I have the original OXO and this is a great redesign! My only issues with the original are the size of the base and the dispense lever

I agree. I feel like the flask on the old design is more fragile, easier to cause dripping and simply more difficult to manage. If I drop my receiving flask, is that a good justification to upgrade to the new one?

Question: I've never been a coffee drinker, so I am completely ignorant on coffee. I've just started making cold brew to mix with other drinks. I've noticed a mud like consistency settling to the bottom. Is that safe normal? Do most people drink that? Or filter it out? It seems like it will mix fine if shaken or stirred, but I've tried using a standard paper coffee filter and that filters it out. I'm only using it as a mix in protein shakes, so I don't care about the consistency. I just don't want to drink it if it is bad for me. Thanks for any help 🙏🏻

Ground coffee beans don't dissolve in water. That mud settling to the bottom is the spent ground coffee. You are expected to filter it out of your coffee. Drinking unfiltered coffee is mildly unhealthy- mild enough that it's debatable- but I definitely do recommend filtering your coffee no matter what.

This video conflicts with the other SCG in terms of ratio used. Here it's 6:1 and most other SGD videos recommend 4:1. Even if it's 6:1, that would be a concentrate level and not drunk straight like this guy does in this video. If you drink this straight, 24oz would yield about three drinks of cold brew. Using 4 oz of beans for three drinks is a lot of beans per drink. 4 oz of beans yields 5 cups of pour over coffee.

it's a concentrate. def do not recommend drinking that straight. usually i do a 3.5 fluid ounce pour of concentrate. add about 5 fl ounces of water. and a few ice cubes. give it a little spoon swirl. and you're good to go

Cold basement for 48. Coffee does not need to be ground extra course either. I use Four Sigmatic’s lion mane regular ground course and it works great. This Oxo is well worth the money.

Depends on how strong you want your coffee. Seems like he didn’t want to add too much to it after it was done brewing, so he made it with less grounds

24 oz water yields 16 oz. ~2oz concentrate added to 4-6 oz water/milk.So each batch makes ~8 servings

The water gets absorbed no matter what size you grind your coffee beans down to in my experience with cold brew. I usually end up adding more water to the coffee grounds. It never ends up yielding 24oz of cold brew as the specs say.

Agreed! My "32" oz cold brew maker has a 32 oz. carafe but it consistently yields 24 oz of cold brew. After removing the filter with the grounds, I fill the carafe to the 32 oz line.

That's why I looked up this video. Seemed like too much coffee haha I will go with he says. Maybe if you fill it to the coffee bean it is for a concentrate?

@@thealbinokoala - Yes, filling the coffee to the coffee bean line is for making a batch of concentrate. When I do that, I fill up the water to the top after putting the coffee in.
