Tiggy's not mean, he's scared, and probably trying to scare off anything that might be a threat. It'll take some patience and training to bring him around, this is probably just the first part.

lol, we're making maaany emergency U-turns on our walks. Our dog is highly reactive (insecure around other dogs and barks and raises hackles and stuff), and we're trying BAT-training. Basically, if the dog spots anything that's triggering and reacts just a little to it, we stop and wait, letting him watch it. Then we praise, give treats and turn away. Trying to refocus and train him that other dogs are a good thing. The goal is to have him react less and less, and with time be able to get closer and closer to other dogs without getting an over-the-top reaction. He does seem a bit calmer since we started it, but it takes time.

@@Shoonam He's a very reactive dog, so we're doing all we can. And I think he'd react very badly with negative methods like aversion. He's fearful enough. Don't know how he got that way, but he's making progress. We've had him for 10 weeks only and he's 2,5 years old. :)

@@justs0phie250 It's important to socialize your dog when it's a puppy and it's important to take it easy and give them time to process the situation (aka, if the puppy stops or sits down to just watch, let them). Let them meet nice other dogs, and play and stuff. Also, reward your puppy with toys or treats when they do what you want them to do. Like walking past another dog without barking or pulling the leash. Do it early and you might not need help later.

My grandmother had a toy poodle and she was mean. No one could get close to her, not even my grandpa. Fifi, the poodle, was a big nipper too.

Poodles are usually very gentle dogs. Everyone is crossing everything with them because they do usually have sweet ,smart temperaments plus non shedding coats. That little one was very fearful.

We are trying to get my sisters dog to sleep in her own bed, she doesn’t know anything about training but I watch dog videos , first we put a treat on the bed and made her lay down, we tapped the bed to show to go there. We then repeated that and once she got it down we tapped the bed and she stayed there. We rewarded with a treat and walked away to see if she would stay. She did and then we gave her a treat. She sleeps in it every night now

As an owner and dog walker of miniature Poodle mixes ( I feel they have this issue in common ) I would love to have seen the entire episode here. Because just learning the U turn technique and not showing what happens when other dogs/triggers come around , left me wanting to see this play out.

Please don't vilify all poodles. I had a toy poodle for 19 years and haven't been able to get another dog since he passed. Best dog EVER he loved children other dog's cat's rabbits etc... It's up to the owner and good breeders to make a good dog...

My dog does this but by her body language i know shes scared. She was bite by a older and larger male dog once when she was little and has been scared ever since. I have trained her from when we got her and all and she has got loads os socialisation as a puppy from her mother and the other dogs houses. I tried everything and tried the treats her favourite food toy etc and nothing seems to work if anyone could give me suggestions or tips i would really appreciate it a lot. Thank you

One thing you need to think about is when to treat. If you treat when your dog has already started reacting, you are actually rewarding that behaviour. Watch the dog's body language and the second it starts to show signs of reaction, turn away and reward for being with you. Then turn back and do the same again. Gradually you should be able to get closer without reaction - but don't push the dog, take it steady. Also helps if you know someone with a stable dog who doesn't react back at yours. You may be feeling nervous yourself knowing that your dog will react. Try not anticipating it - your confidence will help the dog. Act normal but be watchful.

I would like to use these Victoria's tips but my dog is deaf, so I can't use my voice to communicate during walks. Usually I use handsigns with him but when he sees another dog, I'm the last thing he looks at...

Seek pro help but an ear touch or something similar might help, as long as it doesn't frighten the dog or cause redirection

Nice start, but need to add the distraction of a dog and try again. He will likely be over threshold and distance needed or another technique. These snipets of episodes are a tease and too short to see the final product and other challenges 😑 need to see from start to finish for owners to try these techniques and learn themselves, when it DOES not work, how to prevent or handle the situation when the dog is also in a more aroused state.

These not teasers, there clips. Theres only so much they can show in a clip because of licensing. It a tv show aired in the uk, you wont be able to just watch full episodes for free on youtube.

This is not a step by step dog training tutorial. This is not a free course on dog training. And if you want that content, there are hundreds upon hundreds of such videos if you just use the damn search bar.

If your dog wasn't trained as a puppy, please train it as a adult. Even if you have to pay for classes

@@justs0phie250 My favorites on RU-vid are, besides Victoria, Kikopup, and McCann dogs. Dogs are so smart and it's actually really fun to train them. And remember that socialization is not just dogs or strangers. It's also situations, sounds, places, etc.

It's really just a fact of how knowledgeable the owners are, and how much socialization the dog has had as a puppy. It's really easy now-a-days, just look it up on your browser or watch a dog/puppy training video on RU-vid. Not that hard, people!

If people do a good thing and take a dog from a rescue shelter, mostly they ( the dogs ) got already bad habits, or miss a good education. So it's a good thing too, to teach him with the help of a trainer.

Lol! Cesar Milan would have trained this dog in a mater of minutes and Viitoria cant even prove her metods near any of distractions for the dog. Doesnt even explain about leash reactivity, exercise, bad energy of owner, bad hadling, use of harnes for reactive dog (makes even worse). These videos are so lame and never proven by dogs behavior change after Victorias training (I think its becauso of hardly any efficiency)

This is only a 4-minute clip from the full episode and when Cesar is working with a dog, it's all punishment/force and intimidation. Suppressing a dog's behavior so they stop doesn't change how the dog feels. Behavior is like an iceberg- The behavior is just the 10% of what you see on the surface above the water and the emotion driving the behavior is the 90% of the iceberg underwater that you can't see. You have to address the emotion behind the behavior to help the dog feel differently. Addressing just the behavior and punishing it will not solve the problem long term. When a person goes to therapy for anxiety, PTSD, etc. they are not "fixed" in a matter of minutes or days- it's a process.
