Many many years ago we took the Tamil Nadu Express from Madras to delhi. It took 36 hours! Somehow you just settle in to life on the train and the time passes as you watch the world go by, happy days! It is so refreshing when there is so much trouble in the world to see how kind and generous the people of Turkey invariably are. Peace & Love
I would have loved to have seen, what was usually on the menu - whole meal wise, usually. And then had your review of the food options! Anyway an interesting experience for you both...
I did it in Australia in the 80's. I went Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth, took 2 nights from Adelaide to Perth and we were in a 2 berth cabin. The carriage corridors went like s's. It was a great experience.
Ankara train station is a very familiar place for me. We went to Sivas from Ankara during the summer months throughout my childhood. train windows could be opened at that time. We would stick our heads out and watch the mountains and end the train journey with a black sooty face. I still remember the swaying feeling that remained for the next day.
At the end of a tremendously long journey Chris says to Marianne as they depart the train watch your step my sweetness. This says it all about this amazing couple. Wonderful video thank you!
Yeah... Good infrastructure by borrowed funds to the tune of $450 B. And no way to pay back. I am a Canadian who lived 2 yrs in Turkey, and never seen such fanatic and backwards people. Have fun and get out as soon as you can.
@@naderangadji7661 I'm very sorry for your thoughts, I'm Turkish and we know how to show the necessary respect and love to our guests, but you will reap what you sow, it seems you couldn't plant good things, but the results weren't very pleasing to the backward people in your word.....
Really interesting video, such a long journey to do with barely any time in between. Bet it is stunning in winter. Think I look the look of Mick and Trudies high speed train better tho 🤣🚃🛤️. Wish there were more trains in Turkey, would be a great way to get around and see the countryside and I am rather a fan of trains. Looking forward to more of your adventures in beautiful Turkey 🇹🇷 🚘
Yeah, even if Turkey looks like a small country on world map it is actually second largest country in Europe after Russia. And that journey would be really magical during winters especially if the train was faster!! Luckily there is already Ankara-Kars high speed rail project which will be finished in few years.
@al alfin True, but Doğu Express is not about the speed but kind of experience. Most of the time people take that route to go to Kars and return in a weekend for holiday. Of course fast trains are available between big cities for more than a decade.
Wowzer!! Well done👏 So interesting to follow. Happy you got the new drone. Always lovely to see the kindness of the Turkish people (but who wouldnt be drawn to you😊)
I ve passed many times on this route since 2009, it is the first time I see it so dry, less water, less rain. BTW, you shoul take it in winter, which is the real time with perfect landscapes
I adore long train journeys we’ve seem a good deal of the world from a train carriage - highlights…Trans Siberian ( with multiple stops), the Dogu Express (Turkey), from Budapest to Athens and a fair whack of Vietnam…Our compartment on the Dogu was bigger and had a sink, fridge and a/c looks like they’ve changed.
It’s amazing what you do!! You inspire me to see more of the awesome scenery, vistas, rivers, trees, and wonderful sites that have gone unseen to this point in my life. BUT, no more!!! It’s time to go adventuring. Thank you for showing me the possibilities.
I did the same thing one time Marianne, I was in the Navy and forgot I was in the top bunk. I had to get up during the night and boom, down I went and hitting my head on the wall on the way down. My mom, brother and I use to take the train during the Summer when we were small kids to my mom's parent's in Oklahoma, we left from California. We didn't have a cabin, we were in the lounge chairs, but, usually no one was next to us at night and we could sprawl out onto the next one and lay down for the night. Your train ride reminded me of Chesca's book club read, Around the World in 80 Trains. Yeah, you got the drone and what a nice experience you had picking it up, not like here lately with all the "Black Friday" Christmas sales going on. Looking forward to seeing you back on the road in your wonderful little Trudy. Take care mates!
If you hadnt broken your drone, this video would never have been. It is often the unplanned journeys that turn out to be the best. A train journey ticked off the unknown bucket list has to be a bonus. I’d imagine it to be epic in the winter.
Thanks Chrris and Marrianne for all your beautiful videos of all the places you went to. Yes, Turkey is really a beautiful country. Good luck and stay safe in your next journey. God bless. From Philippines.💯💥❤❤👍👍👍
You are two of the most enthusiastic people I have EVER had the privilege to watch (and hopefully one day meet). You see the positive in simply everything, (even 60 hours on a train but I totally get it) Your glass is always not just half full, but overflowing! My wife and I have the same outlook on life, people and travel as you do! Life is for living and you certainly do that! As I say we hope to meet you both one day, because we have so much in common - travel, photography, diving, underwater photography, Sharks ( I photograph sharks! - great T Shirt Chris - No finning ) Drones, Van life etc etc Keep up the great work! We feel like we are travelling with you. Stay safe you crazy cats and avoid those crazy roads in Georgia! Richard & Julia
Wondeful journey. More scenic in the winter though. I have travelled a lot in my beautiful country but never been to Kars. Now I'm travelling with you. Hope to experience it personally soon. Thank you for being so kind to the country and to the people.
