Hi Owen what's democratic about advertising as harassment & interruption of liberty to obtain information?I think 🤔 its immoral😢irritating, commercials also traumatic, random gaza relief footage with ambient music 🎶 begging after filming &editing..you don't have to reply Qwen be well!🇬🇧
Truth speakers always get some flak; they're likely incensed that they've lost their T-shirt journalist and much credibility with the working population. Staying well nonetheless I see.
I really don’t respect the British establishment. I have a First Class degree but apparently I’m braindead because I don’t agree with Alf Garnett (that character, btw, was intended as a pisstake)
@@Redsleatherit’s generally speaking a point of pride on the part of myself that I have never 100% agree with any book I’ve read. I’m pretty sure I can think for myself. However, I do frequently, not always, but certainly frequently, agree with Jones I don’t really see how he is a “snake” and tbh I don’t really see how playground insults “expose” anyone or anything except that some in the British establishment aren’t quite so sophisticated as they think (not that this comes as any surprise)
Dear Own, I'm 60 and I have voted Labour all my adult life and I find myself in exactly the same boat as you. Starmar 's stance on Palestine has broken my commitment to labour. His wavering fiscal policies that dam the country to a prolong financial hardship with a lack of funding for the core infrastructure that supports all members of our community, comes a poor second to the supported death of tens of thousands of humans who's lives matter as much as my own family. My wife and daughter feel the same and we do not know who to vote for. Fist time ever !
You are looking at it in completely the wrong way. Labour simply can’t win power on a Corbyn style tax and spend platform….the right wing media would destroy him If you want things to get better, get you are your family out to support Labour to win, it’s the only way to get these right wing populists out of power
Yes, our family are in a similar situation. It no alternative, I am ashamed to say, I will not vote as I am not represented by any of the mainstream populist parties. Ex Labour member an 40 years of voting.
@@adeelarshad5996 I see you are a bit simple so I will explain so that your little brain can appreciate that you and Jones are racist bigots. You ( and Jones ) ignore Putin’s genocide in Ukraine and Navalny’ murder recently but you complain about genocide. Just so you know child, October7th did happen and yes Israel retaliated. What did you expect? Did you think they would run away? YOU started a war and now you don’t like the consequences.
Exactly. I cannot believe the amount of people who back Labour to the hilt no matter what simply because they are “Labour”. Do some critical thinking everyone and have a look at whether they actually stand up for you, and not because they are red.
82% of people want higher NHS funding, 2/3rds want a ceasefire in Gaza, a majority support trans people's right to self ID, a majority support increasing taxes and spending... yet for some reason the "party of the people" is ignoring this reality to push the goals of the Starmer faction.
Sir Keir Starmer has changed the Labour Party as we knew it when Jeremy Corbyn was the Leader. It is no a conservative party which has rid itself of its roots in the trade union movement.
Ha ha ha seriously? I am a Private Eye reader and we employ real journalists and it regularly takes the Grauniad and its so called journalists to the sword. If you want proper journalists Richard Brookes Eye financial specialist, The late Paul Foot, The late John Pilger, Richard Ingrams, Francis Wheen etc. Mr Jones like JAB, Polly Toynbee. Jon Harris, Martha Gill and the rest are all middle class metropolitans. Who privately despise the working class, farmers, rural people etc etc. I use Private Eye and Reuters for my news not a rag like the Grauniad or Sun and Mr Jones is not a journalist but a commentator.
@chatham43 that'll be your lack of intelligence and gift to project 😂😂😂. But if it makes you feel better, crack on 😉. Maybe get a dictionary and look up each word to work out the meaning 😂😂😂. You'd fail the immigration test, by the way 😂😂 👊🏾✊🏾
All of Owen's jealous haters can sit around laughing but Owen is an outstanding humanitarian, activist, journalist who is making a serious difference to the world
I will vote Labour for my local MP because she’s been working hard for our town for over three decades but as for the PM, I’ll be looking for alternatives.
@@danikahholdman2609you don't get to vote on pm. That's not how it works. It's not America with a presidential system. If you vote for your labour candidate, you are voting for Starmer.
@@danikahholdman2609really? You're looking for an alternative. How does that work exactly? You can only vote for someine standing in your constituency. Unless that's Kier Starmer then you have no input.
