hey dudes - I want to quickly clarify some points, since it seems I didn't give them a proper explanation in the vid: 1) There are *definitely* items in TF2 that benefit teammates, such as Soldier banners, mad milk, sandvich, etc. These are great items but they are supplementary to each class "core" role - for example, a Soldier's "core" moveset is centered around high amounts of rocket damage. He has the ability to provide *minor* team buffs with buff banner (as a tradeoff for less shotgun damage) but his core kit is built to deal damage, not to buff teammates. By comparison, MANY Overwatch characters have a "core" moveset that is entirely based around benefiting teammates. Reinhardt's single most important move is his shield, and it DRAMATICALLY increases the power level and effectiveness of a team. TF2 Soldier can buff his team, but never in the core way that Reinhardt's character is designed to do, or Orisa with her shield, or Lucio with heal aura, or Dva with defense matrix, etc. The way I phrased this in the video sounded like TF2 characters have ZERO team buff abilities, which is obviously incorrect - that's a dumb oversight by me. The intended point was to compare Overwatch characters being fundamentally designed around team buffs, versus TF2 characters being fundamentally designed around damage output, but I should have worded this better. 2) I am aware competitive TF2 exists! I competed in a season of UGC Highlander, played a bunch of TF2 lobbies, watched tournaments, etc. TF2 is my most played videogame (1600 hours), so I've experienced every aspect of it. But in this video I was deliberately narrowing the focus to "Casual TF2" versus "Casual Overwatch", as I believe this is how 90% of players experience both games, and it's the part that I am personally drawn to. As I laid out in the video, I feel that the casual playstyle of these two games offer vastly different fundamental experiences. That being said, I think I failed to give competitive TF2 proper credit here, and even implied that competitive TF2 *cant* exist, which is absolutely not true. I love comp tf2, I will continue to play comp tf2, and absolutely didn't mean to shun the scene. With both points, I think I tried to oversimplify things and ended up leaving out major game elements in the process. I really do appreciate the feedback on these though - I'm brand new to the "video essay" format so I'm still making mistakes, but trying to improve at it as fast as I can and will keep trying to improve for future videos thanks again. Luv ya'll
First video I've watched of yours and I loved it from head to to...mato. Subscribed. I never played OW and I've been giving unnecessary hate towards it because I'm a hardcore tf2 fan who has 1800 hours. This helped bring some light to it so I can't hate it as much.
update on the current state of the restaurants: overwatch has shut down its first location to make a second one across the street while still serving the same foods. tf2's restaurant manager has said "hey I'm gonna go home for a bit ill leave the door and the lights on, jerry the janitor will make sure no-one breaks anything, have fun" and the restaurant hasnt 're-opened' but jerry has kept things interesting and the community is still having fun.
@@TheRedPheonix-fc7qo don't get your hopes high just yet maybe it's just some new maps with the summer crates update and no actual balance changes, we'll see I mean, just some new dishes with no actual changes to the flavors of the restaurant
One of my favorite things about tf2 is that when you do dumb shit there’s a heavy chance that someone will join you whether they’re on the enemy team or not
In OW, every person I’ve ever played with took the game incredibly seriously. In TF2, I once played with a guy who just sat in spawn and read Fahrenheit 451 into the voice chat the entire game. Safe to say, I prefer TF2
I joined one of the custom servers yesterday and there was this guy on the other team that whos name is Freddy Fazbear was playing the fnaf beatbox on the mic
Overwatch: That restaurant round the corner that’s failing because they’re trying to expand business very badly TF2: That one food truck which has been going around the town for decades without changing but is still extremely popular
and the food truck is filled with rats and the owners ignoring it, the food may taste the same but sometimes the customers food is accidentaly serve with rats, most of the customers leave but the loyal one persuade them to keep eating the food cause its good, but sooner or later the food truck will be shut down, because the owners kept ignoring the big problem or ironically small problems the rats. (this is on the bot situation on tf2 right now)
gunslinger engi still can play very aggressive and build teleports and protect his team by building minis to deny enemies jumping his medic or something
Hey, we battle engineers can actually support the team even more! Especially when you aren't playing payload or attack/defend. On the other maps battle engi is even more useful. Literally any map where you can both attack and defend is perfect for battle engi(KOTH and CTF,even CP with 2 teams trying to capture points and not only 1,even double PL).
