Tried something new and SPLIT the tier list with two diff parameters this time. - The disparity between tiers isn't as big as it seems - I lumped 99% of the player base in one side for quick "at-a-glance" value but I know bronze and masters are really far apart - At the end of the day, play what you want cuz everything is playable Let me know if this is a better format || Also come say hi at twitch.tv/karq weekdays
Much better IMO, although I would have included Masters in the second tier list. The problem with most tier lists is that they're exclusively done from the perspective of a high-level player.
I appreciate separating the lists into bronze-masters and GM-Top 500. As much as a tier list is supposed to be for the top level of players, 99% of people will take it to heart even though it doesn't really apply to them since they're in the lower or middle ranks. I definitely think splitting it up into "People who absolutely, 100% know what they're doing and can do it" and "People who are competent enough to play but aren't pros" helps with that distinction of what's good and what's not
four things I love about KarQ tier list 1. never miss a hero (some content creator miss a hero lol) 2. grouping it by role 3. sorting it alphabetically 4. actually consider that most of us are low rank (and split the tier list into two category)
I understand why creators make just one list though. They only speak based on their own experiences in high rank, because some creators who have made separate lists have missed the mark because they are going off only on hypotheticals. These t500 players have no idea what goes on at metal ranks. Hell, there's so many D.Vas, Winstons, and Zaryas, also Rein, i've encountered in Plat but their lists mainly center around the fact that their games are full of Rein, Ram, Orisa. There's also so many Meis and Genjis which would make Pharah extremely strong on first points. These are just my experiences though, which are vastly different from t500 games. Secondly, because some account for the fact that people who absolutely abide by the lists they make are people who are trying hard to climb, so they suggest heroes that will be amazing in the tiers that they are aiming for. Take my case for example, people keep telling me to play moira at low ranks in season 2 which is true and good, yeah I breezed through bronze to gold, but by the time I reached plat I literally had no impact at all because my choice of hero brings marginal utility. I got 40 hours stuck in plat. But now, I go Brig to counter the dive meta in Asia and I got masters in 8 hours.
I always hate fighting sigmas as a hanzo. He's a tank that can compete with me at medium range and 2 tap me without having to actually aim at me. Projectile just does splash damage and still busts my health up as bad as a hanzo landing 2 body shots on a squishy. That mixed with his survivability just makes him asinine to fight
I respect you so much for taking time on this patch and giving it a week. I trust you probably more than any other content creators. Thank you for a very thought out tier list.
I really enjoy the tier layout on this video, not even the heros themselves just the side by side comparison. I do think having which hero you are discussing in the black bars would clean it up nice cause its difficult to see on mobile. Great content keep up the good work!
GM Sombra Main here: She is definitely playable again! But, like in OW1, depending on your / the enemy team, she can swing from S Tier to F Tier in an instant. But on average people play a lot of ball and do follow calls (atleast in GM) - also the 0.5 damage buff lets me finally win some duells again :D crazy how much this tiny number changed the game for me :D
I agree too, the damage during season 2 was literally unplayable when I would have secured kills with 2 thirds of the ammo clip in season 1, now I can at least attempt a solo kill now instead of just dealing poke damage.
@@Xizile93 if shes scoped in, just run up to her invis point blank range and unload into her head and she dies instantly. dont even hack because that gives her warning time to react
i think sombras in a good spot right now that small buff to her damage really added to her ttk on squishy targets when she gets mercy damage boosted it feels like she’s shooting a minigun
I knew people were gaslighting me about rein... Stun time on shatter being longer is massive. Firestrike two tap (or one taps with window/extra damage from nano or DB) is really good and further speeds ult gain from range.
agreed BUT if you're solo queuing those broken/ meta heroes really come in clutch when your team is ass because you can just do everything yourself. and buffed doom had to be some of the most fun shit
I gotta agree on Bap for the metal ranks is overlooked. He's kinda busted to one trick if your solo q. Went from starting at gold last season to now reaching masters by just playing only him his kit is so versatile and immortality is a counter to so many ults on a 25 second cooldown plus he does a good amount of damage on his own
One of my favorite things to do is play a few rounds of comp on my mains (Moira/Ana/Kiri) then go to quick play to mess around with the other supports. I don't feel as much pressure to win since I going out of my way to NOT play my mains and don't have to worry about my rank, so it's really fun just to see what I can do with each one. I've focused on Zen and Brig, though and haven't tried out Bap in a while. Sounds like I need to pick him up again, lol. I've been focusing on my Moira mostly and seen a good jump (mid gold to mid plat), but it's always good to branch out and see if something else might work better, like that Bap sleeper pick you found. Congrats on getting to Masters!
