I think every overwatch fan from 2016-now believes this. That a good overwatch movie would be insane and everyone would legit pay to watch it. Instead of the broken promises we have recently gotten.
The kiriko cinematic will hold the funniest place in my heart but the bastion one will still be the one I feel the saddest about because of what bastion has been through
Rewatching Mei's story really hits home just how tragic it actually is. She went into cryo sleep expecting to wake up later and do science with her friends but due to outside factors she had no control over all of her friends die - and without the signal she could be dead too. What's more she is stranded with the possibility of no one in the world knowing she is there and no chance of anyone coming to rescue her. This is a full on horror scenario.
I though the same, that has all the potential to be a movie, In fact, there have already been several films that have taken advantage of the plot of a person stranded in the middle of nowhere or in an unfavorable environment in which he has to escape. There have been numerous quite interesting films such as Cast Away, The Revenant, 28 Days Later, I Am Legend, etc. And Mei's story could be exploited to a greater potential like these stories, the same with stories like Bastion or Kiriko, although as always Blizzard wants to stay in the Teen classification as I doubt they will ever reach their full potential.
I think what really makes all these so good is how much you can relate to all the characters. Bastion struggles with robo-PTSD, Hanzo is trying to move past the solitude of not having a brother, Winston (although he's a big ape) doesn't just use his strength--he uses his head too! This combined with the characters using their in-game abilities is impressive and such a neat detail! I pray that Blizzard returns to this former glory, and with Microsoft buying Activision-Blizzard, we just might get that. But we never know, since Blizzard's been a greedy for a while now, regardless I still like to hope I'll see my once favorite company make the ultimate 180!
What I hate the most, is how this is reigniting the passion and love I had for this game(you can’t slap a two on it and consider adding a few maps, game modes and characters a new game. Only thing that’s new is the cash shop) I loved Overwatch in the beginning, but after the shitstorm that’s Blizzard killed what I loved, I stopped and began playing other games. I don’t know if I should be happy or angry
Overwatch is dead. Blizzard is dead. But there are other great games recently made, you just have to move on. Cyberpunk, Baldurs Gate or System Shock come to my mind. Never play a game with predatory money gambling mechanics.
@@tonnentonie2767 You might not like how Overwatch 2 has shaped out or how Blizzard runs the game or company. Heavens know I don't. But saying "Overwatch is dead" is plain out incorrect. I play it daily, and it has a daily playercount of over 350,000 individual people, with a monthly playercount of over 23 million. The game is more alive than ever.
@@KeiwaMOh I didn't know that, I just followed all the "doomsday" news about it. Still, I played it in the beta, then from time to time, and for me the whole company is sadly dead. I am glad the brood war and sc2 scene is still going strong. Good to know that people can still enjoy overwatch.
Moira needs an actual cinematic, she’s involved with so many of the overwatch characters (lore wise) and very important to the story. Despite your hatred for her gameplay, she’s an interesting character and id love to learn more about her personally. Idk maybe im just crazy but i love her overall character
@@TheDudeWhoWalks generally they do that by erecting a statue or a monument. Unless they removed his body and left the armor, what they did is kinda disrespectful imo
D.vas backstory is the best one in my opinion. It shows that she isnt a gamer girl like everyone thinks, but a truly hero who would risk her life to save everyone
Yeah but can we just take a moment to con sider how ABSOLUTELY PSYCHO it is that the Korean government recruited literal child soldiers, based on their Starcraft II leaderboard scores, gave them flying nuclear reactors and went "There, save us from the hyperintellegent evolving death machines! We'll give you a sponsorship deal!"
