Love that 'can do' attitude mate. So many people are like your not allowed to camp there, you've no permission blah blah blah. The vast majority of land owners will tolerate wild camping so long as you are sensible, discreet and are careful to leave no trace. I've being doing it for over 20 years now and I've never once had any trouble. Great vid for beginners too btw.

One Life Overland one thing that I do that’s helped is carrying a bag and picking up litter. I got busted by a land owner I said what I was doing and one upping the leave no trace because I’m leaving it better. I got an enjoy your camp and he left.

The late Peter Hutchinson, who founded Mountain Equipment in a cow shed on the hill behind my house, supplied his sleeping bags in large stuff sacks. He wasn’t keen on what he called stuff sack Olympics, where you have to get your sleeping bag into a ridiculously small stuff sack. He said put it in a bigger one, it’s easier, and it’ll squash further when it’s in your pack.

Hi Rich, I used to have a '58 ptn poncho when I was an adult instructor with the Somerset Army Cadets and always looked for a low tree so I could put a bungee over it then use the draw cord on the poncho hood to hold the middle up then peg around the side and use other bungees! Good luck with your next session of " pest control"😉

You know that you can make cracking enclosed shelters (pyramid style) from a 3x3m tarp, and even a small enclosed tent with a DPM basha? That's why I prefer the basha/tarp, there are endless configs and you can do enclosed configs for night or if it's crappy weather, and all kind of other configs for living space either in the day, or at night if you have a bivvy bag. Also there are lightweight basha poles on the market for these new-fangled luxury DPM bashas.

If it all goes tits up and you get wet you can change have a brew and re do the set up till it works. Once your happy you can do it anywhere you pick out. Don’t over thinking it and put yourself off and remember all you are doing is staying warm, dry and feeding yourself.

I know this and a couple of other of your uploads are titled as ''for beginners'' but I find them great and informative, you know your stuff mate, combining essential principles of bushcraft, stealth camping, military fieldcraft and backpacking. I used to get paid to stealth camp lol as well as stealth vehicle camping, did swb and lwb Defenders with a 9x9 tent on the back, and then forward control (we used to call them 1 tonne) lannies with the 9x9 on the side door. So I like your channel covering the range from basha camping to camping in your lanny. I have a British Army DPM basha too, people all over rate these highly, German and Austrian bushcrafters especially so. As a more compact and smaller shelter option which I carry even when I just go out on my mountain bike for a couple of hours, I really rate the Dutch Army poncho, because (a) it's DPM (b) Dutch blokes are big so the poncho is too, it's 1.6m wide by 2.20m long, not as big as a new-style British Army basha which I have too, I take that in winter or when I want to stay in a luxury palace basha, but bigger than the 58 pattern poncho (c) it rains a hell of a lot in the Netherlands so it is waterproof and finally (d) it folds into a pocket about 1ft / 30cm square by less than an inch / 2cm thick so very compact and you can slide it into all kinds of places without noticing, like in an old S10 respirator case together with a brew kit and food. Surplus Dutch ponchos are around £20 on ebay. Tbh I have an aversion to all 58 pattern kit, prob because I had to use it back in the day lol. So Dutch Army 1l water bottle and canteen cup (stainless steel and bombproof) for me rather than fat 58 bottle and alu mess tins, and British DPM or Belgian jigsaw camo respirator cases instead of those horrible canvas pouches which absorb water and shrink. Instead of a hexi cooker I bought one of those small versions of basically a bush box/hobo cooker, mine is a Lixada knockoff (stainless steel though not alu) which cost me £8 but it's better than a Lixada cos it folds (so it isn't fiddly to put together, doesn't fall apart) but instead of a pin to hold it in place it clips into place, so I don't have to worry about losing the pin. It works a treat with a Trangia in it, as well as solid fuel tabs - I prefer the individually wrapped Zip firelighters (from Tesco) to Hexi or Esbit which is pricey - or twigs/sticks. I make my own cheapo rat packs, with Lidl oat sachets, Polish pate packed in small foil packs, high cal grain biscuits wrapped in packs of 4 (not so cheap), Poundland single Cadbury's hot chocolate sachets, and buy nescafe and sugar sticks online (drink coffee black). For mains I get stuff like small tins of beef in gravy from Poundland, tins of Pek ham or Tulip bacon grill, and microwave pouches of rice which I just warm up in the pouch in my canteen cup with water which I then use for a brew and/or washing, or even cheap pasta pouches which need a couple of minutes cooking but they're tastier and have more calories than instant noodles, but I have ultra cheap instant noodles on me too for a quick warming snack between meals. Poundland also sell stuff like cereal bars and multipacks of small nut/dried fruit pouches. So yeah my rat packs aren't the lightest but they're around the £3/4 mark and all with at least 2500 cal. They also fulfill my nostalgia for the old British Army rat packs. Shame I can't get mini tins of steak & kidney pud or chicken curry lol. Like you I go for the brew-kit based survival kit containing all essentials, which you can actually use on a regular basis and take out even for a few hours i.e. day camping, but add in a disposable mylar blanket and you know you could survive a night out in the woods or wherever with it if push came to shove. The whole lot in an S10 respirator case, plus a medium (legal carry) Victorinox would set you back about £75 if you shopped around. From there you can easily just add sleeping bag, mat and cheapo camo tarp as a groundsheet and if you're feeling decadent a bivvy bag and you can have a full stealth/wild camping cum bushcraft setup for as little as £150 quid, but with some solid reliable tried and tested items which can last years or decades.

A fantastic hour I just spent watching this! Thanks for very clearly explaining the "why" behind the "what" in all aspects of your camp! Not sure if it was irony or just a joke that the pest control was for vegans... either way - GREAT to spend some time outdoors with you! :-)