I can't believe some content creators were putting McCree at B or C tier, the range buff coupled with the hog nerf were clearly going to make him very strong especially when you consider all the little buffs he's received, hell I didn't even know combat roll gave damage reduction until I survived a tracer pulse bomb about a week ago and thought to myself "Wait.. What?" I think he was going to be strong even without the range buff simply because roadhog wasn't going to be picked every game now, but it does feel really bad when you shoot a pocketed Pharah so many times at mid range and can't finish her off because of damage drop off, the range buff should help with things like that, but now Pharah seems completely useless.
I do love how you seperated the tier lists but I think for the most accurate low rank results you should do three lists 1. Low ranks (bronze-gold) 2. Mid ranks (plat-diamond and masters can go in here too if you prefer but imo it’s in the high ranks) and 3. High ranks (Masters imo-t500)
While the separate tier lists is an excellent addition, I do think having such a wide disparity in skill for bronze to masters makes placing an average position for many heroes very difficult. For example I think Lucio is much more of a B hero as an average, and I think widow is more of a B. A lot of the reasonings came down to skill of the "metal ranks" which is very fair, but in diamond and masters, (maybe high plat to some extent) its a totally different ballgame to the super low ranks. I'm not necessarily suggesting a third tier list as that would be too much work I suspect, but I think maybe a little extra consideration for the more middling ranks could be good for it
I hope Genji will get some sort of buff soon, he sadly is almost unplayable for the casual player whos not onetricking him. I personally perform quit well with him against certain comps, but thats on dumping hundreds of hourse into practicing him
So glad to hear Doomfist is seen as really good in high ranks. I adore Tankfist and was sad to see people shitting on him again after he got slight nerfs and his 4 sec punch cooldown revert. He requires intense focus but is so euphoric to play as :)
Dude, I loved the two lists for different ranks. Thank you so much. I'm getting tired a little bit of GM/T500 oriented content, since I don't play at that level and probably never will.
I like the two different tierlists for T500 and “other” but I really think there should be just one more separation. Bronze-low gold is so drastically different from high diamond/masters that practically nothing applies to both of them.
This tier list is bad I’m sorry. You have rein and Cassidy and 76 as S tier. Lol they all are trash and get absolutely rekt by the two best heroes in the game. Sojourn and Ramattra. Those two are by far the most fun and strongest characters in the game hands down. Sojourn and Ramattra outperforms every other character in every aspect. Strength, power, utility, defense, escape mechanisms and fun to play. Not to mention they both are sexy af. And as a sojourn and Ramattra main this makes me incredibly happy to see. Hands down the best Overwatch has ever been imo. Keep it up blizz.
Speaking as a Ball player, Zen is rly annoying to play against as he has no cooldown per target for discord and can keep it on you 24/7... there really isn't a "right" time to engage unless he'd dead unlike bastion whom you try to bait out his tank form. Love the tier list however, C tier should maybe have a "because you suck" for Doom Widow and Lucio :D
Isn't really related to the tier list, but me as a gold/plat player (😭) I absolutely love playing Echo. Literally almost every quickpay game (when there's no widow god in the enemy team) I have 18.000 damage and most eliminations. Mastering her movement and cooldowns pays off in such a satisfying way; she's just so much funnnnn Only the ult is my weakpoint, I somehow manage to almost never get value out of it
Finally a tierlist for both GMs and also metal ranks. So many tierlists are just from the perspective of a top500 player and barely apply in a Gold lobby.
Yeah i think the least they can do is just give him back his ammo the amount of times i have got an enemy down to one hit then i got to reload and in 0.5 seconds their healed to half health by a mercy its so annoying
I just love you for speaking the truth about Sym. Players use to think that she is a very easy pick hero but she IS NOT, she requires a good sense of what you doing and what you´re about to do to be precisely effective. For these thoughts of her being easy players consider her a bad hero when failing to play her. As a Sym OTP Im very glad that someone with influence as you spoke the truth about her
I main Rein, Ball, and Sigma, they’re my only 3 heroes with 100+ hours, so this season has been very kind to me. I’m back in Diamond at tank for the first time since OW1
I’m probably gonna get blown up for this, but I completely disagree with him on mercy. Specifically just on the GA. As a masters level player, I think they should prioritize the feel of hero rather than viability.
Bap lamp is super annoying on console because the aim assist is sooooo stong on it and it pulls you above the lamp rather than toward it or just not having aim assist on it.