A couple of years ago took the overnight train from Bangkok to Surat Thani (going to Koh Samui). About an hour into the journey, they came round to set up the beds - so had to go to bed at 8pm - as seats were now beds! Took about 12 hours. We had the squat toilets, with the added attraction you could see the track down the loo. If I was honest, since then we fly everywhere - not green, but a lot quicker.
@@TREADtheglobe in the next year or so should have a high speed (or at least) faster train all the way down to Surat Thani. And Hua Lamphong (the beautiful Bangkok station) will close soon, to be replaced by Bang Sue station- apparently biggest station in South East Asia outside of China.
I did my military service in Kars.the trip took 25 hours on the way to the mission After 2 hours delayed journey I reached Kars at night.I stayed at the house of a college student I met on the train train ride took so long that i got depressed:)
I am so loving your videos and learning a lot. I am originally from Eastern Turkey but haven’t seen it at all. We are planning to go to Mardin and Urfa soon and after watching your amazing and enjoyable experiences in those places I now cannot wait. Very informative stuff and enjoyable to watch. Thank you so much.
Hi Chris, you know it's going to be a long trip of 50 hours and it's best to add another couple of hours, they're not high speed trains. Your best bet would have been to stay in a motel for one night and tear down the next day. And would have plenty of time to see Ankara ... Hittite Museum, Atatürk's Mausoleum, etc.
Today I traveled between Kayseri and Malatya on that train. because I am a student and it was the cheapest way of transportation :( It took 7 hours and it was a bit difficult. But Ankara-Kars… 60 hours…. god 😳👏🏽
The DİKKAT...! sign at 3:53 says that u are only allowed to use the electronic socket for charging your phone or using a Shaving Machine because if u use something else the whole train wagon can run out of electricity
Crazy journey! A great adventure but goodness you tire us out just watching! Be safe out there! Thank you for including us in your adventures. We so need it! 🤙
Our pleasure, it is so great to know you are with us and we love having you on each and every adventure we do and each experience is better knowing you are both with us xx Love Marianne and Chris xx
WOW!! Fab Video guys👌. It Certainly gave you a break from driving, but a Very Long journey there & Back! The longest journey I took on a train was from Paris to Santander.(18 hours). I thought I would be clever & take a ferry back, from Santander to Plymouth (24 hours), but that was years ago!! Thanks So Much for taking me along ☘👍.
Strewth long way for retail therapy. We are in EDD in your beloved Shropshire for a few days. Planning stopover in the 'UD' Pub one night this week. Woo Hoo!
I really love watching your video on your RU-vid channel. I like your nature, having fun and giving information about the places you visit. thanks a lot and have a good trip.
You guys, this was yet another great video. No matter what the video is about, I watch your videos because WHO YOU ARE! JUST TWO GREAT, LOVELY ANF FULL OF FUN PEOPLE ♥️♥️🇹🇷 I LOVE YOU GUYS. GREAT JOB! 👍👍 THE GEOLOGIST!
60 hours on a scenic train raid to buy a drone - mad? Absolutly not! It's inginious, espesially when done in maximum possible comfort. We appaud you. And we would absolutly have done the same thing 🤣Btw, love the drone shots off the train with the new drone.
60 hrs .... NUTS! .... It reminded me a BBC TV show Simon Reeve's Tropic of Cancer. He was traveling on the countries which were on tropic of cancer. He mostly was using train journeys days of days. Yeah I remembered one more, Michael Portillo's Great American Railroad Journey. And one more Trans - Siberia train journey 9.000km one week Russian Train Journey whooo hooooo :) Have nice day. We Turks love both of u youth.
Nice journey!! I've taken the Cukurova Ekspresi between Ankara-Adana many times back in 2005-6, always wanted to do the Dogu Ekspresi as well. By the way, the 'peat' at 13:13 are 'tezek', sun-dried cow pats for heating!
Great video! There was a bullet train project few years ago, but I don't know what happened. They initiated the project but then an accident happened with many casualties because of a failure in the rail system and I never heard about it again.
Wow what an amazing train ride❤ I would love to go on a train trip like this❤🩹 So beautiful How often does the train stop? Is there a food train car? I hope you both enjoyed your beautiful train trip. I bet you miss Trudy & she misses you .🥰🥰🥰🥰
If you're happy, we're happy too. We must welcome you in the best way possible. This is our tradition. We loved you. God bless you. Best Regards 🙏✌🧿🥰🍺🐞