Do you know "where he came from?" Ok, that sounds dumb, but I start to write half a novel when I want to ask him meself, I obviously being a newbie in 🍉 things, just stumbled over him, because I was listening, listening, watching and then reading and was like "Oh wow, someone who looks a bit younger compared to the people I have seen talking, writing, about the subject before!" And then, somewhere I saw an Interview with Mr Jones and I was like "Is he older than he looks like to be or did start extremely early in and with politics?" 🤭 🤭
@@AnnaC130insane that Owen is nearly 40! (Sorry for the reminder Owen) The man looks actually incredible for his age, I'm 27 and feel older than Owen 😢
@@RobinHarris-nf4yv I disagree. Most people on here disagree. Owen has laid out all these reasons why, there is no need for me to go over this here in the comments section.
Brother Owen, you have fans not only in Britain but in the United States as well. I am Chinese living in New York City, my friends and I consider you a great journalist and a decent person that we follow and support.
Didn't know that Owen was that much influential that his quitting the Labour Party makes it to the evening News 😉 Well done for standing up for humanity!
@@ElaineFisher-wq7ke yeah hardly mainstream. Owen Jones has wrecked his career because he has made himself a leader of a minority view echo chamber. It’s a shame as he is a talented journalist and he could’ve been a mainstream commentator
@@RobinHarris-nf4yv "A minority view echo chamber": are you referring to his description of Starmer's Labour Party as Tory-lite, by any chance? Or perhaps his condemnation of Israel's actions in Gaza? Either way, it's an echo chamber that is expanding, whereas yours, I suggest, has already lost the confidence of the majority of the population.
@@philroberts7238 1) “Tory lite” yup echo chamber trope. Its used by weak minded individuals who are going to vote green, splitting the Labour vote and thus helping the Conservatives, a dangerous right wing populist party to win power again 2) Starmer has condemned Israel’s actions many times, he has expressed that in every speech 3) polls show overwhelming support from the general public for voting Labour. The general public aren’t interested in the ideological self indulgent nonsense in left wing echo chambers. You are welcome to go and vote green and be totally irrelevant. Enjoy
“Those jokes never seemed to get old, kind of like my face I guess.” That had me laughing! Thank you, Owen! You are brilliant! I am so grateful for the work you do in exposing the corruption, graft, and inequity in our systems. Thank you!
I am an immigrant and I have always voted Labour. BUT NOT NOW. I am disgusted with labour’s stance on Gaza . You have taken a principled stand against genocide and against Labour’s lurch to almost exact Tory party’s horrible policies. Please carry on your brave work. 👏👏👏👏🇵🇸✌️✌️
Keir Starmer will win the next election and Labour will be in power…..people like Owen will be marginalised nobodies screaming into their echo chambers whilst Kabour get on with running the country
Smearing peoples opinions is one of the tools that our pathetic populist political system encourages. They try and smother people like Owen, as they do not care about ordinary people and justice.
Smeared only by cowards who shy away from the truth and hide behind their party's leader grovelling to keep their rotten job instead of stopping the genocide.
I didn't go with Owen initially when he left the Labour party, but seeing the contempt they're showing to the matter here, I think I'm out too. Such arrogance, if you didn't know they were Labour you'd assume they were tory MPs
Owen, please remember you are one of those who stand for Gaza, from the beginning! You are the one who made me believe again in humanity ✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺❤️🖐️🖐️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
To borrow a phrase; you know you're over the target when you're receiving intense flak. Thank you for your integrity and for your tireless, insightful, ethical journalism.
The fact that they're attacking you indicates your relevance & importance! While I don't know you personally, while watching your blogs and interviews, your thoughts, I've concluded that you represent justice, ethics, knowledge, and honesty. Please don't sway from your course. There are many people including myself that look forward to your comments and are happy to have your here.
Being able to disagree is the bedrock of democracy and free speech, something Tories are trying to remove and which Labour are doing nothing to vote down or repeal as a pledge.
Keep going Owen! Since ukip and Farage politics and our media have been pulled to the right so we desperately need people pulling back towards the left. ✊
I've heard of you Owen, I've recently written a critical review assignment based on your article: Putin's Brutal War Is the moment for Britain to change it's attitude to all refugees. You're an amazing journalist, and the fact that you always go at both sides of parliament is going to be a thorn in labours side, they don't want outspoken, historically connected through family lineage members, because people like, yourself want labour to represent what the party originally stood for, whilst many of todays members of labour on parliament want the money the Tories have taken advantage of for 14 years, sending everything we earn as a nation elsewhere. I don't support any party and never have, I come from a poor background and anyone in my circles or people I meet at my class level of society have had enough of this theatre show they call government. Be strong dude, if you don't have haters then you're doing something wrong, I've never heard of any of these people taking aim at you in this video, lots of people have heard of you, keep going 💪.
