Fun fact: in his usual lead-poisoned stupidity, Soldier actually was the first who correctly identified the problem. They indeed cannot teleport bread anymore. But then Engineer went ahead and told him that he can teleport as much bread as he likes, and so, following Engineer's instructions (hence why when questioned, Soldier says "you told me to"), he proceeded to do nothing but teleport bread all day.

The "We are gonna live forever" line from Soldier does kind of hurt now. R.I.P Rick May

the way spy tries so hard not to smile when scout says he'll do it himself is so adorable mannn fuck CN or adult swim or whoever it was who canceled production on it, this was such a good pilot

I don't think anyone's mentioned this, but notice how Spy tried to go through the effort of gathering everyone's dying wishes in an attempt to get all of their affairs in order. And when Scout comes to him (At this point Spy was in denial about Scout being his son and Scout didn't know) with a genuine last wish he spends 56 hours helping him with it. I just think it's neat when they show him to be compassionate.

fun fact! Expiration Date was originally meant to be a pilot for an Adult Swim TF2 show! however, Valve being Valve, they ended up taking too long and the project was cancelled. but they uploaded the finished pilot to RU-vid as a promotional film.

Soldier has to be the dumbest but most likeable character in all of this, I love his character (as much as I love every other characters) The fact that he is so proud to have teleported bread for 3 days straight always kills me Edit : as people are saying in the answers : R.I.P Rick May 1940-2020 "You were good son, real good, maybe even the best."

For context about Miss Pauling. She's the Administrator's loyal assistant. The Administrator is the boss lady who yells at you during the game and keeps the mercenaries in check. In this short film, the team has been working together for 4 years, so they know who their 2-3 bosses are. Miss Pauling is the one who works most closely with the 9 mercenaries.

I wish they did more shorts like this, this stands the test of time so well!

when you think about it, even though spy was super annoyed, i dont think anyone would spend their last moments on earth fulfilling someone elses wish, unless it was your kid.

Quick explaination for ya if youre interested!! Miss Pauling is the Assistant of the Administrator, who is the employer of the Mercs and the voice you hear during the game who tells you when your game has started, if the enemy team is winning ect. Pauling is generally clean up, or literally anything else that the Administrator tells her to do, there was actually a whole event about the government finding out how much she worked and them forcing her to take a vacation, she still works the entire time but still, she's a great character and definitely one of my favorites in the cast

Spy is Scout's absentee father (technically RED Spy is BLU Scout's father, but Valve animators often pretend only RED team exists), but Scout either doesn't remember or (indicated by the comics) has vague memories from toddler childhood but categorically is in denial about it. It's unclear how many of Scout's seven older brothers remember of their father... or even if they all have the same father, because Scout-Ma raised them as a single mother on the south side of Boston. But some Lore implied Spy did visit her regularly, and presumably brought her money, considering that she was still sleeping with him by the time of _Meet the Spy._

Something sad is that Rick May (soldiers voice actor) died after this and soldiers final line is “We’re not dying! We’re gonna live forever!” Rick May is an absolute legend in an absolutely legendary game

There were a few moments in the video I wanted to comment on to help 1:08 - A lot of TF2 fans are mad at how similar Overwatch is to TF2, believing they copied it to sell their own game. Sorry about that. 6:11 - You’d be surprised. The silhouettes of the mercenaries were designed so well that there’s never a moment where I ask “is that class A or B?” (with the exception of Spy for different reasons), even with all the cosmetics. 12:34 - Just wanted to say I love that reaction. The is also one more video that’s more of an update trailer called “Jungle inferno”. It’s the latest official video and I highly recommend it!

I highly suggest you react to the TF2 comics, they include a massive chunk of lore and are overall just fun to read, it also shows the backstory and origins of the Mercs

End of the Line was the closest thing we’ve gotten to an official latest SFM. Valve promoted it for the update or something. Someone here probably knows more about this than me. My memory isn’t the best.

It's sad that TF2 show got cancelled and we never got more official videos from Valve but at least we got some good community animators with their videos (Winglet does some real awesome TF2 SFM animations and series).

