Contactless has been pretty unpopular since it's introduction when compared to the Oyster card, which is no surprise considering that people are naturally suspicious when something like TFL gets hold of your bank details. I've been using an oyster card since I was 10 and I have never had a problem with either the under 16's oyster or the 16+ one :)

Does the weekly cap on contactless include buses same like the oyster travel card does?
@Devi_Shammuramat

I Never knew about contactless (even tho had a valid card). Yesterday had to go into London, and got overcharged by staff: when ticket office was closed and machine accepting cash-only. Payment was taken from my contactless card [says 'contactless' on the receipt]: but staff member neglected to tell me anything about contactless, and how I could have just touched my card at start of journey. (Even though she had the energy for long conversation in Russian, with two women before me: who also tried to use machine at start; and found they could Not).

Love these videos you do Informative and entertaining at the same time. I was in London 5 years ago and never knew any of this. It would have been helpful then. Now I watch wishing I could visit again (I'm in Canada, so a loong way to travel to see England again). I shall armchair travel via some of the videos on RU-vid until I can revisit England :) I've seen in some of the comments something about zones. Has a video been done explaining what that means? Is it zones are like boroughs or areas (amount of city blocks from x north/south to z east/west) or postal code sort of thing??

@jasoncrobar724
@jasoncrobar724 6 лет назад
Travelcards work on night services, but I wouldn't recommend buying a 1 day travelcard if you have Oyster or contactless as an option. The daily cap for "pay as you go" is cheaper than the cost of a daily travelcard for the same zones. If your tube travel stays within zones 1-3, for example, the PAYG cap is £8, compared to £12.70 for a 1 day zone 1-3 travelcard.

Doesn't the Oyster card have some discounts other places? Like museums and shops. I am not sure if you get that with contactless. Besides that I would prefer contactless. Because you don't have the stress with getting back the deposit when leaving London (at train/bus station). My new credit card have the possibility for contactless. I got it because my old was skimmed in either London or Berlin on my last trip...

Note: The TfL website to connect your Oyster Card to your bank account has been broken FOR A MONTH. When I log in and try to add a card I get this page oyster.tfl.gov.uk/tfl-oyster/error.shtml I called the assistance number and the agents themselves can't access the system. In addition, when you CAN get into the site, it only allows auto top-up via a UK bank card, it does not support foreign cards.

Does Apple Pay have daily capping ? Some say yes some say no so I’m asking a reliable source
@jasoncrobar724
@jasoncrobar724 6 лет назад
Apple Pay & Google Pay both cap the same way as a contactless card would, provided that you are consistent in using the same device for the whole day / week. If you use the app for one journey, and the actual card for another, the system sees them as 2 separate, unrelated card numbers & tracks them separately.

+Johan 200011 Hello, Southall Broadway is not on the tube, but you can get a train from Southall Broadway to Paddington. The London Eye & Bridge are in zone 1 on the tube & is on the Northern & Jubilee lines. East Ham is in zone 3 & is on the District & Hammersmith & City lines. I would recommend buying an Oyster card in advance which you can use on all of these lines.

+Cyrus Loves India Hello, of course we can guide you - that's what we're here for ;-) 1. Children aged five to 10 can travel free at any time by Tube, DLR, London Overground and most National Rail services in London (where pay as you go is accepted), as long as they travel with an adult who has a valid ticket (up to four children can travel free with one adult) 2. Start of with £50 & see how you go. You can always re-top up online or at a ticket machine once you're here. Let us know if you have any more questions & enjoy London!

You're right. They have announcements "why not use contactless today?" If your overcharged or go into the red with Oyster, you'll notice easily. Contactless doesn't run out so your less likely to notice mistakes until it's too late to query it. TfL therefore profit from it. It's a scam!
