In this video, PA David covers everything about the Type 2 Diabetes medication Ozempic! We go into how the medication works, the doses, common side effects, and how to use the injector device. I also discuss my own personal opinions on where Ozempic fits into the management of Type 2 Diabetes and the type of patients for whom it's most appropriate.

Been on it for 2 years now. A1C down to 5.2 from 14.8 . Weight is down from 364 to 220lbs. This stuff saved my life. My Endocrinologist recommended it and I am so thankful he did.

What dosage are you on. I’ve just began taking it a month ago. I had diarrhea and nausea for the first month but it has stopped now. Congratulations on your weight loss and A1C. I weigh 240 and hope to go down to 200.

@@colleenjones757 hello Colleen, I was started on 0.25 for 2 weeks then 0.50 for 4 weeks then moved up to 1mg. I did have diarrhea for around a month but didn’t have any nausea. My only suggestion would be not to set a goal weight. Definitely aim for an Excellent A1C but let the weight loss be a fantastic side effect of getting your A1C under control. My plan was to try and lose 50 pounds, now 3 years later I am sitting at 205 pounds and I never thought that was possible. If you have any questions feel free to ask. Good luck Colleen

I am 63 years old and have been on Ozempic for 6 months and it has changed my life! I have lost 56 lbs and my eating habits have changed considerably. I have cut out all sweet things ( sugar, chocolate etc,) and check all foods for sugar content before I eat. The gym bores me, so I walk everyday - to the shops or the shopping centre and use the stairs instead of lifts ( elevators) . I have an exercise bicycle in my room and watch films when I'm on it. I was amazed at the weight loss ( I've had to change my clothes size from 3XL to L ) and feel much better, both physically and mentally. I did suffer some side effects ( flatulence / nausea ) initially, but they only occur if I succumb to the odd 'treat' . I would have no hesitation in recommending OZEMPIC in combatting Diabetes Type 2.

I have been taking .25 mg doze for over two years. Loss of appetite, nausea, and diarrhea were side effects. It did bring my A1c by 1 point. But now after 2 year use it has gone up. If you are going to take it, make sure you walk everyday. Cost is prohibitively high. With insurance it is $240 per month. If you don't have insurance it is close to $1,000 per month. From what I here, both Canada and Mexico, cost is much lower.

At the age of 37 I learnt what it meant to be full after a small meal, and It allowed me to switch to a healthy eating pattern very easily, something I have never achieved with all the many diets I have tried. I finally saw a new doc. High sugars , feel horrible. Ozempic started at lowest dose. Worked immediately. Less desire to binge eat, stress eat, already full feeling after small normal meal.numbers down right away. However full feeling a little more than expected and no BM in 2 - 3 days not expected. Then instead of waiting the 4 weeks to double dose like recommended for body to get used to effects my doc did that in 1 week. They say it does not work at low dose but mine did. Now actually Losing my appetite, uncomfortable fullness, reflux , constipation. Obviously diabetes sucks but now I can barely eat. Thinking this dose was not necessary.

I've been on it for almost 3 months for weight loss. I've dropped almost 15lbs. I'm not hungry anymore, no cravings, I eat small amounts. I'm excited to see how far I can go. I've had gastric bypass in 1999 and after tremendous weight loss I regained most of it since then. Hunger would not stop, cravings became binges. Ozempic is working so far. The semaglutide for weight loss is not covered by my insurance, but Ozempic is because it's designed for diabetes. I'm feeling better, my ruined joints aren't as bad. I've had to use nutritional drinks to maintain. Unfortunately, after a while, the effects began to diminish and had to bump up to the next dose until I couldn't go any higher. I was switched to Trulicity which did nothing and I've begun to regain. I suggest that you give Ozempic a try, or use another SEMAGLUTIDE product, like Rybelsus. Who told you your insurance won't cover it? My Dr told me that and I believed him because even though it didn't make sense, I figured he would know right? But suddenly I had this nagging voice tell me to call the pharmacy to get the NDC codes for the lowest dose and the next up dose. I called my insurance company myself and guess what?! They don't cover the lowest dose BUT THEY DO COVER the higher dose! So I called my Dr's office and told the (shocked) receptionist what I found and got an appt to be seen. I will be getting my Ozempic later this month (August 22/2022) I say all this to tell you to NEVER take your Dr's word. Do your own homework & take your health in your own hands! I did.

