My dad never did anything to make sure I was OK. This song hit my heart, and hit it hard. I'm crying like a baby right now. My parents first divorced when I was 8, got back together, then divorced again. I've had to move at least once or twice each year. Owl City understands the pain, that's why they write songs like this. If it weren't for the internet, I would probably not be here right now making this comment. After my dad divorced for a second time, I was ready to die. But then I started watching inspirational videos, and now I'm here, living, crying my eyes out, but living. Thank you,

My stepfather passed away about a year and a half ago from a very complicated case of multiple myeloma. I can very much relate to this song. One thing I love about the comments: everyone is so supportive and caring, kind of the opposite of what's expected of RU-vid. Thanks for making our days, guys. I'm bawling like a baby right now. Adam managed to make me cry in less than five minutes with such a song. I applaud the rather swift way he makes this stuff remarkably depressing but hopeful. This is no doubt the most powerful of the four in the EP, and my favorite.

with his Christian influence as well it also what God does, you could be carrying a lot of baggage (emotions, physical, etc.) but if you reach out to God he take it all and theres hope in life again, even though you may go through hard times you just have to give it to God and trust that his plan is great and know he's always watching. Things happen for a reason . (as a Christian and i'm pretty sure Adam is a Christian too I assume this is his way of sharing the gospel to others as well :)

My jaw dropped when I heard this song. My dad left a week after I went to college, but even though I was 18, I could have been eight for all the pain it caused. He still thinks it's no big deal since he tries to stay in touch, but I can't describe to him the betrayal. Thank you, Adam, for creating a song that helped me realize that time heals.

That's true, his lyrics tends to be melancholic with those glimmers of hope. But he creates beats that are more happy and dreamy on purpose to sort of mask it. Most of his songs tend to be about a dreamer fighting against the harshness of reality and maintaining that hopeful perspective with the help of God. But this song delivers the melancholy more directly than his other songs did, so it does feel sadder for sure. It's also a heavier topic and he said it was inspired by his mother's experience.

I love this song but I break into tears every time I listen to it. I never personally related because none of my family members have committed suicide, but the message of suicide and parents leaving is still personal. “This isn’t the end” is literally what I tell myself whenever I feel suicidal, I play this song, cry it out, then hop back up.

Guys. If you all think that all of Adam's songs sound like fireflies.. Why are you complaining? Fireflies is an AMAZING song, and basically if you guys are saying that it's just like Fireflies, than you're basically also saying: This song is truly amazing and is a piece of art. All of his songs are meant to touch people's hearts, not to go off into the mainstream of media, this type of music is his safe spot where he can express how HE feels without someone telling him HOW he feels. :P

I agree. I love Fireflies. I hardly buy any secular music at all. Just Christian stuff. And I was willing to buy the song before I even knew he was a Christian artist. It was just that awesome of a song for me. I can absolutely not wrap my head around, people not liking it. When I found out he was a Christian though, it made so happy.

Even though I can't fully relate to this personally, it still hits so deep. Such a gorgeous, gentle, melancholy, and yet hopeful song. This song is incredibly emotional. Dark but hopeful, which is something that Adam is a master at. He left it a little rough, too; his voice breaks a few times, at the very end you hear him lift his fingers off the keyboard (or release the sustain pedal on the piano, I can't tell). That makes it so much more personal and real.

Owl City still knows his roots. This song may be depressing, but it's meant to be. This song is based on Adam's mother's childhood, with her dad leaving his family. I know of sad songs. Say Something, See you Again, etc. But Owl City's sad songs GO STRAIGHT TO MY HEART

I wish he would accept me and I wish he wouldn't make my mom feel like she's walking on pins and needles when he's around. My Parents are getting a divorce. My dad wouldn't change. They both want different things in life. My mom won't have to face verbal abuse from him anymore but it's still sad. I had an alcoholic father growing up. He and I made up when I moved out and became an adult. He was my best friend and every day I find more and more that he's positively influenced my life more than I could've imagined. He drowned in a boating accident that me and my brother were a part of when we were 22, but survived. I miss him so much.

I don’t know if this or Beautiful Times is the best off of Ultraviolet. This EP seems almost forgotten, and it’s a shame; IMO, it delivered the most real, genuine, and raw passion Adam Young ever delivered through any of his past songs. I’d love to hear more like this.
