Overspray Removal: from clear coat only 

I was clear coating some brackets outdoors and it was windy. Later I found that the clear coat had blown around the outside of my garage and landed on my brand new white Dodge Caravan with 400 miles on odometer. 2/3 of the vehicle had a fine cured rough mist including headlights and taillights. I panicked. bought an expensive Groits buffer and it hardly touched it. I couldn’t find Rapid Remover so I tried Goof Off as someone recommended. Didn’t touch it. Then I got a fine cut clay bar and with a detailing spray as lube. Amazing- it took it all off including from the light lenses and the glass. This video was a lifesaver.

Thanks so much for this video. Attempted my own driveway rattle can paint repair that turned out to be a mess. After watching your video - I opted for the acetone removal method. Worked like a charm ! Removed both clear coat and paint over spray. Used microfiber cloth. Front fender and half of hood. After removal - everything was reset to factory finish... or at least to a used car paint finish.

Thanks for showing us multiple methods. I have an Acousticn Guitar that a previous owner painted a 3 leaf red clover on the body. Then the front of the guitar body was badly painted with Laquer. I used Laquer Thinner to remove the overspray on the bottom fretboard keys. I continued with it for the rest of the keys. It was a quick job. I also used Laquer Thinner on the pick guard. It worked as well. I started using it on small areas of the guitar body and it worked with a little damage. Your video suggested Rapid Remover. I have Goo Gone and that didn't work but it shinned up the pick guard a little. Your video also mentioned Acitone. That worked much better than Laquer Thinner on the guitar body. I tried a small area and will now clean the overspray that is underneath the guitar strings. Yea, the guitar was Laquered with strings on. Who knows maybe the laquer will give the guitar a majic sound. At least the strings won't rust for a while. :)

Thank you, I'm going through this right now trying to remove overspray from hood and door because quarter panel on truck got fixed. I have a orbital polisher but I just have #4 ultra finishing polish and took some overspray off but still rough. I'm thinking just get a cut compound.

Great video guys!! I used a spray can paint on my 11 year old car and the color did not match. It was horrible what I did to my car, I was getting ready to have the entire car painted by professionals when I came across your video. I tried so nail polish remover with good results, but had a quart of M.E.K. thinner out in the barn; that worked great. Cleaned all the spray paint off the car in under an hour.

Great! Just re did my whole carbon fiber hood, and got tons of overspray (first time) I got 3,000 grit and plenty of different compounds for my orbital machine. Practice makes perfect

I've got a friend that sprayed can clear coat on her hood after a waxing she did that she didn't like how it came out. 🙄 how would you go about removing that? I have Gyeon tar remover, could I try that in place of Rapid remover? Would Rapid remover be effective on a layer of can clear coat? Is this a job I should go straight to compounding? Thanks for help.

ACETONE, I bought some at home depot and it stripped the paint of everything it touched plus highly flammable, i didnt use on my car tho

Do you do this when it's completely dry? Or how long after spraying can I do it?

When you use an aerosol can and you spray paint a base coat, usually you also apply a clear coat which would also overspray. So can't think of many situations where only paint would land on unintended surface, I would think both base coat and clear coat would land. So how would we get rid of that?

Im gonna try that rapid remover before wet sanding and buffing the whole car we left mine covered at the body shop and over spray got up under the plastic and it sounds just as bad as that fender when you run your hand over certain areas SMH, gonna try to get it off and polish the top sections of the car

So what do you recommend for a carbon fiber hood with sun damage ? I wet sanded it and added clear coat already but the over spray is baaaaad. Still looks better than what it was but I need to know what polish and what compound to use to get the overspray off best for carbon.

What would you use for house paint as bought a car with little white paints spots all over. It’s dried on. I did concourse for 4 years but haven’t come across paint spots like this. Any advise ? Thanks

Can you answer my comment please. I since I have a quick question anyways. Recently painted my truck with a cheap spray gun from harbor freight I used dupli color paint shop paint I put 2 coats of clear on it with dupli color same cans as the quarts of base coat I wondering if I can redo it with over spray on the paint job can I just spray over the over spray with the same clear or do I have to wet sand it off with a 1000 grit?

Hello sir I am from India. Just yesterday I had some repaint work on my cars front bumper from a local body workshop. After the work entire body is having a roughness feeling on touch. Makes sound if you wipe the surface with cloth. Maybe the guy didn't cover the body properly and is certainly overspray of paint, primer. Your video tells me that the wax polishing method will fix my problem. Please let me know what exact compound or wax to be used for polishing.

Sos. Just bought a used car with cosmetics defaults on the paint. Aparently the previous car owner tried to fix the scratches on the car with cheap easy solution. He sprayed the scratches with spray paint. But it went wrong.. now it looks like an abstract painting on the car.. is there any tips to remove the stains?

I have overspray all around the car. On every single inch. It's very small dots of white paint. It won't come off with alcohol, not even with a DA polisher using a Velvet pad from Car Pro paired with Meguiar's M100. Any help is appreciated. I have to take it off from the paint, taillights, headlights, trim, everything. Could you recommend using lacquer thinner or acetone in this case?

Nice videoo, i think you just save my life, or my car life. I was painting my step bars of my truck, i took them off, i paint the with herculiner, they look realy nice, but, it was windy, and all that black overspray went right to my white 2009 ram. Do you think acetone will kill the clear of my truck? Is it safe to use on car paint? I tried to buff it but didnt help to much. Please, need your help. I also have to clean my wifes honda odyssey. Great video, and it kind've answered my question. I just sanded, primer, basecoat on my car. I let it sit for a few days, and i put clear coat on today. everything was pretty close to perfect except my two quarter panels. It looks like cliffs and cracks developed out of the clear coat. Would these methods work? I guess i oversprayed that area..

Not sure if I understood the grit using correctly for the wet sanding, can you tell me wich one you used ? Also I did a touch up on my front door and the clear coat is all blury, do you think this will help? thanks!

Which method would you use to remove overspray from matte plastic window trim? There are tiny white specs, which leads me to believe that I'm dealing with latex paint. I feel like using even a lighter grade clay bar would be too aggressive.

I painted my whole car and then cleared it all besides the roof because i had to fix something so about 45 min later i cleared my roof and pillars when i did that i oversprayed clear on my trunk and you can see it, will wet sanding take care of that?

Acetone--really? That stuff dissolves paint like crazy!

If it's a paint overspray, clay bar will clean it. Mine was really bad. Do not do what he's doing. Idk why he's doing this, but you need to lube the clay bar a lot. Doing what he's doing will scratch and dull your paint
