Just stumbled upon this video. Very interesting facts in the beginning that I definitely didn't know. I rarely play tank and I only get to gold, probably for reasons like this, since I am definitely someone who plays Dva wrong. I always thought I have to be the one who dives in and so Dva rarely worked for me.
Yeah - credit where it's due, ofc that's why I think DVa is so sneaky difficult. Because although it's optimal if you're not the initiator for the dive, and instead you're the follow-up - you're often still forced to initiate dives especially in 5v5 because being the only Tank means no-one else is gonna do it usually. I guess I'll put it like this - it's less it's dumb to initiate on DVa, and more you gotta know why you're doing it. It's good to dive someone out of position, and it's good to dive someone if you get a guaranteed close-range 1v1 without any other enemies getting in the way. It's bad to just go *OOO widow* and charge into the enemy backline 1v5. 😅 Whereas if you're a good Winston, Ball, or Doomfist, depending on how skilled you are and the timing you do it, that can be worth if it creates an opening for your team or you have the ability to make it back alive. The tough one is the 3rd one though, which is I would say that it can be good to initiate the dive as DVa, if you've already exhausted all other alternatives and something just needs to happen, or you'll be stuck where you are forever. Sometimes you'll just miss your window, or never even get a window, and kinda have to try brute forcing things - not even necessarily because it's likely to work, but more because it at least forces people to react and change, which creates more chances for you to spot a mistake to punish. In a weird way, I guess trying to brute force it as DVa is kinda like your "re-roll" button.😅 I got unlucky, and the enemies have left me no windows or opportunities to attack... So I'm gonna just charge right into them and make something new happen to see if I can spot any mistakes with the new positions. It's a last resort, but if it's necessary I think it can be good. Ultimately though above all else, I just think if you're gonna play DVa you gotta be hyper-aware of your surroundings and super quick to react and decide. You saw in this video, that Soldier was only onscreen for like half a second, but diving that Soldier was this guy's only chance at pushing through 1st point alive. Unfortunately, because it was too quick, and they were too indecisive - they missed the one and only window the enemy team gave them and was forced to brute force their way in. It works here thankfully, but it was clearly a lot... _messier..._ than maybe it needed to be...
