I got the combo 1200 / 600 speedskim blue blade for flattening only. Trowel up with the Nela 16" flexi. As said, great if new flat walls but on older renovations they're not much use. Best thing about them though is that my elbow feels so much better after 35 years of using Marshalltown 14" stainless steel trowels 😀👍

Used the blue plastic spat yesterday it could have been a bad bag of plaster but it looked terrible I used it to do my first flatten prob shouldn't have but I ran the sponge over the panel and I came out great 👍

Use to use speedskim daily, then I got the refina metal blade spat and I’ve used nothing else since

Going to be looking into spats I see some prefer the plastic blade over the SS not sure what to get to going with how easy my plastic refina trowel gets nicks in it I think I would prefer the SS blade

Gordon Mackie speedskim plastic blades are great! but for steel the refina is loads better than the speedskim steel blade I found, I use them daily , best results is to use at low angles , and use them vertically and then run it cross ways

@@leegorman3329 Cheers for the pointers m8 will try that out cause I've plastered the same way for 19 20 years it's awkward changing things bit it's defo the way forward the more I use it I can only get better at using it better get spats soon so I can get used to them aswell lol

What was going on with the studded out ceiling ? Did you finish the work with the plastic speed skim or metal? Never finished work with it but I reckon you could get an ok finish

Gordon Mackie Ok cool, I've been using the speedskim more lately. Got a 1800 one and I much prefer it to the 1200 for broad work

I can't use these things on walls, feels weird. Great for ceilings tho, using the blue blade one.. plastic. I find the pole allows you to apply even pressure and it flattens nicely. Tried the stainless blade and binned it same day, horrible thing.

Just going with how much I have to sand any nicks out of my refina plaziflex I thought the SS blade would be better but might look into the plastic 1 different size mind you 👍

@@onpointplastering yeah I hear ya..they are a stronger plastic than the plazzi..and because it's only for flattening I don't really worry too much about the scratches..gonna be sponging and trowelling after anyway, I find it pulls less off if you're a bit early.. but to be fair you're gonna like whichever one you've got used to. 👍

I cut the 1200 blade st blue to about 700 and cut the rest up to smaller pieces like around architraves tight areas the bigger the blade harder to master ,plus the wall ceilings got be flat as 👍