Sadly Owen, at 74 and having supported the Labour Party since my teens, I tore up my membership card around 5-years ago. The writing was on the wall that Starmer and his supporters were going to move to the right and effectively become a right-wing anti-progressive party of the establishment. I think I’ve been proved right on all counts. His front bench have put individual gain before valued principles. I admire you for standing up for your progressive socialist values, it’ll probably cost you dearly as the party henchmen/women come after you. Stay strong comrade.
The fact that these critics of Owen have to resort to insults and never engage with the substance of his arguments tells you everything you need to know tbh. Utterly shameful.
It's so clear that all they say comes directly from the sicknesses of their own souls. Owen, try not to waste time reflecting on it. Be on guard against your own ego, and keep working for Truth.
Here here Owen! I too left the Labour party for pretty much the same reasons, and the main one the lack of opposition to the Genocide happening live in Gaza, and therefore being complicit. I love all your videos keep up the great work!!!
Much as some of us on the left have been critical of some of your positions, Owen Jones, your presence and challenge to the mainstream political/media elite is always appreciated.
Much love to you, Owen 💜 It sounds like a bunch of bullies with no real arguments and no capacity for defending their opinions without resorting to insults. A lot of us agree with you and are grateful for your courage and ethics 👏🏽👏🏼👏🏻 All my support from Basque Country, big hug 💚
Owen...you're a legend. Keep doing what you're doing. You have a lot of support amongst the real people of this country. I've sent countless videos of yours to so many people.
I applaud your decision to leave the Labour party _and_ the reasoning behind it. The current Labour party isn't the same party you believed in, trusted, and loved for so long & it doesn't represent you or your values anymore. Recently, I realised it was time to make a similar change in my own life. So I can sympathise _and_ empathise with you & your current situation. Just know that you're not alone; there are people who respect you & believe you're on the right side of history (once again). 💞✊️ Solidarity!! I'm 43, and ever since I 1st registered to vote (a few days after my 18th birthday), the party affiliation on my voter registration had always been "Democrat". For *_exactly_* 25 years & 1 month I was a registered Democrat. Last week, for many of the same reasons you left the Labour Party (among other personal & USA centric reasons), I changed the party affiliation on my voter registration to "Unaffiliated". (That basically means "Independent" in my home state.) The I$r@3l-P@le$tine-US-G@z@ situation and my country's/government's involvement & complicity in the ongoing g*noc1d3 in G@z@ & the 3thn1c cle@n$1ng of G@za and the W3$t B@nk is what finally broke me. Politically, from what I've come to understand about you & your personal political ideology, I'm _much_ further to the left than you seem to be (that's not an insult). My political ideology is generally considered to be in the _very_ bottom _far_ left corner of the "political compass". However, because the US is essentially a 2 party system (much like the UK), I've always voted for Democrats from the top to the bottom of every ballot I've ever cast (progressives whenever possible). That's not necessarily going to be the case from here on out. I know I won't be voting for Republicans or right-wing policies/ballot initiatives, but as far as anything/anyone else is concerned there's no guarantee as to who/what I'll vote for/against in the future. Marianne Williamson or Dr. Cornel West will probably be my POTUS pick in 2024 & I'll be individually assessing every other candidate & initiative on the ballot before deciding who (or what) to vote for (or against) in every election I participate in from now on. There will probably be no more straight Democrat votes on my ballots, starting with the upcoming 2024 elections. If I have to leave some ballot entries blank because there's nobody (or nothing) I'm willing to vote for (or against) in certain races or on particular ballot initiatives, then so be it. I'll vote according to my conscience & I won't vote for anything else if that's not an option. No substitutes will be accepted.
Owen has hit a nerve and the personal attacks are sadly predictable. I appreciate that he has a point of view and is a lot more consistent and honest than most journalists.
How sad and shameful that they couldn’t be decent adults and thank you for all the work you’ve done on behalf of the Labour Party and express sadness that you have made this decision. They couldn’t acknowledge what a difficult decision this was for you or express a wish for you to return at some point in the future. If I hadn’t already left the party several years ago I’d be leaving now. Smug plops that they are!
Fair play. You must have seen right through him right from the start. I see it now. I see it so clearly. Never has there ever been a more obvious Tory plant in the history of the Labour party. He doesn't even hide his right-wing allegiances - to Thatcher, to the billionaire elite, to the monarchy...
We all are put off by labour but you definitely did great in keeping the genocide in the headlines as alot media have kept it quiet and debate it like it should be. Great job !
I chucked my membership just after watching your video about you resigning your membership. I'd been wanting to leave for ages, but you got me over the line.
Don't worry Owen. The tories are facing obliteration and Labour are hot on their heels. It may take a few years, but the process is underway. People are sick to death of the Uni-Party.
