I've had this car for about 3 years.. and it's been good as gold.. points to take on board are: keep an eye on the oil, (if it gets too low and it goes quick compared to other cars I've had) you will get turbo failure.. torque steer is brutal if your rip it (contrary to what our man said). Get a re-map and it will bring bhp up to 305. Watching golf and ST drivers in your rear view is nice too. Underrated car for sure.

I have 2013 Mazdaspeed 3 and I absolutely love it! I've got a custom full exhaust, K&N short ram intake, and corksport springs. With the exhaust and intake it sounds amazing. The exhaust has a nice rumble and you can really hear the turbo with the intake. If I had to pick again I would go with the MS3 all day. Really enjoyed the vid btw.

I own a 2010 MkII 3 MPS in black (love the colour, hate detailing it though lol) with one mod: CorkSport REM. I was surprised at how much of a difference that made to handling and how it improved the way power is put down, especially when launching!
i had typhoon intake, cork turbo pipe, forge bov, hpfp plus remap=320hp in my car. uprated engine mounts a must as engine moves under torque 2nd and 3rd pulls. Car is limited boost in lower gears but pulls in 6th all day long.Bit faster than st and vxr and alot rarer. liked my debadged mk1 as looked just like normal mazda3 and surprised most people who didnt know
its a great car because it doesnt really shout about itself like the st and vxr do.... so people are surpised when you give it a boot no your keep up with them or leave in your rear view mirror. great review again but
I'm not sure if someone already told you , but there still is a spare tire they didn't pull it because of the sub, the sub sits right in the middle and the wheel is around, at least that's how it is in my '13 speed
I do love Mazdas. Picked up a 2007 Mazda 3 Sport - 2.0L engine, 147bhp, pretty good for a first car. Goes when you need it to, very comfy, Bose speakers are great and it looks good too :)
I have a gen 1 MPS aero addition which comes standard with eibach springs and shocks its slightly lower due to the eibach set up and comes with the rear spoiler and wing mirrors having owned 3 Subarus a ep3 type r and a st220 mondeo the MPS is by my favourite car you got sti power in a hot hatch with a bulletproof engine (if looked after correctly) servicing is a little different from your sts and vxrs it's every 7k as we speak now mines in the garage having its vvt chain changed it's on 80k that is expensive but one thing to look for if you want to buy one other then that only thing really they chew though is track rod ends there is tonnes of stuff out there to buy for the cars you have corksport jbr versatune cobb whiteline agreed you will have to do your home work to find the best tuning company's to work on yours as they are not to many but the people that are out there are fantastic tuners that no what there doing ho and just go back to what parts fail fuel pump internals will need uprating other then that I drive mine to work every day 70 mile trip every day costs me around 50 quid a week in fuel which if you don't as well the MPS can only be ran on 99 even as standard form but to me that's fine in essence you got a totally different hot hatch from any person it's a car that will get you to 0 to 60 in 5.9 seconds it will embarrass much more expensive cars i.e. My mates 350z 😂 335i BMW bose sound system really nice seats which are as well anti whip lash go try one and I bet you will be surprised great review as well 👍

I am the current owner, gen 1, look like a normal non turbo car, many ppl don't even know Mazda 3 has a turbo, stock 190kw is enough without any mod, no trouble from picky cop, those guys chasing hot hatch power they never try the mps, once they got the taste, they want another want for spare, I drive turbo modified front wheel drive all my life, but the mps is unique power delivering on stock, no more defect, no more harassment from cops, get ecuteck tune to unlock the limited torque limit gear 1-2 in factory ecu due to average driver can't handle, when you unleash the 1-2 gear power limit it is a beast without a single modification. This car build to handle the power, all heavy duty parts are factory, keep it stock, take out the mps badge, and giver other car a drag, they will get the surprise, this car fit me perfectly, it is not boring and a little wild but controlled beast, traction control is great, abs, stability control etc...are aids to make it safer, it is such a refine tNe beast, won't drive anything else. Oh if keep it stock and floor it everyday it still not as thirsty as the skyline or wrx, that is the beauty of the 3 mps, sleeper, power, economy.
Had my 2010 3 MPS for four years now, loved every minute of it. Running 350whp 😁 The internals are actually good for up to 500bhp and the K04 turbo is shit, the seals won't last especially when you up the boost. BNR or Corksport turbo is the best upgrade for a direct drop in turbo
What have you had done to your car? I'm tempted to start playing around with mine once the warrenty runs out. I know the hpfp has to be done first and I'll prob get that done soon anyway just to be on the safe side. I know there are loads of things on forums but it'd be good to get some info off an actual owner of a high up one.
Hi Ryan. A great place to learn is the MPSOC forums as we have tuning guides etc, there's also the MPSOC Announcement group on FB which is linked to the forums, it's well worth signing up and introducing yourself they are a great bunch of guys and girls 😊 For my car is followed the usual advised route for mods. Uprated BNR Supercars S3 turbo, Autotech HPFP pump internals, turbo back exhaust, J2 Racing downpipe, CP-E top mount intercooler, HTP 3" intake and turbo inlet combo, 3 port EBCS boost module and mapped by DDJUT off the forums. That puts it around the 380bhp mark with with similar torque figures. On top of that I run a Dual Vented set of oil catch cans to relieve the excess crank pressure of running more boost, updated JBR engine mounts, and upgraded rubber all round.
I thought about getting one of these, the power torque and the huge specs as standard made it very appealing the £500 tax put me off a bit though, maybe I'll return to one in the future.
Hi Jamie, I've had a Mk1 MPS. Really good car, currently looking at the MK2 now. So pleased you didn't make a song and dance about torque steer! Mine did not suffer with it at all. I had a BBR map on mine with exhaust so would have been approx 300bhp and 330lb/ft. Do have a look at BBRs tuning packages for this car, go up to and over 400bhp.
the reason they are similar to the focus is because its the same chassis ;-) . . also the gen2's didnt have an options list they all came fully loaded. :)

