Thank you so much for these videos! I am in my first semester of nursing school and I am supposed to just scratch the surface in my fundamentals class. I often find myself going below the surface when reading chapters and these videos help me identify more important topics so I can not focus on the fluff.

Good evening Miss Meris, thank you for these videos they are very helpful. I have a question . For COPD patients what types of oxygen delivery devices would you use for these patients because I know that they have respiratory acidosis. Can you use nasal cannula, simple face mask , bipap, venturi mask etc...?
@LevelUpRN
@LevelUpRN Год назад
Any oxygen delivery device is fine, it would just depend on the circumstances. A patient who just needs a little bit of oxygen would probably receive a nasal cannula. If a patient experienced something more severe, like a trauma or something causing profound hypoxia, we may need to give them a non-rebreather to improve their oxygenation status. However, just remember that we need to use oxygen cautiously with our patients who have COPD, as they have a _hypoxic_ drive to breathe, not a hypercapnic drive to breathe like usual. If we over-oxygenate them, we can knock out their drive to breathe and have a bigger problem on our hands! --Meris :)

How deep the catheter for airway suctioning goes down? Poking too deep like 50cm??? Or 30cm?
@LevelUpRN
@LevelUpRN Год назад
It depends on what type of suctioning you're doing. If you're just suctioning out the mouth and oropharynx, you don't pass the suction catheter very far at all. But there is other types of suctioning, such as suctioning a trach, or in-line suctioning for someone with an ET tube. You would want to review your facility policies to see what they say about that type of suctioning, but it is much deeper than an oropharyngeal suction. --Meris

Nonrebreather bag DOES NOT need to be full of air!!! Also if a patient needs to have a Nasal cannula on, it's best not to use water-based jelly but a humidifier which you do not need a physician order for. I'm disappointed in this video, I had students tell me about this video and had to correct them
