I took this Toy Barbie RC Car and made it way better! All the stuff I used is below. It's not perfect, but so much better than stock, and much easier to control! Upgrading Kids Toy Cars is really good fun, you can do this to most Toy RC Cars, you just need to work out the best way to do it.

Excellent marketing haha... Do you happen to have spent much time on the insides of the 28scale WL Toys? I just got the truck and its running mega hot and sticky... sanded the diffs and greased its a little better but the opinion of someone like yourself would be in invaluable! Thanks in advance

Got my nephews little boat he got for Christmas and put a brushless system in it, he loves it, i can tell you the proportional throttle part doesn't matter at all for him, its flat out or nothing anyway 🤣

Great job on improving the RC! Thanks for taking the time to do this! It’s gratifying being able to take a toy RC and giving it a dose of hobby grade. I like to do that too as some of the toy RC have decent bodies although often they are not 1/10 scale. I find Barbie has the best bodies closest to 1/10 so I’ve made a habit to collect Barbie cars and use the shells for Future RC projects. The bonus is you can put an action figure for a little more scale look. Haven’t done this in a while but the nicest one was a white Ferrari 308 that I put on a custom onroad chassis I made from soldering square brass tubes together and made it so the wheelbase could change via sliding the brass tubes. That was before I had hobby grade RC. Now you can stretch the chassis.

Oh the memories my daughter had a huge Barbie Mini Cooper S from toys R us. Had the same conversation but it ended up a full 4x4 drift Mini! Was a proper beast!

Cool dad project! The resistor on the motor is probably there for back EMF dissipation (so no current goes back from the motor to the ESC when its free-spinning). Probably much higher resistance than the internal resistance of the motor, why it doesn't do much difference to remove it✌

@@TomleyRC Have you ever heard of an rc company called SILVERLIT? ive owned 3 cars from them so far and the ones i have are basically toys but on another level. like for example the Subaru WRX looked like a plastic model toy car but had proportional steering and throttle, working headlights, break lights, indicators and reverse lights and a detailed engine bay. If you can find them in the UK then you should absolutely have look at them and possibly modify them 👍

Give your daughter a challenge she can work at for years to come, put in that brushless motor, and offer her a challenge of skill with the controller. Mastering complexity at a young age will help her in the decades to come.

Reminds of when I use to race 30 some years ago. We found a bunch of Barbi"s in a box of an old barn. Brought them to the track set them out on the railing and we became the Naked Barbi racing team.

Ive been looking for a suitable chassis to put under my daughters, exact same model. Reason is I want to let her use hobby grade 1:10 wheels and tires, I found the junk wheels on the barbie car to be appauling at actual speed lol, as you learned yourself

Yes, it’s a bit of an odd shape… longer than a normal 1/10 and narrower

@@TomleyRC how wide is it ? Maybe something 1:16th - 1:18th scale would work on a stretched chassis with some hex wideners or 3d printing custom arms & sourcing/fabricating driveshafts would work. Thinking maybe wltoys a979 drivetrain here might work as well, though with ofc a radio with adjustable epa so you can limit topspeed so it wont crack the body in a wreck. There are 1:10th scale wheels with a few mm offset as well that might make it just about right.

I have converted a few toys to decent spec. A cheat on the batteries are vape batts, or 10440 batts which are basically 3.7 AAs just alter the connections in stock box then.

I did this with a 1/5th scale hotrod from toys r us. A 3d printer is very handy to make brackets for holding the servo and making a motor plate.

I watched your Barbie jeep video a few weeks ago then took the Barbie Vette that only had forward and backwards, no steering. I used an old HPI nitro and converted it to electric. Still holds the two Barbies and has some very good speed.

In my quest to find the elusive Kyosho Blizzard I've gotten into Bruder RC conversations lol. Mainly because they make a decent model snow groomer to mod, but it's gotten me looking at my son's toys and thinking about modding them to RC or upgrading the RC toys he has 🤣

modding the Jayda F+F Supra AWD drift toy to inexpensive hobby grade was a breeze using older WLtoys electronics, the older receiver+ESC will handle 3S. much better with slightly higher voltage and being fully proportional.

That green "resistor" is actually an Inductor. It helps reduce the feedback from the rotor, there should also be a capacitor. Your ESC may not require the inductor, if its quality it has the circuit protection built in. The capacitor stays with the motor.

That’s so funny, my little for sister has the same one except it’s like a pink chrome she got from toys r us for $80 years ago. Added a 1/10 brushed system to it and tied in a servo to the steering wheel so it moves. Just sucks driving with the hard tires/no suspension unless it’s perfectly smooth.

You should put the body on a Tamiya RWD platform. If the wheelbase is wrong you could shorten it

Dad of the year right there. So what next... Barbie jeep ? When my son was about 6 I bought him a Cadillac Escalade. Cheap little 1:18. I then got some lino & detergent & proceeded to drift it on the lounge room floor.