Hi Owen, I have been following your discussions on the Israeli Genocide in Gaza and have a great deal of respect for the work you do in bringing honest journalism to those willing to listen. You have been one of few reasonable voices in a hateful conversation. All the best mate
it because of people like these that i have left the country to live somewhere else. Hats off to you Owen for standing up for what you believe in, few do this.
Mark Twain's quote, "Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect," Think Owen Jones is fully au fait with this one and quite rightly lives by it. Such is life.
Are they? If Owen cared about the people of this country he would campaign heavily for Labour to win, and once they were in power, he could campaign heavily to push Labour to enact the policies he wants.
@@RobinHarris-nf4yvThis. All day long. The idealist rationale here only wins out in a political system that’s fit for purpose. Ours isn’t and whilst Labour MIGHT not change that, the Tories absolutely WONT change it.
Being taken down by a stream of nobodies engaging in self congratulatory back slapping must be hard to deal with... Thoughts and prayers Owen. Excelsior to you
Open your eyes and ears folks Martin Lewis talks about trust and honesty The Labour Party particularly Starmer and Lammy have lost my trust.Any other Labour MPs who don’t speak out are complicit in their dishonesty .
How can you be accused of self interest, when you left a party who either a) think genocide is acceptable, or b) dont think genocide is acceptable, but choose to keep quiet for the benefit of furthering theitlr own careers?
Such toxic, unprofessional and disgusting people. This is why people delete themselves especially those who spend decades in such disgusting and toxic environments.
I wouldn't worry dude. Literally every one of these people are grifters. Let's revisit this in a couple of years and see how many scandals this motley crew can embroil themselves in.
Critics are "ad hominem" when they have no other arguments. I thought the best thing was when everyone just laughed: They didn't even have arguments for an "ad hominem" at that moment 😂🙃😵🤯 keep it up, Owen, we love you, you give us hope in this corrupt and infinitely stupid world ❤️🙏💯🤯
The pettiness of the criticism and critics is staggering yet not surprising. Seems having integrity and principles go over the heads of these plastic plonkers. As you said it’s because they know you’re right. They really are pathetic.
I'm the same age as you and have NOT consistently voted Labour, was only a member during Corbyn and have always been to the left of the party in my lifetime. Glad you came over :)
Owen, you’re one of the bravest left wing voices out there. I for one appreciate you taking the establishment to task. This is playground bullying indeed. Very childish stuff but I wouldn’t expect anything less from the dark grubby corners of the internet. Keep going Owen.
Graham Hughes from Labour Social acted like a frothy, overexcited version of James Cordon in his retort...it was uncomfortable to watch...he actually thinks he's funny but he's like that kid on the bus on the school trip that won't shut up and has to go sit next to the teacher.
He and that other one on Labour Social consistently resort to witless personal attacks on anyone who doesn't toe the Starmerite line. I guess its easy to feel over-defensive when you own an island, stood for the Lib Dems as recently as 2018 and are faced with people who have dedicated years of their lives to working class struggle in the Labour Party
I couldnt finish watching, Owen. These people are awful. I have only found your platform in the last few months, but absolutely love your forthright and direct manner, and your attention to detail. The second fella, Hugo, tried to imply that you are irrelevant, that is simply not true. The only reason they need to attack you is because you are so very relevant. The best revenge is to keep doing what you have always done, and speak your truth to a world that desperately needs it. Cheers from Canada!
The Green Party are standing candidates in every constituency in England and Wales for the first time in electoral history - Labour shouldn't be counting any chickens. They're also dreaming if they think Scotland is even remotely interested in Starmerism, which to us would be Sunakism, without the SNP there to mitigate and attempt to turn us loose!
They'll open the door for the far-right to take power in this country if they don't do anything substantial. I wouldn't be overly surprised if in 5-10 years, we have an openly fascistic government in power because Labour didn't offer anything new and there was no viable left-wing alternative.
Just watched a report on how the tories are trembling in fear of reform. That is exactly where we want labour and if reform can do it. If George Galloway can bring out the number 10 podium for one win how much influence can we build with even more. Labour will win the GE but how big will its majority be and what policies will they have?
The ad hom attacks are really weird. I watched your newsagents interview and people saying they know you're right but hate agreeing with you. People will find any reason to justify their cognitive dissonance.
This video concisely captures the puerile nastiness that permeates mainstream media; credit to Owen, as ever, for taking the bewildering contempt of these cliques in his stride; the lack of self-awareness on the part of those behaving this way speaks volumes... Embarrassing!
