. A pleura is a serous membrane that folds back onto itself to form a two-layered membranous pleural sac around the lungs. These layers are called visceral and parietal pleura.
The visceral pleura is a delicate serous membrane that covers the surface of each lung (the lung parenchyma) and dips into the fissures between the lobes of the lungs.
The parietal pleura is the outer membrane that is attached to the inner surface of the thoracic cavity.
The space between the two layers of the pleura is called the pleural cavity.
Dr. Mobeen Syed explains that the chest cavity pulls the parietal pleura outwards. Parietal pleural, in turn, exerts pressure on the fluid in the pleural cavity. The result is that this fluid causes a suction effect on the visceral pleura. As mentioned above, the visceral pleura is tightly bound to the lung parenchyma. This pull on the visceral pleura causes the lungs to be pulled outwards as well.
Usually, the value of the pressure of fluid in the pleural cavity is -5 cm of water. If the outward forces have removed, the recoil forces will cause the lungs to collapse.
One-third of the recoil forces are due to the lung parenchyma (elastin and fibrin), two-thirds are due to the fluid in the alveoli.
The following topics have discussed:
* Pleural membrane
* Visceral pleura
* Parietal pleura
* Pleural cavity
* Normal pressure of fluid in the pleural cavity
* Outward forces of the lungs
* Recoil forces of the lungs ...

I think I just figured out what my problem is thank to this teaching. Question. No doctors have been able to help me. It's to the point my back hurts back area. I remember one day in general it felt like my lungs collapsed and doctors gave tons of inhalers ect. My body is straining and muscles hurt. This explains a lot. How would I explain this to doctor to have them test this?

@reshmahafeez8879

Pleural cavity is the space between the two pleural layers i.e. Parietal and Visceral pleura while pleural fluid is the fluid present in this cavity secreted by the Parietal pleura. This fluid helps in reducing the friction between the two pleural layers.