I own a 2013 mps and it’s heavy on fuel I recently done a 500 mile round trip and it too a full tank plus another 20 litres .. yes it has been remapped to stage 2 with 420 bop and some extras and only likes super plus fuel but cant fault it good all round car ps quicker than the focus rs 👌😄
Excellent reviews I'm trying to decide what car I want next. MPS is up there, I love it's looks and from the video I've grown more fond of them. Just a bit of a stinger on road tax unfortunately for me!
did ecutek with k&n intake,corksport ic..got 285 whp on ron 95, suprisingly it improved the fc..other than the torque steer, the engine is the jewel on this car veryresponsive from low down..stock internals will do 350hp,after that the rods can break and lots of engine movements tend to go through engine mounts quite often in fwd form .seeing the engine in the rs at 350 hp tune and awd, rs must be an awesome car..
When the first MPS3 came out in 2007 it was sooooo damn quick. Even stock STIs and Evos weren't as quick from a roll. Still a very fast car, but others certainly catched up between the years, yet Mazda did nothing. Still a nice hot hatch though!
yeh, hopefully they do something neat with the new skyactiv 2 engines. They sound kinda gimmicky but imo the MPS3 needs AWD. The power is limited alot, a tune and a few boltons will easily blow away nearly everything in its competition.
these are great cars, real sleepers compared to your VXR's ST's and GTi's. in a straight line I'm sure a mps would give the other hot hatches a good run for there money.
I ended up getting my first car love my sports car and got a sweet Mazda 3 mps Black series 1 luxury edition for $16,000. Car was in immaculate condition with low kilometres. Purchased on my birthday so happy!
I had a MK1 of these . Great little car. The engines are a little fragile though , and don't take kindly to software tuning etc.I had a couple of guys in my mps club that threw rods on their motors. I had a MSD Dashhawk , light software tune and intake on mine. Was pretty heavy on the gas when you gave it beans. Pity Mazda hasn't made on in the new shape yet.
Unlike the WRX and the EVO; which are tough guy criminals cars -- the Mazda MPS is an luxury middle-class gentleman's cruiser with big balls of power and style.
I thought about one of these a while ago, but I bought a Mazda 6 MPS as was cheaper and had 4WD, it has the same engine, it was great car to drive and comfy, but it's verrry! Thirsty!25-27mpg was the best it could return and that was granny driving it if u put your foot down now and again you were talking 15-17mpg then there was £500 yearly tax may as well of bought a Range Rover, soooo it got sold! Cya!

Payments even with zero money down is no more than $300/m. That's very very doable even with a minimum wage job at full time. At 25 you should be able to afford that very easily otherwise you need a new job
Ford purchased the rights for the the Mazda DISI engine and then stripped it back, upgraded everything and renamed it Eco boost for the mustard and rs. The only similarities that I'm aware of, is that the block is the same.
Shame that this car is has had a heavy front end now, bloke that has attempted to repair but done a bodge! Went to see this actual car today! Such a shame!
I've been looking at these recently...but one question for the MPS owners out there, there's a button marked "RVM" on the right side of the dashboard underneath the air vent...what is it for?
It stands for „rear vehicle m?? „ it shows you a warning in your outdoor mirrors when there is a car overtaking next to you, that you can‘t see in the mirror.
"Rear Vehicle Monitoring". A neat orange icon lights up in the side mirror when ever there is a car on a back corner of the car - and quite some pace back - and if you put on your indicator to that side you also get a beep (except if you just passed the car). Only working at speeds over 60km/h. Very usefull - often mistakes walls or large highway barriers for cars though.

That's ridiculous! I'm with Hastings. Butbwhen I first bought the car I was with Adrian Flux and they wanted nearly £2K?! Luckily I was with my 30 days to cancel the policy and with the same details with Hastings got it down to £700?! The 2012 Lexus IS250 I was looking at was going to cost me about £950 to insure. I swear they just roll a pair of dice to decide the prices!
+Ryan Tanswell Funny you mention Adrian Fluxx... That's who insured me, first said £700, which changed to £900 after 30 days which left me no choice but to carry on.. They want £200 to cancel my policy, safe to say no renewal with them. I love the MPS's but always thought insurance would have everyone's pants down, thanks for shedding light on it..