Fun fact: I used a Doug Doug style food analogy to explain the differences between the ways tf2 and overwatch have their characters and it was like this Playing a TF2 character is like buying a pizza, extremely customizable, you can play soldier normally with pepperoni’s and cheese and stuff OR you change into rocket jumper and parachute and eat Hawaiian Playing an Overwatch character however is like ordering a pre prepared meal from a restaurant, like sure you could totally eat that steak with your bare hands but you’re *supposed* to eat it with a knife and fork and as such Overwatch characters very much have a specific way of playing them that you’re *supposed* to do
Actually, Killbinding is a tactical move. After one of your teammates intentionally misses all their shots in comedic fashion, they stand still and killbind, causing everyone within direct line of sight to succumb to "the funny", leaving the spy that's been cloaked in the corner for the last 20 minutes to capture the objective.
Overwatch: "Hero's never die" TF2: "and when the patient woke up, his skeleton was missing, and the Doctor was never heard from again! Anyway... That's how I lost my medical license."
How poorly this video has aged, and it's an unfortunate case of Blizzard's negligence. Rest in Peace Overwatch 1, we will miss you. And... LONG LIVE TF2!
@@sninctbur3726 Yeah by overcharging people for the exact same dishes under the pretense of it being "new" when it actuality it's a minimalized shadow of what it once was.
@@thegreatgonzales6813 it's free to play now and the only things that are bought by money are skins and cosmetics. I don't play tf2 but how do u get the different load outs like wepons and such
@@thegreatgonzales6813 ??? The game is literally free now lol. They update it constantly and I’d say the game is in a MUCH better spot rn than before. Only thing that costs money is cosmetic. Doesn’t tf2 sell cosmetics too? Why is it such a big deal when ow does it lol
@@pon39490 Nothing wrong with cosmetics to an extent, but that isn't all Overwatch 2 did that pissed me and many other people off. It's that the game is practically identical to Overwatch 1 but worse in multiple ways. Now, things that were previously available are now locked behind a paywall and obtaining them through gameplay is clearly disincentivized seeing as players earn only 60 coins per week. Additionally, the prices for some of those cosmetics and their bundles are/were insane for only being a cosmetic. 5v5 was not what this game was built for, especially in regards to the characters. They were designed with 6v6 in mind and making the tank the primary player doesn't work as well as it could've if Blizzard reworked the heroes to be tailored to it. Every issue from the first game is still here. The game expects an unbelievable and unreasonable amount of cohesive communication between players in order to excel, even more than before now since matches are 5v5. The roll queue still exists for some fucking reason. TF2 has some insane prices for cosmetics. but those are in a league of their own and are more akin to trading cards than actual skins. Tf2 also has several weapons that can completely change how you play a class and have a direct effect on gameplay. The main difference between TF2's monetization and OW2's is that TF2 doesn't push it on to the player. It's completely fine to play both games without spending a cent on cosmetics but Overwatch 2 constantly shoves them in the player's face. Also, do not give me the "but it's free" argument. Remember Halo Infinite? Remember Diablo Immortal?
Quick update: Overwatch is like a restaurant but they use burnt oil and deliver everything late, also, the server ate 3/4 of the meal and is screaming at you because you didint gave him a 30$ tip for a shitty 4$ meal.
@@viccyyboii3308 He did , he even said that he plays bots games and especially tf2 (both casually and competitively) and that he just oversimplified things for the sake of the video. Also you should remember that this isnt a true vs video since he does praise and critique both games quite leniently.
Hold up tf2 just added a new variation to the gas passer side dish It’s called Neon flavoured gas Maybe they’ll change some of the recipes of the dishes to make them taste better at least?
They can also be described as biting into what you think is a chocolate chip cookie, but it's actually just an oatmeal raisin cookie. Pure disappointment stuffed into a baked treat.
