This is likely to happen to most waterfront areas that arent properly documented with the state government. It would be better for the state government not to allow these settlements in the first place.
So sad for Nigeria government demolishing people's home properties without providing another placement with compensation even doing it without given them notices so that they shall take away their valuable documents.
Lagos State CANNOT accommodate everyone. So many people believe they can just take over, annex any land they see and hoping they will get away with it. But as they say, the long-arm of the law will catch up with them. Quite sad, but those who still cannot see this huge problem, please open your own home, apartment to any of these people free of charge, invite them in. Lagos is also the smallest state geographically, with population expanding only because some people think they can just take over any land, build illegal structures and then project their views on TV programmes. Nothing works properly when some people continue to obey the law, while others think breaking the law is fine. A note to those who think Government should find some other place for these people.... Where? How? And who's going to pay for it? If taxation start increasing to pay for it, the same people would be on the streets shouting and protesting.
Let them resell to the rich, so long as they use the REVENUE to provide social housing to the POOR. But there’s frankly no reason why Lagos should be looking like a filthy disorganized village or SLUM in the 21st century. Sadly, development and progress often comes with a certain amount of dislocation. For example, if the government provide pipe borne water for a community, those selling water in gallons and tankers will be dislocated.
@@therealist2866You are evil. May God reward you. What is government doing when the people are building? All the places masses are living is dirty.? God will reward you for your wickedness.
@@samjeff6063 yes, if I break the law, the government is free to enforce the law. Only in a LAWLESS society with a lawless government and populated by lawless CITIZENS do people think that ANYHOWNESS is “normal”. Perhaps next time Nigerians will vote, not on the basis of ethnicity and religion, but on competence and accountability in public governance.
It's A shame we have no right in this so called Nigeria. . Lagos state heartless 😢 . Take and give nothin to the people. But why can't we hold the government accountable for ?? What kind of Democracy do we practice???
Government should have made a provision for them, get a property for them to develop, give them compensations before demolition of their properties. These are the people who voted for APC in Lagos State. I wont be surprised to see big structures that will belong to either Lagos State government staff or big men in the state, because they want a place that will have sea view like Lekki & co. Shameless government.
Please channels tv, you can do better with this. No single interpreter or translator to translate what the interviewees are saying. This is an intl station, not a local channel. Pls do better next time.
This is so unfair on the part of the government. The government of Lagos state under Sanwo Olu has been so harsh and a torment on the ordinary people. How can you start demolishing poor peoples' homes without pre-informing them? Whatever agency that carried out this act should questioned immediately!!! People will vote for you but when u get to power u start using the power to oppress them. This is injustice!!!
Who ever is the so called government doing this wickedness.the God of vengeance must avenge against them and their posterity in the name of Jesus Christ AMEN.
The government should just compensate them.I have know government will demolish that community one day. Some area in Ajah too be guided when buying land
Government should have accommodated these people in high rise buildings.3 to 4 high rise building will take all these people and still have land for other things...
Lagos state governor, you will be in office for a period not more than 8 years. One day you will be addressed as the ex governor. May be one of those you expropriate the father's home without compensation will become the governor. Do you think, he won't hunt for you? I in his shoes will hunt you down and render you penniless and homeless. Land belongs to families and not government. The duty of government is to advice and organise and not to destroy people's only source of income as the state don't pay state pension to the seniors in Nigeria.
@@rossyrossy5110 Boia, you must be one of the governor's agents. As I don't know the level of your education, let me not take it personal. Before government of any nation expropriate land/ properties from citizens, 1)--government has to go to court and apply. 2) government must give the court very good reason why they needed the said expropriation. 3) with the court approval, then government will approach the property owners and discuss about the value for settlement in money or money plus relocation. As it is now, the people living there as tenants can go to court and ask for huge compensation without documents because, the documents are in the buildings that government agents burnt or knocked down.
@@jonochieofforle3495abegi where did you get your Nigerian law degree? The Internet? Under the Nigerian Constitution and extant law (see the Land Use Act), all land (with very few exceptions not readily applicable in this instance) are vested in the state governors, who hold it in trust and release same for “use” pursuant to certificates of occupancy. If these folks are legit occupants (and not illegal squatters), they can go the Alausa for compensation. Meanwhile, let’s quit encouraging lawlessness, impunity and ANYHOWNESS - whether from govt or citizens, or from the rich or poor.
@@therealist2866You are wicked. What is the government doing when people are building all these houses? The government suppose to provide house and amenities for people. Yet no provision for them. Like Maroko they will still share it among them selves
@@ronkealonge8378 not sure what your drivel has to do with the limited discourse here on Nigerian law, but I make it a point to ignore folks who resort to personal insults and attacks on a public discussion forum as it merely betrays the lack of a substantive argument and a CRUDE FAMILY UPBRINGING. 🤦♀️ PS: Meanwhile, perhaps next time when folks are voting on the basis of ethnicity and religion, and ethnic bigots are warning people from other ethnic groups not to come out to vote unless they are voting for the local ethnic champion(s), they should instead remember that “government suppose (sic) to provide house and amenities for people.” Sadly, Nigeria and Nigerians continue to epitomize the saying that people DESERVE the leaders they get. SMDH
Have they complied with the laws of Lagos State guiding buildings on water front areas? There is a specified distance from the abutment of the river to be maintained before buildings can be erected. If they had not kept to that or have genuine documents to support their claims their claims would be futile.
Sebi Yoruba Nation adviced you people not to vote, but not listening, you voted, now you are seeing the results, therefore, you people have no reason to complain or to lament at all. Yoruba Nation lo le se e're. Yoruba Nation no going back.