Sadly it did get cancelled, but it's not really adult swim's fault its Valve's fault for not sticking to schedules and deadlines (you can imagine how the community feels about that) Since you're new to the TF2 stuff ( even if you don't end up playing the game, I would really recommend the comics! its the most close we got to the cancelled adult swim series...fair warning, the comic finale never came out (it's been 5 years since the last update, safe to say it's never coming out either) ) here's some canon fun fact and trivia -Tom Jones (the singer) got killed twice in TF2 , and Scout thinks Tom Jones is his dad, not Spy (Spy confessed the fact to scout using a disguise, dont want to go into details to not spoil it) -Medic has stolen every merc's soul and attached them to himself, allowing him to outsmart the Devil (and also outsmart bullet) -Since in your last video you mentioned "if there's TF2 does this mean theres a TF1", yes, it's known as Team Fortress Classic, it's like counter strike/quake, however, the TFC mercenaries are part of TF2's canon, and they're the antagonists -Soldier is the dumbest of all the mercenaries because he kept drinking water poisoned with lead -Soldier's partner is one of Heavy's sisters, and Heavy does not like that whatsoever -Demoman lost his left eye to Soldier's roommate, Merasmus the Wizard (Merasmus also used to be Tom Jones' roommate as well) -Engineer might be the only person to understand Pyro to a degree, they were roommates as well -Demoman almost died due to poisoning, except the poison was clean water + regular food / no alcohol whatsoever, so his body started producing its own alcohol in order to survive -Engineer is the mercenary with the least exposition/lore explained (it most likely would had been shown on the final comic had it been released), engineer comes across as the most sane and smart of them all (he has 11 phd) but it is safe to assume he's also as insane as the rest, he cut off his own hand in order to replace it for a robot hand ( the Gunslinger, a weapon you can use in the game) and in his Meet the Engineer video, at the very end, the campfire? is a burning sniper body

Spy is Canonically Scouts Dad. Spy will never admit it, and Scout is the only person, besides maybe Soldier, who doesn't know. When Scout talked to heavy about his dad "disappearing on him" heavy replied "Your father disappears often it seems" alluding to the fact that he knows, even if scout doesn't.

When soldier say he is gonna live for ever , he was true , as long as we dont forget the voice of this man , he will be alive in the game

I'd like to state that Spy really did care if anything, he spent his dying hours teaching scout how to get the date with Ms.Pauling instead of literally anything else

It's funny that you say that you have trouble telling Soldier and Engineer apart. The main drive for the characters themselves is that you would be able to tell the class from a glance at their silhouette. So you can see real quickly, in-game, what you're dealing with.

Spy didn't want to acknowledge that he's Scout's father because of the Spy thing. Scout's mom told him that his father is Tom Jones which it isn't because Tom Jones is dead but Spy needs to run with it, whenever Spy wants to appear, he would put up his disguise as Tom Jones.

Fun Fact: There's actually a comic book series continuing on after the events of expiration date.

Ms. Pauling is actually assistant to the Administrator, the true master of the turf wars. She's an expert in body disposal and works 364 days per year. Other than that, she's a pretty normal person.

Spy has a smoking room because of how cigarette smoke tends to stick to fabric, surfaces and the like, fouling it, so having a designated room specifically for smoking minimises the smell and also allows the proper keeping of various tobacco products which can spoil if not kept in the right conditions as well as enhancing the overall smoking experience by allowing isolation from bothersome persons. Various other amenities can be contained within the smoking room as a result, such as alcohol, reading material, comfy chairs, a television for sports viewing etc.

The first ever tf2 clip I saw was a quick clip of expiration date with tumors in like a meme comp now I actually have the real game I’ve never been happier.

So with the spy is scout's dad thing, it kinda depends. Going off the animated shorts, them the enemy spy is the scout's dad. But, going off the comics the spy on red is red scout's dad. Likely because all the mercs in the main comics are red, with blue being the team fortress classic mercenaries

The title of the short has a triple meaning: expiration date as in the expiration date for when food goes bad, the expiration date for when the mercs are all going to die, and also scout wants to go out on a day.

When you use the teleporter in game , there is a small chance that when exiting the teleporter , bread comes out with you. The type of bread depends on class and it's nationality. The chance is higher for soldier. And yes , Spy is Scouts father , in the TF2 comic there was a moment where scout was dying and Spy disguised himself as Tom Jones cause Scout was a big fan of his (Scout even has a misspelled tatto of a famous Tom Jones line)
