This may be my favorite episode of the podcast. It's SO easy to get focused on what's wrong in training "now" or get caught up comparing the hard puppy to our easy/perfect previous ones & loose sight of what's really important, our relationship & future :) thank you I REALLY needed this one today!!
All I can say about this podcast is WOW! Each one gets better and better and I can't wait to share it! It is so amazing how positive re enforcement dog training spills into human life and changes us for the better. Thank you So much Susan!
Thank you Susan for another amazing podcast, I think I’m addicted to them now 😂 Would you recommend a book or any source of how to teach a puppy (in my case 6 month old golden retriever) an alone time? I’ve been struggling with separation anxiety and purchased some books on the subject, but maybe you’ve a confirmed resource. Thank you!
Thank you for such a lovely note, Magdalena! Here's a video on starting for alone time: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IokYnQOAWVg.html
@@DogsThat Thank you! I’m a member of crate games program and recallers! 😂 Although I live in NY, I would love to participate some day in a live event or a camp! I’m happy to travel to Canada for this solely purpose
Susan, you are a Canadian, national treasure! Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom and skills, all along with your wonderful sense of humour and warmth. My young dog and I are learning so much from you. Students of Homeschool the Dog, Crate Training and making my way through your terrific podcasts! Thank you!! 😊
I would absolutely love to hear a podcast on enrichment, particularly what to do if your dog doesn’t want to engage in something. I feel like part of why I don’t give my dog more enrichment is she won’t necessarily engage with any given type of food puzzle on any given day. I have to really read the subtle signal she’s giving me, and then sometimes she’ll seem like she might be interested in something, and as soon as I put it down she’ll have a quick sniff and walk away. I find it really frustrating.
Perfect timing for this info. Thank you Susan! I have been bogged down feeling like my dog only loves me for the treats, which now I see is only partly true. and this pep talk from this podcast reminded me that no, my very active busy little duck Toller loves to sleep in the window seat and loves to be in her crate, and loves to walk beside me when we are approaching another dog at the off leash park, she loves to play agility and get the bouncing orb for the reward. My training has actually worked and reinforcing her good habits is so fun and helps reinforce my good habits.
Oh wow! This must be the best podcast so far. I’ve watched it twice and I still need to watch again to get all I can from it. Focus on the path not the obstacles, that’s a big one for me. The obstacles I have frighten me, and I do get emotional. I get triggered just like my dog. Work in the present and ask your dog, What do you need now? I love that. I’ve got lots of ideas now. Thank you again Susan.
Thank you this is such an important conversation about puppy needing downtime and learning to be on their own. Your comments re enforces any doubt to me about doing this regularly.
Oh my gosh...the ego thing and focus on outcomes...all of this! Over a year ago when we started in lockdown, I took a good look at myself as I started online training. I decided in that moment to be open to feedback, no matter what I thought I knew. Since that moment, I have learned SO much!
Thank you! I have pretty much stopped “formally” training with my puppy 3 months ago. He’s only 7 months but has had some behavioral difficulties and it has just been so overwhelming. We do the basics but I get frustrated every day because of how much there is to train. So thank you for this. Thank you. It’s so hard to take it one day and one behavior at a time
Good morning!!! Yes! I love this. I always tell my clients to clear their mind before working with their dogs, thinking about the obstacles your dog has to overcome only creates more obstacles.
Thank you for the encouragement, this podcast will be a repeat for me to stay present while training and enjoy my time with my which is the reason I joined in the first place.
