was rooting against him? > Then he was further confused when the Emperor suddenly submitted his Empire to be ruled by the Sorcerer Kingdom... Ainz really thought he was just bumped into a friend while he was doing his own thing... Think back to the carriage ride...

Umm it's like in RPG game where the weapons have elements, like those 3 Daggers/Stilettos he got from Clementine. She once used it and stabbed Momon's eyes then activated it's skill (Lightning & Fire Explosion) while she was normal Human Race with Warrior class. Ainz & NPCs are basically from the Game, where there are included Passive Skill and Active skill from Game aspects. The output Damage will very varies, like let's say pure Physical Damage or Magical Damage.

Those skills is like passive to Ainz race he just decide to turn it off, it's like fighting without an arm or leg

That line about only being able to use that magic spell once every decade is a lie to get people to be calmer about his abilities.

Ainz agreed to not use magic, however, he did not say anything about equipment and using skills. Basically he said he wouldn't *cast* any magic, but activating and using skills or items wasn't something he prohibited.

The "not using magic" is better thought of as "not casting magic". Ainz isn't using any spells. They are either inherent abilities of a top-tier undead (just like snake has venom when it bites), or weapons with magic built in. The troll's regeneration is also an inherent ability.

Ainz doesn't even know what a vassal state is, that's why he didn't want to make any decision and relay that to Demiurge and Albedo. Jircniv however thinks he's a mega mastermind countering all his plans... while Ainz doesn't even know who was visiting Jircniv, nor did he care!

Basically aura of despair is as the name suggests an aura. If there was some fire monster it would likely have some fire aura that does burn damage to those nearby. Ainz normally keeps his aura de-active because of strength difference and the fact if it is fully turned on it casts insta death on things getting too close. to most high lvls it wouldnt matter cause auras arent that busted and they have immunities to low lvl insta death. Cocytus also has an aura that does frost dmg he turns it on and back off when he fights the lizardmen himself. just a brief second of it on killed all the weaker lizardmen warrior leaving only the chiefs. But a lvl 100 passive killing randoms under lvl 10 instantly isnt exactly super strong. Basically calling Ainz using a racial passive using magic would be like calling a trolls regen magic. Also go gin himself uses magically enchanted items also. enchanted/magic items are the basics for any decent gear. pretty much the only people in the show that dont use magic items are the common re-estize soldiers as they are just conscripted farmers given a cheap spear.

Its like how a troll regenerates quickly, its a passive ability that is just there because of its race. And I mean, you can't turn that off can you? Edit: the 2nd one "Aura of Despair" I think is a class specific ability but nonetheless is not magic since its an ability like an assassin having an ability called "backstab" that when hit you get an automatic critical hit.

its a passive skill and it comes from his character build/race and it does not use magic power or MP and it doesn't need casting but instead its more of an on or off option, and the sword can "store" magic on it so hes not using magic but the sword did because he just activated the swords ability

Ainz was also weakening his resistances so that the Warrior-king would be able to touch him... He reased it at the end...

Ains never broke his word. He is using Skills and Weapon Abilities, not Magic. Just like Gazef and Unglaus' Martial Arts skills based on their class. For this world, Magic is outrightly casting a spell or using Scrolls.

Ainz lied he can use i think 5(or 7?) super teir spells per day he lied so to lwoer his threat rating in there eyes if the Spell use to summons the 'Goats' was restricted. Ainz has a few super teir spells too : Fallen down, Goat summons, Creation(use to freeze lizardman lake) and Wish and likely a few other not used yet. Technically the energy drain touch a natural ability of undead, weakens the living on touch, like how breathing and sweating is to us.

Vassal state basically means you are a subservient nation to another power. Basically giving up their own governing body to another power. The vassal state might still have a government but they wouldn’t really be in control of anything. Though it would depend on who owns them.