@@TheRusty well I remember that there was a search made that said that gamer had the reflexes to pilot a mech. But yes it stills insane whenever I remember this animation that Dva was about to die cuz nobody was there to prouand a child had to do all the work
Dammit, Blizzard really knows how to pull at the heartstrings. This is the Overwatch, the Blizzard i miss I don't know if we'll ever get it back though... Guess I'll hold out hope
Through all the troubles of overwatch, I dont think they will be able to overcome what they are going through now. If they make an acutally movie it might bring it back
They have such a great set of stories in the Overwatch characters. Why do we not have an Arkane style series or 3 by now? With almost 40 heroes and several different good, evil and neutral-ish organizations and factions, they could run a bunch of series concurrently OR sequentially in different geographical locations with several styles of stories. Imagine the straight up Overwatch vs Talon/Null Sector, progressing the recall into a full blown rebel heroes fighting both the bad guys and evading the world governments (like the X-Men, X-Force, etc). You got all the initial recall heroes Winston, Sojourn, Mei, Reinhardt, Tracer, Torbjorn, Brigitte, Bastion, etc. for the main story line. Bring them in in groups in whatever order you wish. First Season, Backstories in flashbacks and Recall. Second Season Null Sector and invasion arc individual missions, mix and match characters, throw in a few talon conflicts as lead up to third Season: Talon behind it all, throw in Doomfist escape, and Sombra hackery. Stealth missions and uncovering the behind the scenes mystery. Separate series for The Wasteland with Junkrat, Roadhog, Junker Queen, Hammond, some of the other characters from the Junker Queen intro. More of a Hijinx and Humor series. could be shorter and more episodic. maybe some small tie ins with the main series and Overwatch/Talon. Another Series with more of an old school manga feel like Narruto or Avatar the Last Airbender with the Shamadas (Hanzo and Genji), Kiriko, and Zenyatta fighting the criminal underworld of Asian cities. Maybe throw in DVA and the Korean Mech pilots battling Kaiju (Although that could easily be its own series). Another series could show the Omnics and their struggle with prejudice from the other side of the Omnic Crisis. Maybe anther one with Vishkar about corporate espionage and ethics vs profit. So much material there just languishing. It is a crime that this is not being capitalized by the best media for it: Animated series. I love the game don't get me wrong but saving all that lore and juicy character backstory is wasted on PVP only shooter (don't even get me started about the PVE)! Hey, what about a TTRPG? I would rather give my money to that kickstarter than by a single skin in the shop!
Alot of these videos show some amazing stories that they can create when Blizzard isnt focused on pandering to some group and let things happen naturally.
Rein and Bastion's stories are always the hardest. Same with Mei Mei losing all her friends realizing she's alone Bastion with his PTSD and his struggle to find peace and me sympathizing with Rein for his loyalty and willingness to help no matter what the cost is to him. When called, I will answer and be anyone's shield
Overwatch seems like it would’ve been better as a PvEvP type of game with hero creation or hero editing (edit the heroes you play) Story could be a lot more in depth visually that way too.
The heavy emphasis on artstyle would never support it imo. It either wouldn't be as in-depth as you'd like, or people would be running around with atrocities.
so im new to overwatch i never actually played this game till OW2, and i'm kind of addicted, this game is awesome, i knew nothing about the lore of the game, now i after i watched the cinematics i'm really into the game. I dont have a main champion yet, i dont have a main role, i dont even have 50 victories to start playing ranked games yet, but i already like this game A LOT. And the Kiriko cinematic was by far my favourite
I've never played Overwatch because I'm not into fps games but I've always loved watching the animated shorts. They should do something like what Riot did with Arcane, that would be amazing.
they are doing a wonderful job when it comes to designing and cinematics, i wish they could be as good as this on the gameplay part too. The maps they make look beautiful but they dont know how to balance stuff, neither the characters nor the maps are balanced. sometime even a small piece of cover plays a big role
It feels like the only part of the development team as passionate about Overwatch as the community is the people who make the cinematics. They understand what the rest of Blizzard doesn't, which is that we never fell in love with the game for the gameplay. We fell in love with Overwatch for the narrative.
Ramattra has always been my favorite character since drop. Look at bastion. He sprayed down that forest out of fear. The Omnics were designed to feel like humans do.
I wish this was a book, movie, or show. I have zero video game skills, but I’m absolutely in love with game lore. Thank you for putting this together 💜
I hope the success of Mario movie and Five Nights at Freddy's will inspire Blizzard to make a movie as well All these great characters and their backstories just beg for a screen adaptation and now with Microsoft's resources Blizzard might just have the opportunity to make a full movie. After seeing the video there's no doubt the animation team is capable of making a movie, it's just a question of finance. Let's just hope that one day we will get the right announcement
