I actually feel so bad for the developers who poured their soul into the pve just to be told "hey can you like... Stand on a stage and tell them you guys decided to cancel the pve to focus on the live service free game? Thanks losers"

The reason for the sequel tie-in, as I believe I recall being said by Jeff himself, was that it would take the work of a whole new game to get the PvE system and Ai-interactions to work, since it was limited for the first one. But clearly Jeff leaving the company was a bad, bad sign that his sequel/prequel cross dream was dead. Truly a shame to see this loss.

They truly managed to redefine what a sequel means. Never before was a sequel just a veiled change of monetization practice for the game.

Blizzard’s inability to read the room on what their fan base wants is honestly insane, the roadmap they’ve put out is standard, if not, behind modern times and they realistically don’t have anything to entice a new player base into their game anymore

The irony is that players have made more pve in custom games than the dev team.

TF2 got PvE right YEARS ago. Mann vs. Machine nailed it and all they had to do was take some notes. Heck its still a fun time to this day.

i’m so glad to see content creators as annoyed with the inexcusable deceit and lack of content. it honestly just feels like a slap in the face to the community. for me, i stopped feeling any love put into this game after jeff left. it’s so sad to see the game i fell in love with be reduced to this embarrassment.

I came into Overwatch when they released it for the Switch. Loved playing it so much I turned around and bought it for PC as well. What I loved the most was the "Lets Find a Group" feature or LFG. It was amazing to just find a group and just talk and play games in between. Honestly it was some of my favorite moments in gaming and I wish more games had that feature. Less than 6 months later they deleted my game, and the new game doesn't have LFG. I uninstalled it from my switch and pc.

I can’t think of a better example of a game having so much good will only to be absolutely tanked by the incompetence of its developer.

I love how they said "We wanted to talk about the PVE before we talk about the road map". Like, they truly thought people were gonna stick around and pay attention to the rest

They gaslit the playerbase from the very beginning just to get them to hand over all the cash for the new battle passes and milk the game as much as possible

A friend of mine paid £40 for the bundle that would've given you the PvE as soon as it came out. And as you can imagine it's an extreme understatement to say they are pissed that their money was stolen by the scammers at Blizzard

The locked role with one tank made me drop the game with my friends. Two of us love to play Reinhardt and we just couldn't anymore. It felt like we were being punished for liking the same character/role.

The simplest way to make Blizzard feel like they failed is by stopping to play the game. If enough people do this maybe those higherups will realise you cant just blatantly make false promises and get away with it.

Announcing Overwatch 2 was absolutely a way to distract from ongoing controversy and the "sequel" was also absolutely just a scheme to introduce a new shit monetization system.

Something I never here people talk about is how they only had 3 new heroes on release. Which is the equivalent of like them making 1 hero a year. Absolutely WILD. Overwatch 2 at minimum should of released with 10 new heroes.

I’m gonna keep it real; it was already dead about a week after it’s launch, the only reason it was kept alive was the promise of something more (and possibly the waifus but still). They dug their own graves by canceling the one thing that people wanted out of this sorry excuse of a sequel, and started the downhill spiral by deleting the first game

I remember playing overwatch on release date... since then overwatch got so big that the creators weren't ready to get there pockets stuffed with all of that cash and forgot to act professionally. Once a few of them got called out for being shady the others left without a fight simply because they made their money and knew they made bad decisions towards the end so they just passed it off to their second string and told them to stuff their pockets again !!!! like there are no way the creators think some skins are worth $20

Finally someone that talks about this: money. The sole purpose of the executives at Blizzard is money, every decision they make is for money. They killed PvE because it was too expensive and they could sell it once at maybe 60€/$, so they decided it was better to make PvE smaller and sell 100 missions at 20$ each. OW went from a great game managed by people who care (such as Jeff) to a money laundering machine.

I’ve never had such an amazing experience with overwatch 1, I’ve been gaming for 20 years and building up a team of 6 regular players across my country to smash it out in overwatch was easily one of the most fun experiences I’ve ever had in gaming, the current state of the industry makes me feel like I will never taste anything close to that experience again

The biggest irony is that Blizzard actually did the smartest decision. They saw that they cannot make good on their promises so they relaunched it as FTP game. Hello overwatch players , I am a Warcraft 3 player , welcome to the "Blizzard showed me something awesome , and then they cancelled it and ruined the old version, and they still want my money" club.....everything you said in the video is exactly what we in Wc3 have been suffering with for years , I never played a game of overwatch in my life , but I feel for you all.