Wartrolls have a lot of levels in their race so they have race abilities and his armor boosts endurance and other stuff i don't remember... Ainz also has race abilities . like the aura he uses.. lvl1 is fear .. it goes up to lvl5 instant death .. he didn't even use his damage nullification skill untill the very end /edit fun fact .. I checked and after this episode aired google trends for vassal state went up a LOT ^^ .. a vassal state is subordinate to some other state .. usualy that means they have only limited control over government, military, laws and foreign affairs and must abide by the rules of their sovereign

I think its a Dnd thing but I don't play DnD so will use own example to explain difference between magic and abilities. Its more innate ability that races and species have. An example is a dragon breathing fire might be magical to a human but is ability all dragons can use. For Ains as undead maybe lich thing its closer to a snake with poison except he can control when he wants to use poison or not.

i dont read light novel but i played lots of rpgs from my stand point, ainz indeed not using his magic from what i see, ainz is using his race / class skills , active or passive skills he has (equivalent to troll's regeneration and defense buffs) those swords, from the looks of it, are augmented with elemental charges/attacks (note that he said 'activate')

From the very first episodes of S1 , you've seen non mage fighters like Gazeff always use a skills or two when fighting , be it from what they've learned themselves , their traits , or skills embedded in their weapons and items . Or even folks like the Lizards , and their hero with the Ice weapon

im not a novel reader but this is how i understand the magic rule: passive abilitys like ainzs touch or the trolls healing are considered "passive skills" martial arts and skills that do not consume mana are just plain "skills" everything else that costs mana (or maybe hp?) would be considered "magic" just my interpretation as an rpg player, could be completly wrong

Ainz counts using magic as anything that would require MP; If it doesn't require MP, its a skill. So all his resistances, little effects that occur with items, etc. Aren't magic. Even when you see weapons blast fire and stuff, you know the world also differentiates that, since those are Clementine's weapons from Season 1, and she was absolutely not a spellcaster

Ainz can infuse people with negative energy by touching them. Its a passive skill that he normally keeps turned off, like his despair aura. Its still a skill though and skills were allowed in this fight.

They're using skills not magic, skills are abilities they both have that are inherent based on their racecs/classes. his Draining touch ability is just like the trolls regeneration something he benefits from but doesn't use mana and cannot be learned like magic. Some off Ainz's skills include, immunity to instant death, resistance/weakness to different elements, ability to have a fear aura (aura of despair), immunity to low level magic weapons, etc. Ainz setup to show up here for the fight and promote his new guild idea, he had NO IDEA Jirniv would be there let alone meeting with Slane Theocracy representatives. Jircniv thought he was threatening them with his power during the meeting, but it was a sheer coincident they both happened to be there at the same time. The Vassal state is the idea is he's submitting to Ainz and joining his Empire to Ainz's with Ainz as King over them all. He's kept as 'emporer' to rule his area Under Ainz. So if Ainz wants any laws changed, Jirniv must obey him since Ainz is his ruler but otherwise he's just to rule and manage the area FOR Ainz.

Aye, gotta seperate Magic Spells from Skills. A fighter, like in this world, is specialized with Skills, while a magic caster like Ainz is hard focused into Spells

Headhunter Rabbit, in spite of the dress, is actually a man. IIRC he uses dresses to conceal himself as an assassin and because he fears an opponent might kick him in the crotch, but probably also because he enjoys it. He is paid much more than anyone else on the security team and one of his tasks is to assess the danger someone might represent. His hands are badly wounded because of his training, and healing magic reverses body parts to a previous state, undoing any training (that's why Climb didn't drink the potion he was given back in season 2 and instead have it to the boy who had ben beaten up by the thugs Sebas awesomely slapped away).

I think he is forbidden from using Mana. And the things he does is from magic items or skills that doesn't consume mana. maybe racial abilities

Basically what Ainz used in the battle is his racial ability those things are natural to their races like porcupines having coats of sharp spines and quills. The war troll also has a racial ability of super fast healing but it barely mattered with Ainz being his opponent.

In this world things like auras and passives aren't considered magic, more like traits or characteristics.