@@insertjokehere212 no theres still bots. I just had a game with bots but the good side is that the match didn't have any actual players (but me sadly) plus if a bot joins an actual game the bot immediately gets kicked
I'm a bit _late_ but i think Tf2 would be more comparable to a burger. every piece alone tastes great, and you don't need to change it, like a mea-vy (meat+heavy) is amazing alone. and some pieces tastes not as great alone, like med-bread, or cond-ineer (condiment + engineer). But can still be eaten differently, like battle med-ettes (baguettes). However, all together taste better, (in casual, sure mea-vy can taste fine alone, but with a med-bread, it makes it greater.) And you don't need everthing, you can have a mea-vy, a med-bread, maybe a cond-ineer if your on defense, but you don't need a pick-out (pickle+scout). It even goes farther like, having too much spy-matoes, can begin to taste bad, and for a stable team, you should probably have 2 med-breads.
One of my favorite things about TF2 is they achieved game balance by making EVERY class overpowered. Any single TF2 class would be insane in almost any other game (especially at the time of its initial release). Heavy's main weapon is a minigun for God's sake, and spy can literally turn invisible and one-hit kill you, then pretend to be you and kill your team mates. That would be INSANE to add to any multi-player game, especially a competitive FPS... but then when you also have a guy with a fucking flame thrower that can repel projectiles, and a guy that can instantly heal any team mate and turn them invincible for a short time, all the insane overpowered bullshit, weirdly, start to balance each other out, which I think is part of the reason TF2 characters feel so good. If you're playing a TF2 class well, you feel like a god, or a badass video game end boss at the very least.. and when you die, it either feels like you didn't do good enough and you know it, or you can blame the other guy's overpowered nonsense. When you die in overwatch, you feel like an idiot, and people let you know it, and when you succeed you do so knowing a large part of that success came from good teamwork, not you alone.
Also, some maps and weapons in TF2 are specifically designed to let you dick around, like ttrlldier and it's satisfying every single time I get a market garden because I love rocket jumping.
The medic is definitely salt. Salt will give robust flavors to the chocolate and improve the overall clusterfuck of candy. You don’t obviously need the salt, but it’s so good you probably should add it. The engineer is like strawberry. They work sometimes with chocolate.
Then there's overwatch 2, which is perfectly designed to _look_ tastier than the first cake, but then you take a bite and the frosting is just waxy (in a bad way), the cake itself is dense and tasteless, and then you go to leave and it turns out the single slice they gave you cost as much as the whole first cake, plus extra for the little chocolate flowers they added to make the plate look nice.
Here is me comparing all tf2 classes to treats, in accordence with the gameplay and this videos metaphore, because I play too much tf2. Scout is like a lollipop, tastes great but is best enjoyed seperatly, as putting them in the frey with the rest will just result in you chewing it to pieces get to the other candy, or removing it and putting it somewhere else because of his low hp and high evasion. Best on flanks, and in 1v1's. Solider is the classic candy bar, allways delichious, never mixes poorly with other candy, and capable of being a well rounded snack all on it's own. Everyone likes the solider, and picking him is never a bad idea, the ideal iconic tf2 experience (and incidentally my least played class, so no bias its just a great class). Pyro is like jeallybeans because it's very easy to like, and is nice alongside almost any collection of candy, but it mostly comes down to just being flavored sugar, and you at some point realize that even though the skill cealing is relatively high in theory, in practise mastery gives diminishing returns, making it easy to feel like developing skill doesn't do much, but tf2 is casual, and skill makes it more fun so definetly still worth it. Demoman is non-stop; a tasty and sweet treat, but only eating non-stop can feel a bit limited. Works great when mixed with other candy, and allways wellcome, unless there is too much spam. Heavy is like a bowl of ice cream, works excellently on his own but definetly benefits greatly from allies, being so slow to eat and vulnerable to flanking classes. Heavy benefits greatly from topping, and can provide a lot of damage and tanking to a team, but only if people play along with him. Engineer is more like a bowl of salted roasted nuts, that goes with anything, elevating their flavor notably, but is a neat snack on it's own just kinda limited, though this is made up for by the variety of nuts out there, and how just a little honney or sirup can make it a nutty bar, and suddenly you have a more worthy lone snack (battle engie). Medic is like a soft drink that helps the thirst so you can eat more candy, it definetly elevates the experience, and can be considdered essential, but you haven't really had candy with just medic. While a snack is allways nice, many would argue it's not snacktime without a tasty drink to go with it. Spy is like liqerish, due to it's unique flavor. It can be sweet or salty, depending on whether you have aquired the taste for it, but in the end it remains a candy that many find anoying in a bag of mixed candy, especially if there are a lot of them. Sniper is like boubblegum, you hardly ever mix it with anything else, and (unless you use the huntsman) probably messed up if you find yourself on the frontline. Some people find the chewing itritating, and don't like finding gum everywhere.
