Strongly recommend Pipe to anyone who wants to use Oxi with modular gear. Not only it is convenient to have a breakout module in the rack, but also, now your CV and gate outs on Oxi are unbuffered mults, and we all know that especially gates are almost always going into mult before sending them to envelopes and various other stuff.
SynthDad, liked and subscribed! Great communication style and informing me just what I need to know. I’ve been trying to find a good way to modulate CV on my modular for quite a while now and most reviews leave me with more questions than answers. Many thanks.
@@SynthDad I would love it indeed saw Waveformer (T) using it and immediately looked up price🤣🤣🤣 but alas Id have to sell an mpc for it and not quite ready for that. Looks incredible for live improv especially in modular world!! Yes all good here, you Sir? 💗🍻🙌
@@SynthDad did oxi hire you to sell their product or are you just so excited that you need to share with the world the joy you have found? or maybe youd like some of that youtube cheddar
@@SynthDad tis a feeling of community you are after? contributor brownie points? an ego rub... status among fellow jammin bredren? a reason to live! are you really a dad?
great content. my thanks. but seing this i really must step back from buying an oxi one. it's so immensely powerful yet you have to remember sooooo many combinations and map them out in your brain. for my techno performance i was torn between the oxi one and the torso t1. but now i'm leaning towards the t1 just because it seems to be more constrained and straight forward.
hi there! I don't have a modular but would really like a video just showing how you make a track from scratch using the oxi, using all the modes, and longer sequences :)
Have you installed the latest beta firmware, because that has this new feature in it. The manual online is still a bit out of date. I know a manual update is coming soon
The newest FW update, and the recent fresh shipments of product (thanks @PerfectCircuit ) and your clear intros have made their way into incoming OXI fun for me and my unwieldy hybrid rig….Thanks much, and Please keep the vid tutorials coming…….
Here's something that's been killing me: the completely undocumented DIN SYNC functionality only mentioned in the manual in the context of an unincluded dongle. I've been trying for days to figure out an easy way to have the One trigger the Run functionality of Pamela's New Workout.
Oh I hadn't seen that before. My One didn't come with that adapter so I can't test it. Why not use the Clock Out TRS port on the back of the One into Pams? That's how I sync them
Ha, well I just learned you can set Pam's to start/stop based on clock instead of Run so now it works great. Really interested to see what the new "Matriceal" mode is going to be.
Great tutorial. Cost differences aside, if you didn’t have the Oxi One and had to choose between it and the Squarp Hapax, would you still choose the Oxi?
I can't really give you a good answer because I've only played with a Hapax for a few minutes so don't know how to compare it. I think the Hapax has more advanced MIDI effects, but is larger and no battery power. The Oxi wins for CV/gate connectivity with 8 as against 4 for the Hapax.
first of all, your videos are so helpful, many thx for that! i'm wondering if the pipe is also able to extend oxi with additional 8g8cv or does it disabel the ones on the back??
Is it possible to use at the same time PIPE and CV/Gate on OXI Outs, - in order to double the number of different modulations within eurorack, Spaghetti cabling plus compact PIPE ravioli cabling ?!
@@SynthDad duplicates got you, that's usable as well in manny situations, thank you for taking time and bringing it closer to me 🤪 You covered OXI ONE so much, I watched couple of your videos so far, very much friendly for a new comer like my self.
Hi SynthDad i've just watched Oxi Instruments tutorial for absolute beginner and it shows 2 synths connected to the Oxi One via the Oxi split midi splitter with designated outputs 1 and 2 meaning that the 2 synths can be triggered independently of each other.I have a 7 way midi splitter - will i be able to use that and get the same result please ? Thanks for the support videos.
It can do both! In the modulation menu press Shift and the knob corresponding to the modulation lane. This opens up a control menu for that mod lane. Scroll down and you'll see a "Smooth" parameter that lets you set the degree of slew between steps
When you bought this, did it come with one or two MIDI cables? Even though I don't do Eurotack, I am toying with getting one of these. I do have synths with CV/Gate though. Nice video. Cheers.
4:16 where do these notes come from all of a sudden? I don’t get where to program the notes. Please tell me it isn’t by holding down a button and turning a dial? I know you can copy a pattern from a monophonic sequence, but isn’t there a way to select a track and then dive into note view?
I just pre-programmed them into the sequencer so that it was ready to get to the important part of hooking up to the modular. That way the video didn’t just show me typing in notes.
Hey @synthdad would you perhaps know how the change the key of a melody on the second page of a sequencer without effecting the first page? I recorded a melody into Oxi, step 1-16 is the melody, I then duplicated the melody to the second page step 16-32 and would like to make a key change. If I use the up and down arrows it effects the global key and not only the second page. You can’t change the the notes after recording into Oxi, the notes go haywire…any idea how to do this ?
What happens if you press and hold a note pad on the second page and then press a pad up or down to transpose the notes by that many semitones (in whatever scale you’ve chosen)?
What worked for me is copying the pattern into a new slot, switching to that new slot and then using the normal transpose feature by holding the according Sequence (1, 2, 3, 4) button and pressing the target note in the grid.
Good question! The T1 is more hands-on as it is a knob-per-function sequencer. You can quickly change the performance on the fly using each knob. However if you want to build songs or program specific patterns then it's not as strong. The Oxi One is better for composition because it has an arranger (i.e. song creator) and you can build song progressions on it. It is very powerful at harmonising and chord generation too. And it has more CV/gate connections than the Torso. So really it depends on how you want to interact with the devices.
