I agree I don’t think I’ll like the book but your Owl Crate version is much nicer than the Fairyloot edition I received.

Aw I'm sorry that Fairloot's edition wasn't as great as the OwlCrate's version. But sorry for both of us that this book doesn't seem like a winner for us 😭

I'm looking forward to this book. I forgot to cancel my Amazon preorder so I had the original edition in my hands and I have to say I actually liked it more. I love OC but this one didn't wow me and the endpaper images are so dark.

I just started reading it and I'm pleasantly surprised! Very much enjoying it and hope you do as well 💕 And yes, the endpaper artwork is SO dark, would have liked it to be a bit brighter so we could see more details.

Doesn't sound like one I'd enjoy either. Like the hardcase much better than the dust jacket. I know Owlcrate has mentioned something in the past about not a lot of publishers in the US that do stenciled edges so that's why they don't do a lot...but that was probably 2 or 3 years ago. At some point, they'll have to catch up with European publishers, I'd imagine. I HATED Witches Steeped in Gold. It took me almost 4 months to read it because I just could not get into it. I really wanted to. The makings of a good book were there but not in a good way. It's one of the few OC books I've been tempted to get rid of but the re-sale value has not been worth the effort. I did just finish Silver in the Bone and while it took about 100 pages for me to get into it, I really did enjoy it and am looking forward to the sequel.

Oh I didn't realize that the stenciled edges is not something that many US publishers do. However I do feel like that is changing as you can get a few books on Amazon now with stenciled edges and Bookish Box does it pretty consistently and they are a US based special edition company. OwlCrate does need to get on board! Right?! OMG Witches Steeped in Gold is SUCH a disappointment! You are absolutely right that it has all the workings for a good novel but then just didn't deliver. It's kind of torture to read and I've been debating about DNFing it. Oh nice! Silver in the Bone also took me a few chapters to get into but agree that it was overall a positive experience and I'm looking forward to the conclusion! I believe it is just a duology which is nice.

@@nikkilovesbooks I think Silver in the Bone is a duology too. I used up most of my points remaining to get the matching book from OC. They've had a few special editions this spring that I've wanted and those point definitely help make the editions more affordable! I re-read my review on Witches and I still agree with my critiques: The main character is not likeable and the author kept on throwing words together that I knew the meaning of individually, but not put together by the author. She was trying to world build but didn't define anything so it made sense in her world at all! I kept on telling myself to DNF it, but really wanted to find that 5 star book I was seeing so many reviews about. But life is too short, DNF it if you are not enjoying it! I guess I didn't realize Bookish Box was based in the US. Hmm. If they can do it, why CAN'T OwlCrate?! I have noticed a lot more sprayed edges than usual coming out of the publishers and into the stores/Amazon... I guess technically OC is from Canada but I know their warehouses are in the US, would that make a difference? I have noticed that OC's stenciled edged books definitely have a unique shape to them-heavier/more squared up, so I think they only use one particular manufacturer for them. Hmm, I may have to see if I can figure out how many publishers are using stenciled edges now here...I mean, Fourth Wing's publisher puts them out, but in semi-smaller batches (or at least they used to before that blew up last summer) but I don't think it's the same place OC uses.

@@LJG7654 I LOVE that OC has reward points, seriously helps with the cost of the books! And lol, yes, your points on Witches are so true, it had so much potential but it just failed. You are so right and I gave myself permission to just DNF the damn book. Its so disappointing tho but yes, no need to torture myself with bad books. And yes, Bookish Box is based in Arizona so they are a US company. However, you make a valid point that OC often utilizes publishers and I wonder if the publisher is responsible for the actual printing of the books or if OwlCrate picks the manufacturers. I know that Bookish Box, like a few other Book sub companies, print their books in China, which is why several of them are behind schedule as the suppliers are not getting products out quickly enough, there are paper shortages, and then shipping delays from manufacturer to the warehouse in the states. Perhaps OwlCrate has their books printed elsewhere and aren't capable of stenciled edges but it may explain why they (typically) don't have major shipping delays like BB and other companies that print their books in China. I want OC books to come with stenciled edges tho 😭

@@nikkilovesbooks Those points are really helpful, aren't they? I've used them for about 5 or 6 special editions now, though I think I'm almost out. I always got bonus ones for posting on insta too though that stopped when they stopped the challenge there. I should remember make a post when I get my YA book each month just to keep collecting. I wonder if you hit on the reason! That makes a lot of sense that publishers in the US are slow to add machinery to add the stenciled edges and that's what OC is using. I really do like stenciled edges, but I guess I want on-time books more... But it is hard when you see other companies managing to do them so well for similar pricing!

@@LJG7654 Lol, the dilemma of do we want books relatively on-time or uber beautiful books 😬😩😱😭 It is so hard, I just don't understand why we can't have both 🥺