When Go-Gin defeated his strongest opponent. So hearing Go-Gin say those words once again after a whole decade, it made Osk really sentimental since he knew what was gonna happen to his worrier and good friend. Edit #1 10 years ago a powerful monster appear on the Imperial Frontier amd there was a rumor that the monster did not kill those who cast there weapons aside. This rumor peak Osk curiosity (at the time Osk wanted to fight in the arena but his body would not allow him to, so he wanted to find a fighter that would represent him) and when he heard that Flutter (white beard mage) would be send to exterminate the monster, Osk rush there. Once Osk got to the monster he was paralyzed in fear but when the monster glance at Osk and then look away, he realized that the rumors whare true. He asks a question "Why are you doing here?" The monster reply "Training to get stronger". This response is what made Osk take this monster in and give him everything he needed to become the Warrior King of the arena. This gave Go-Gin training and a sense of achievement of becoming strong. And Osk gain someone to representative him on the arena (when Go-Gin was fighting in the arena Osk sow himself fighting) making his dream come true.

He can't cast offensive magic during the combat since he is a wizard(it would be one hit kill), aura effect is either buff or debuff. Enemy is also using magic armor.

12:05 - Technically that was magic enchanted into the item, but Ainz wasn't casting it. High level people are all going to have magical items and enchanted equipment, so this much is ok. Ainz is even using weak stuff to ensure it isn't over powered.... or at least trying to. There is also Martial Arts, which is sort of like a Warrior's Magic. It uses "Focus" instead of mana. Last but not least there are also skills. Racial classes and Job classes sometimes have skills. While technically these come from the same place as magic, it isn't a specific spell you cast. Trolls have their regeneration and they can't even turn it off, so Skills are ok to use.

The conditions was that he can't use magic, as in casting spells that uses mana. He can still use enchanted weapons and weapons that have spells stored within them. However, Ainz putting a tier 3 spell within the dagger would have been to powerful, so instead he had Fluder add it. Overlords have the racial skill called "Despair Aura" and since it is a skill it doesn't use magic. Technically Despair Aura is a passive skill, meaning he can turn it on for as long as he wants. 1. fear 2. Panic 3. confusion 4. insanity 5. Instant Death

His aura of despair and his negative energy is a skill. Much like flow acceleration is a martial arts skill. I cant remember if the skills are undead skills or if they are skills for those who are negative attributed. By the way negative or positive means if they are good or evil, but can slso be neutral from a certain level of either. Magical equipment are allowed, as they dont come from the caster or use their mana. So, its not that magic itself isnt allowed, just spells done by a caster.

What Ainz is using are his racial abilities the innate abilities of an Overlord. Similar to how Trolls like Go Gin have enhanced healing abilities among other things, all demi-humans and heteromorphic races have various racial abilities. For instance Ainz has racial resistances to slashing, piercing, ice, and other forms of damage; and racial weaknesses to bludgeoning, fire, and holy damage. In addition to things such as negative energy touch which allows him to impart a small amount of damage and a debuff on things he touches or physically attacks, the debufff weakens the opponents physical abilities and if the weakening reduces stats to 0 they'll die. He also has his Aura of Despair which is a racial ability with multiple levels that have increasingly more powerful effects causing fear, panic, confusion, insanity, or death he used the first level which can cause fear on Go Gin. He also has various level based abilities such as damage nullification that literally makes it so anything below level 60 can't hurt him unless he deactivates it which he did for the fight but turned it on at Go Gin's request.

The abilities ainz uses here are not magic but racial abilities i believe, of course they kind of are magic due to a skeletons nature as an inherently magical being. However they are not cheating any more than the warrior kings natural physical strength and size are cheating! hope this helps

For us dragons are magical beasts but in fantasy they are natural part of the world. skeletons and more advanced species of them are natural there too. Ainz can't cast spells during the fight but he can use properties of items, class features and his racial abilities. It's like banning advanced technology in duel but one of commbatants is robot (technology). Robot can fight and use his robot-strength but can't use gun for example. I saw no inappropriate thing during duel. I think martial arts (maneuvers) looks similar to spells in this world. So natives have posible advantageous way to compete with Ainz.

a vassal state is a state that forfeited parts of their autonomy and political freedoms, either willingly or under pressure, usually in exchange for peace and or protection, to another country/empire note that they are not officially part of that empire and don't get treated like it, they usually don't have the freedoms to make foreign policy decisions without the watchful eyes of their overseers, and are expected to pay tribute and give military assistance on demand. its similar in a way to modern puppet states except that it was officially known and governments didn't try to hide that fact as much.
