Luca lol same but still it's good to start looking into college around this age since high school is coming very soon and college is right after. You should also have a good understanding of which course you want to take and if you want to take multiple courses. Of course I'm not saying plan out your entire life but you should definitely look into good colleges.
I never agree with you. Oxford much better especially Political Science, İnternational Relations and Social Sciences area. www.timeshighereducation.com/world-university-rankings/2018/world-ranking#!/page/0/length/25/sort_by/rank/sort_order/asc/cols/stats
Adam Smith rank never shows everything :) Despite Cambridge ranks above Oxford, Oxford has been considered as the most prestigious university in British ppl's mind. Ain't gon' change even in the future
@@ruh3954 That's only because more politicians went to Oxford than Cambridge. For many programmes, Cambridge is ahead of Oxford, which is what matters, not what's in the minds of people who haven't been to either.
OMG how could the Cambridge speaker forget to mention Hugh Laurie, Sir Ian McKellen, Rachel Weisz, Tilda Swinon, Lily Cole and Tom Hiddleston AND how could the Oxford speaker forget to mention Stephen Hawkings!
+Disney0702 It the debate was extemporaneous, the it is easy to see how some acts could be forgotten. Stephen attended one university as an undergraduate (BS at Oxford), wile his Ph.D was acquired at Cambridge along with his teaching chair time.
samee, i actually passionate on social sciences which is oxford really good than cambridge, cambridge is the best in nature sciences (sir isaac newton, etc.). but my heart set on cambridge idk why
@@nananananessi Best of luck to you! My sixth form didn't let me apply (idk why, I was devastated :((( ) but I'm studying medicine at Leeds now and I love it! Whatever uni you choose, good luck!
I see it's completely pointless to argue about which one the best is. It's out of question that they both have enriched England and that is well known worldwide. That is the most important fact.
+Miguel Angel Alvirde true. The truth is that they are both halves of the unofficial ancient University of England and are among the tiny number of non US unis to merit unquestioned inclusion in the global top 10.
+WarthDader74 , University is only unnecessary if you take an unnecessary course, how can you become a doctor without going to uni ? Exactly so your statement is false lol
Rmiah13 I think the whole system is all wrong. If someone wants to be a doctor, they should start working in a hospital immidiately, and be educated there at the same time as they earn money. That would be much better than wasting a lot of time and money on a university, where you have to learn a lot of stuff which isn't relevant to the actual job you are heading for.
When younger people ask me what the differences are between the two places, I often struggle to suggest anything significant in terms of current academic output. But, in terms of ideology or temperament, I offer this analogy: Oxbridge is like Hogwarts split in the middle: Oxford is like Gryffindor and Hufflepuff, with everything good and bad that entails, while Cambridge is like Ravenclaw and Slytherin, with everything good and bad that entails.
Prestige is like a currency: its value changes when you move to a different region. The other day I was talking about MIT with an Indian engineer. She didn't know much about MIT and I hadn't heard of her school in India, which, as it turns out, is a whole lot more selective! It's funny how many people base their self-esteem on cachet only to have it vanish when they move outside of their own bubbles.
Despite that, Oxford and Cambridge are known internationally. Most professionals known about these universities even if only by name. For someone who wants to gain jobs in a variety of countries, having gone to Oxford or Cambridge is one of the best bets to make an impression in employers. Yes, prestige changes its values depending on the region you live in, but just like money, some is better than none.
***** That's interesting. The Oxford brand is less recognizable in the United States, which goes to show that the prestige of a university is relative. It depends on your perspective and nationality.
Cole Davis Not actually. Oxford and Cambridge were the first universities in the world and hundreds of years before other universities existed they started accepting international students. They've educated world - leaders for centuries. And the amount of history and tradition about both of them is crazy.
***** Actually the day Oxford was founded is unknown but teaching existed since 1096, while the university of Bologna was founded in 1088 so we can't be sure if oxford is the oldest in the world or not. And Oxbridge gives the best education in the world. They showed their high standards throughout the centuries. Hundreds of years before other universities existed, Oxford accepted their first international student - Emo in 1190. And yes, oxford and Cambridge are really some of the best in the world - they always rank in the top 5.
Depends. At Cambridge they offer a Natural Sciences course in which you study all Biological and Physical sciences and only later specialise in a particular science whereas at Oxford you can immediately do a course in a particular field of science and then specialise further into that field later. From my research it seems Cambridge is better for science if you know you want to go into science but aren't sure which field or just want a more general scientific understanding. However Oxford seems better for specialisation within a field and if you definitely know which science is your thing.
Cambridge all the way! It is substantially more beautiful than Oxford. As well as having one of the most iconic Chapels and its Library has every educational book ever published.
Exactly. Getting in is a walk in the park. *eyeroll* It is very difficult to do well at A Level if you are not motivated enough, so it stands to reason that we should be proud of our achievements.
They are both outstanding universities and you should be proud if you get an interview at either one of them. I would go to Oxford though, merely because it is closer to where I live.