@@foldedcandle Mercy's main fun factor IS her movement. Previously, her cool downs made her feel dynamic and fluid. Now, her GA cd nerf makes her clunky and static. Her kits synergies with GA are also gone, she could previously GA again more less at the same time her beam lingered allowing her to follow teammates that just crossed a corner, or if she dashed before a teammate used a movement ability to get to high ground for example. Now her beam breaks sooner than her GA cd comes back so she has to waddle awkwardly in the open back to having line of sight with said teammate. This is specially terrible when we're talking about high ground cause in most cases the Mercy cannot get back up with her teammate unless they turn back to restore line of sight. She also lost her Res GA synergy but im not gonna go in depth this already long enough. Overall this only promotes even more turtling and hard pocketing than before, as the increased risk of flying over to other teammates to provide care and makes it so the optimal play is to stay behind a wall holding dmg boost, which doesn't feel great as a gameplay loop over what we could do before. Sorry if there are any spelling mistakes English is not my primary language and I just spitballed everything I had on mind :P
To be fair. Pretty much no one is saying mercy is weak, she's stronger even. They just ruined the fun of the hero. No one likes hiding behind cover pocketing a dps and now that is the only way to play her. It's not fun for mercy or the enemy.
bro i swear to god people hate moria in low rank lobbies, they always say, "shes not meta in top 500" like yeah but you're not top 500, in metal ranks moria is near unkillable and there's no point in going mercy when you don't have any good dps to pocket.
Doom is good in the right hands but could do with some bug fixes, slam doesn't damage a lot of the time leading to less shields and the power fist doesn't activate after ult sometimes leading you to die because you think you have it.
Putting widow in C tier for metal ranks can’t be further from the truth. I play in Diamond Plat and every 2 matches I get a deadly widow. She’s super strong.
Honestly doesn't make sense to me either. Widow and sojourn are dominating lobbies starting in plat. Think karq might be a bit uniformed on some of these picks.
Agreed, in my opinion karq seems like to missunderstand that switch 6v6 to 5v5 with 1 less tank the dps will have more free space to play, that means a lot for snipers as well, so it's not that hard to realize that widow will be more playable than she ever was even with 175 hp that never needed to be buffed when ow2 came.
The changes to Sombra in Overwatch 2 are horrible. Her ultimate emp should be as it was in Overwatch 1 negating all abilities. Sombra will never be viable in Overwatch 2
KarQ might be overthinking Lucio quite a bit here. With Reinhardt in the meta right now if you speed burst him in the rest will follow in any tier. That alone makes Lucio at least A Tier if you just do that. Reinhardt and Lucio are made for each other.
so the weird thing about point and click heroes like Cree, Widow etc. in ranks that are _between_ the medal ranks and GM is that inconsistency you mentioned. I play support and whether or not that Widowmaker will be a menace to play against is a fricking dice roll every time. I get the feeling they're either cracked out of their minds and hit you as soon as 1 pixel of your hitbox is visible, or they miss 10 shots in a row and you can outsnipe them as Ana effortlessly. It's a weird spot to be in because you can't really adapt to it, and it feels like those 2 kinds of players must be 10 ranks apart but in reality they are the same player and just have strong and weak moments
I think lumping every single person from bronze to masters together is a bit crazy ngl. Masters players are routinely in GM/t500 lobbies (and have been long before the current matchmaking issues) and their games have a lot more in common with those players than say a bronze or silver game. I think it's misleading to make assumptions about hero balance as if they apply the same way to players across a nearly 4,000 SR range.
Sombra can easily dominate in lower ranks because all she needs to do is target enemy support and thats it. Low rank dps absolutely refuses to deal with her which just allows her to run around free and spawn camp support.
As a Sombra main, I’m reeeeeeaaalllyyyy looking forward to that rework next season. I feel like I can’t even play her still because I simply get more value playing literally anyone else.
yeah, Sombra main here too, tbh one of the main problem rn is that you can no longer chain hack since there's the individual 8 seconds CD, which is kinda significant somehow for me, it just feels weird not able to hack a "hackable" target
@@Asdfghjkl-ls1or yeah, but during season 2, the hack nerve plus the damage nerf made me unable to solo kill supports easily, compared with when in season 1 I was able to do that if I had good aim that day
idk man, im not gm/t500 and i still agreed with the gm/t500 tier list wayyy more than the bronze/masters one. Does karq think that everyone who isnt top 500 is automatically bronze? xD
the Junkrat nerf is so noticeable, i’m getting like 70% less kills because the enemies are living by 10-20 HP everytime, so much harder to hit the combo
As a ball main in gold, ball still isn't super good in lower ranks, the buffs aren't as impactful if you aren't already good it takes more to pop pd than just hitting a button so the extra 20% uptime is more like an extra 2%, and honestly I preferred the armor over the shield since I already know where health packs are and the armor made it so I could engage longer
The main reasons why I as a Mercy main hate these changes is: 1. she is just straight us stronger which imo will just set her up for more nerfs with no compensation buffs this time 2. she less fun to play as and EVEN LESS fun to play against when she turn allies invincible with her new healing she is arguably easier to play because you have less incentive to do anything remotely "unsafe" cuz trust and believe, the slightest risk will cost you everything, so just sit back, turn your brain off and pocket your Sojourn while self healing yourself by doing nothing lmao