To be fair, they also go, "Here's the phone number for the distributor we use, call em yourself." They give you complete freedom to create anything you possibly can in the engine. Just look at Saxton Hale, does that not count as a new character?
@@isaiaholaru5013Activision Blizzard have been on the news at times, since their working conditions within their company have been leaked. This resulted in many key employees in the company to flee, among them is the key leader of Overwatch.
I feel like each TF2 character benefits the team in an indirect way, they might not be straight up healing the team or supporting them like Medic or Engineer, but every character has a purpose for the team. Team's getting swamped by a bunch of Engineer buildings? Play spy to sneak behind them and sap them. Need to set some traps so the enemy doesn't push forward too much? Play Demoman to set up some sticky bombs. Too many spies sneaking up on your team whilst you're focused on a certain point? Use a pyro to flush them out. Need an easy flank or someone to push forward and pick off some enemies to weaken the enemy advance? Scout's just about as dexterous to avoid shots and get past. Need a long ranged defense to stop people flanking or pick off solo enemies? Sniper's a good job, mate. Need someone to draw fire or provide heavy damage to form a strong central offense? I've yet to meet one that can outsmart bullet
I agree. I remember one time I was playing medic and I had half health and an enemy soldier was right in front of me. But a spy backstabbed him before he could shoot a rocket.
I remember there was a brief time where there was an idea that you can switch OW heroes to counter different comps, except it turns out some heroes are just better and everyone played those.
Also, outside of maybe Medic and Engineer, everyone's primary job is still to do direct damage. Their stock toolset determines how you do that damage. Scout has a hitscan shotgun, so he wants to keep close asd move fast. Soldier has slow projectiles with big splash, so hit clusters, aim for feet for easier hits. You don't Need support to do good damage, but with 12 per team, someone's probably nearby throwing damage in a direction. Plus, you have alternate weapons to change it up a bit. OW's heroes ... they're too specialized, too fragile unless their job is to be a damage sponge.
so overwatch is having to follow a set of lego instructions TF2 is just "here's a bunch of legos. do whatever you want" Or Overwatch is having a good nanoboost TF2 is having a customizable sandvich

*Overwatch:* Even though we are hated, we save the world and try to maintain peace between humans and omnics. We also get rid of the meanie omnics who disturb the peace. *TF2:* Hey, we were hired by this really old guy, and we sometimes fight ourselves in different colored shirts or something. We also fight robot versions of ourselves, we don’t know why everyone we fight looks like us but we just go with it.
Chad Tf2: are class are all equal and we have very few problems with being overpowered and you can play any class I’m you want and win. vs vergan overwatch: if you don’t play 1 type of character the same you will lose the game no matter what you do also some of are charter are trash while some are super overpowered
Archives is great because it changes it up lore wise Blackwatch and Talon are basically evil and I adore that and Overwatch 2 will explore that. Characters in the game belomg to different groups and allegiamces which makes it awful that pvp is non canonical while tf2 has the genious to integrate all the nonsense of pvp limitations and gimicks into the story
It's hard to really look at Overwatch as heroes. I mean, they aren't villians (mostly), they saved humanity, but from what? Their main enemy, the omnic army, is made up entirely of sentient beings that were all told to commit suicide because their owners committed tax fraud. And the omnics fucking did it. They all turned themselves off, being told they were never going to wake up. Then unexplained mystery things happen and all the omnics get turned back on and suddenly want to fight instead of killing themselves. And, yeah. They probably should fight instead of just killing themselves.
