There is no doubt that Owen Farrell is one of the most hated players in rugby. This is video is dedicated to moments he would like to forget... #Rugby #RugbyFail #EpicFail
0:58 “Farrell, one of the best defenders out there” ha ha ha ha! Look how high he goes into every tackle - even if he doesn’t get bounced it’ll be a high tackle.
Even when Farrell parks his shoulder in the face of his opponents, he sometimes gets whacked. Deservedly so, the guy's tackling technique simply is off.
It's amazing though hardly surprising that in the first tackle in the clip Farrell tries to stick his shoulder into the opponents head, of course it doesn't work this time but it's clear he tries it.
What about the World Cup in England and his shoulder charge on the Australian winger where he was sent off and his country was knocked out of its own World Cup …without making the finals! I think he could take all the other embarrassment twice over if he could just eliminate that piece of stupidity! Just prior to getting the red card he was looking at the ref like… what’s this all about then, I did nothing wrong!
you'd think as England skipper and being one of the best players in the world, he'd surely be able to tackle well. sadly not, sometimes makes me feel disappointed to have such a player as our country's captain.
I think he can tackle extremely well - but there are occasions where his desire to dominate and hit hard means he loses form. Id rather have that, than a player who can't wont tackle. He is a bellend though, of that there is no doubt - but a talented one
Quite disappointed that such a public commentator is an armchair supporter that doesn't watch Farrell in his regular games where he's usually a great tackler
@ 1:18 Farrell didn’t “completely miss time” that “tackle” he knew what he was doing, Farrell should not be playing Rugby Union for England 🏴,let alone be captain, he is not the best kicker we have anymore, he isn’t the best leader of the team and he is to volatile, ask any referee who has had the misfortune to be in charge when he is playing. As an Englishman who loves the sport (union of course) I was angry when he retained his place in the squad for the World Cup, getting sent to the bin is one thing, being sent off is a very much a problem, especially when you are the England 🏴 Captain and you are suspended for the first game of the World Cup, luckily we had a far better kicker and vice captain to happily take over those two roles in the team/squad. You might get the impression that I don’t like Farrell, and you would be correct, not as a person, I don’t know him personally, but as a player I think he is not the best player we could have in his position, some people might say he is “passionate” about the game, I think he is to volatile and aggressive. A perfect example of my opinion displayed @ 2:32, he can dish it out but can’t take it.
Farrell certainly seems to polarises fans more than other players as you can see in the comments. Some like him and others really don’t. His tackling technique seems to be the focus for his detractors. Certainly he has made some questionable tackles in some high profile games but so have plenty of other players. The most common narrative is leading with the shoulder or not wrapping the arms. Certainly he has been rightfully been under the spotlight for this. But is it bad technique or just a Farrell problem Consider defending as a first receiver or guarding the #9 or #10 channel their role in defence is not necessarily to attempt a full tackle on a ball carrier breaking from the set piece but to bump relying on a forward to stop the runner. The idea is to slow the runner and stay on his feet to get into position as the ball is either recycled by the ball carrier or contested by the defender. This notion that a fly half should go low to tackle the opposing ball carrier down this channel and end up under a pile of players as the ball is recycled while he is out of position isnt entertained by any elite side from either NH or SH. This presents a real challenge under the new tackling law implementations and can be reflected in the increased number of carding of #10s or #12’s guarding this channel since 2022. Farrell supporters will point out his career discipline record and recognise his defensive successes such as in the lions tests in NZ or more recently on the last tour of Australia marshalling Kerevi. To his detractors none of this matters as they don’t like him anyway. Playing the devil’s advocate role I think defending at #10 off the set piece especially it is a real challenge. Do you bump the ball carrier and rely on a defending forward to complete the tackle or do you make the tackle. Many sides will pull out the #10 and replace him with the #12 for this purpose. Technically defending the#9/10 channel, you want to hit the lower chest, high enough to prevent the ball carrier from offloading the ball but not low as to get trapped in the melee as this ball is contested. The new tackle laws are there to reduce the height of the tackle. I think how this is reffed will be critical to all games from now. Personally whilst I acknowledge that Farrell has been loose in tackles and rightly received criticism, I also think that a lot of the venom directed at him by certain fans is ridiculous.
While the technobabble is commended, it's ultimately nonsense. A tackle is a tackle and a high tackle is just that as well. The only time a "half" tackle is reasonable is if you're between 2 players and need to be available if the ball is passed. Regardless, almost every single tackle from Farrel is performed with malicious intent, above the shoulders. The odd slip up from a player can be forgiven, but not when it's your go to move. He should be banned from rugby.
@@dianafife3964my guy farrel is horrible. 1) the amount of no arms high tackles is dangerous 2) his backchat, surprised he hasn't bored the refs to death 3) dirty player AND gets away with it all
Yes we have, but we aren't all supposed to be world class rugby players. That and the amount of maliciously high tackles the dude makes is disgusting. He should be banned, not just embarrassed.
Why? Is he your mom or what? The guy is a son of a bitch and I am happy players are actually out there trying to rip his head off. He must be one of the dirtiest players of the tour.
People are unlikely to stop hating him, but some things he's to blame for and some things he's not. He's pretty much the filthiest player in world rugby, so yeah, people are going to hate him for that, but they also hate him because he pretty much always gets away with it, and that's due to a monstrous failure with World Rugby in dealing with it (and almost certainly a degree of corruption in the difference between how various nations and players are treated)