Both are amazing and actually both are amazing in every field. But still you can pick one depending on your field. I studied physics at Cambridge and that was s good decision, because Cambridge is historically better in physics(generally in science), nobel prizes manifest it. Oxford is better in politics, literature, linguistics, list of prime ministers and oxford dictionaries manifest it. Finally I want to make my point. Science is the most important part of university(in my opinion), so Cambridge is a little better university.
I like your point, but for me as forigner this debate seems a little dumb. Cause both are well known respected and give good high education. And for me to get accepeted into one of them would be honor😄
Interesting point of view. I am doing a particular kind of physics, quantum error mitigation. I am a student at New York University. But I think the best researchers in this field are at Oxford University. Currently I am thinking of ways to collaborate with them and possibly to do an exchange.
It’s weird how I’m here at 15 because my school is essentially forcing us to consider our future aspirations this early.. Desperate to get into Cambridge in 2 years (I’m in Year 11).. I love the architecture, history, facilities suited to what I want to do there- Maths- and I mean, c’mon, it’s *Cambridge*!! :D
comparing two universities is ridiculous. It should not be a competition. If I was going to study, I would choose the university on the basis of a few criteria: - what universities offer the program degree I am interested in - what universities are the nearest ones to my home - which is the cheapest university I can afford to go to.
Hang about... The University of Manchester won the race to create the first digital stored program computer. It was an arresting achievement that put Mani on the map!! xp
Cambridge has been universally acknowledged as the best UK university, over the past 10-15 years. Oxford and Cambridge together are in a different league to the best of the rest, thanks to the collegiate system providing comfortable accommodation and delicious food - no time wasting shopping, cooking, washing up etc... plus a ready made community of like minded students - and a college bar, gym, fantastic sports facilities, frequent college socials - and most importantly tutors, often leading academics in their particular fields, providing one/two to one tutorials on a weekly basis. If you're not VERY bright or want to spend your three years getting pissed, then avoid Oxbridge. There is a massive amount of extremely difficult and challenging work that only the best students will cope with.
Definitely (always has been) Cambridge for sciences, and now they've now virtually closed the gap on the arts so I'm told by 'mi learned Arts friends'!
Cambridge, simply the best, ahead of any other university in the world, just for only one reason, that most of the football fans know, Thanks Cambridge for this beautiful game that is part of our daily, mostly weekends life. Thanks to our lovely Scottish immigrant teacher Mr. Alexander Watson Hutton, father of the AFA. A partner from Argentina and a River Plate- All Boys fan.
It's been my dream to study at Cambridge since I first heard about it at age 10. I'm currently 16 and would like to study medicine as I want to be a surgeon.
I will be starting at Cambridge this October, so I say Cambridge is better. I am reading Natural Sciences, so I am bound to stress the following, but without doubt Cambridge's contribution to science eclipses Oxford's (even if just comparing numbers of Nobel prizes), and science has and will continue to alter and enhance our livelihoods far more than authours and where most Prime Ministers studied!!!
Do Oxford and Cambridge graduates would know the first necessity for human life. Like where/how to get clean water and how to grow crops and bake bread? Or it is the 2nd tier knowledge of all the economic and scientific gibberish bull, that no normal person understands or buys it as a useful knowledge? What about spirit, meditation, auras, chakras and other real knowledge, that is being kept away from us?
We all know that sugar is bad for us, but we give it to the ones we love the most (our children). Imagine what we would achieve if we would free up all the labour force that is doing useless jobs like layers, economists, advertisers if we would not create stuff that we do not need and not try to sell that not needed stuff to people. We have to rid ourselves from any money system and start living our true lives.
Jesus christ these are the most elite students in the world. They become researches, engineers, neuroscientists, surgeons, businesses, creators and leaders of the modern world. That's more important than learning and of the useless crap you just said, why would that be tough in an elite universoty meant for future world leaders? Stop being such a hipster and accept the facts.
Somehow political affairs seem to be worse and worse. Last time I checked we are still using 1880's technology to move us around (cars and buses). All the scientists, surgeons have not really achieved anything of importance. If you loose and arm best you can get is a plastic replacement. I do not even want to start about businessman who's aim is to create useless stuff and then sell this useless stuff to sheep's like me and you. Invest some time researching cabal schools, fairly secret schools where elite children go. We have to work more and more. If you fail to see that............good for you my friend!!!
+blackmetalmagick1 Be proud of your school, both are great however, and the competition breeds a nice touch to the debate, in America its akin to Harvard vs Yale, yet to betruthful there are many great universities these days like Stanford, MIT, CAL Teck, U of Berkley, Dublin University, St. Andrews.
Oxford is known for doing a lot of good stuff like the Oxford dictionary but I have no clue about the education between them but it is cool how they battle over everything.
No need to call anyone names. Not here to have an argument with anyone or get personal. Just struggle to believe that you personally know the majority of graduates from a university. Numbers-wise, it's not feasible or likely.
Sadly, I don't get a particularly good feel from either place these days. Their popularity with personality-free international students, and a woke and money-hungry desire to accommodate them, has made them lose the genuinely charming 'Oxbridge type' character who is probably more likely to be having more fun at many other places.