Honestly even if people say "But Overwatch 2 is F2P" that doesnt mean you cant sue blizzard for false advertising and people could and probably will sue them.

I literally called this to a friend, like 4 years ago, I knew this would happen with WOW's decline and Overwatch. It also just feeds into it when you consider that literally all the staff members from original overwatch were let go, the original blizzard directors left the company, etc. It's been going downhill since the Activision Blizzard partnership, they're unironically now LackTheVision Blizzard.

i think your the first content creator who managed to put into words why i hate 5v5, and role lock tbh. instead of balancing the characters, all they do is come up with solutions that make the game stagnate faster and faster. i know deep down in my heart if OW1 was getting patch updates regularly for the last 3 years, they wouldn't have needed 5v5 in the first place. now only around 2 tanks are useful at a time, while the others are useless.

Blizzard is the only company I know of that can screw up a game so bad that it destroyed it's predecessor twice.

I'm of the belief that Overwatch has always been too much for Blizzard to handle. I mean, look at all their other games, Overwatch is an IMMENSELY different experience and instead of being honest with us and themselves, they gave us WAY too many hopes and expectations just to let us down.

I still love Overwatch for it's gameplay and characters, but yeah the PvE stuff getting scrapped is just a HUGE heartbreak, especially for casual players, I was really looking forward to it, such a bummer.

Don't be fooled by the layout of the roadmap either - in the interview they said that 'Season 7 and beyond' actually just meant season 7 + season 8. That new tank hero that they list at the top will almost certainly come out in season 8 too, because they release heroes every other season (with the exception of the first 2 seasons.) Lifeweaver came out in season 4, no hero listed on the roadmap for season 5, new Support hero season 6... you get the idea. Season 7 will likely have the new control map, but apart from that it's looking pretty empty.

Team Fortress 2: The game that outlived a game, Twice.

What most people don't seem to notice is that Overwatch was shutdown because players could earn skins easily and for free. Then Overwatch 2 came out and it is worse game in every possible way. You now have to grind every day and stay active to maybe afford one legendary skin. After that they cut content and are no longer even trying to hide the fact that they only want to maximize profits and don't give a F about player experience.

Blizzard went from one of the most respectable companies to actually being worse than EA at just about every single thing. This is unacceptable and I hope they get a lawsuit for fraud and false advertising. I regret NOTHING not touching OW2 with a 2000ft pole. I knew this would happen. :/

I'm not a game dev but I've had my fair few share of working with maths and damage calculations in video games and I can tell you now, its actually as easy as changing 1 variables value, hell in the workshop you can even do this yourself in around 30 seconds, and they're trying to tell us that 7,500 employees who are presumably getting full time salaries cant do this in 30 days and not even test it first?

As a TF2 fan I have to say my condolences. No one should have to deal with the same treatment that valve has been giving us over the years and I’m starting to see some very horrifying similarities.

You know, I will always remember when Overwatch first came out. It was chaotic, beautiful fun that was unbalanced but so fun. That game was not comepltely "fair" sure, but you could still pull off some great stuff with even the weakest of characters if you were good enough. But then Blizzard revealed they wanted this to be their competitive darling, their answer to CSGO professional gaming. They took a goofy team battle shooter way too seriously and fucked it. Worst part? we can never go back to that golden time. There is no "Overwatch Vanilla." The game no longer exists, and I still wont get my fucking money back.

The only way I'll ever play OW again, is if they put OW1 servers back up. Make it 2 separate games, I paid for OW1 not OW2. It was simply a microtransaction update, that's it.

It’s funny because there actually has been an example of something like this working. Final Fantasy 14. First release was terrible and they basically kept it running while redeveloping it from the ground up and is now one of the best MMOs on the market

This is genuinely gut wrenching, I was at blizzcon 2019 and was actually hyped for the pve of overwatch, never cared much for the game, but I really cared for the story overwatch tried to build. Hearing the announcement of the promised pve, the thing that probably would’ve got me back into overwatch since the release of the first game, get completely cut; it made me almost cry. Comparing this with tf2, at the VERY least Valve is radio silent about most updates to the game and never officially announce most things unless they fully intend on implementing them, plus, their messages are vague and left mosty to fan interpretations of what they mean. I’m not saying this is good, what I’m saying is it doesn’t feel like highway robbery.