@@helprehouseourvets6919 My insurance covers the semaglutide in the form for diabetic use, but not in the form for weight loss. worked wonders with me. I've lost over 45 lbs, A1c down to 6.2 from over 9.0 not hungry anymore, and when I am, it only last for no more than 20 minutes. Avoiding low blood sugar is related to NOT eating due to NOT being hungry. the high cost of my co-payment kept me from getting it from my Medicare PCP but the VA finally gave it to me due to my very bad heart. SO glad I'm on it now. Now, I sometimes see better without my glasses on.

I changed my diet and like you mentioned the nausea and vomiting can be troublesome. But it's been worth it. I've almost reached the weigh loss set by my nurse practitioner. Yay!

I am not diabetic, but my doctor started me on ozempic as a weight loss medication. I have tried so many things to lose weight. Despite active efforts to lose weight I have slowly gained weight over the last several years. I was referred to the bariatric clinic due to my BMI (such an outdated measure, but still). I am on the lowest dose of .25mg and have been for about 4-5 months. I have successfully lost 20 lbs doing the exact same things that I have been doing. I have never successfully lost more than about 5 lbs on any diet or exercise plan in the past. There were some side effects at the beginning (I also have gastroparesis, so that doesn't help), but they have subsided to nothing more the my normal level of digestive issues. I am thankful that my insurance covers this medication with a manageable copay.

Hi Keisha, I realise it has been 11 months since you posted your comment. I hope you are still doing well. Reading your comment I had to ask if there was any reason you didn't increase the dose to .5mg after 4 weeks on .25mg? I only found out today that even though I had 2 needles left in my box there are only 4 doses because of the increase. If I had done the maths I would have worked it out. It took ringing my chemist today thinking there was a problem with the pen, to be told about the 4 doses. It is so frustrating as I was talking to my pharmacist about my 10kg weight loss on Ozempic, I asked her what was my starting date, I said I was on my 2nd pen, she asked if I needed my next pen & I said no as I still had 2 doses left. I am not angry as they go above & beyond to help me in any way they can, it was just one of those learning experiences & I can excuse myself as I haven't been thinking straight due to being very anxious about an upcoming operation & even though I love how the weight is coming off, for me it is coming off too quickly, I am very scared about an upcoming operation which I have to lose weight for, so the sooner I get to the target the sooner the operation which is only 3kg away.

A few things, I never went up to the .5 dose because I didn't need to. I was losing on the lower dose. It has been a over a year since I started and have lost 50 lbs. I had noticed a plateauing and was going to ask my doctor about adjusting the dose. Unfortunately, that isn't going to happen as now my insurance will no longer cover it. Ozempic is not approved as a weight loss med in the US. Many insurance companies are starting to not cover it for anyone who isn't diabetic.

I bought Ozempic from Shopper’s Drug Mart in Canada two weeks ago for $284 for a months supply. The price has come down but it still is out of reach for those without private insurance. Thankfully, my company insurance covers the full amount. I noticed that the only time I had gastrointestinal issues (really bad diarrhea) was last night when I ate an unhealthy snack. I’ve been on keto and one meal a day (OMAD) for the last few months so my body wasn’t use to eating crap and I have been losing weight before I started Ozempic. Funny thing is I didn’t even enjoy that snack. Will continue my keto diet with OMAD and exercise while taking Ozempic to lower my blood sugar. Also, I take Ozempic every Friday after work when I am at home to avoid any side effects at work (who wants to get diarrhea at work?). Plus I’ll have Saturday and Sunday to recover.

FELUTXI Hi, I've been on Ozempic since May 2020, i was prescribed it (on private prescription in the U.K, it's only available on NHS if you are diabetic which I wasn't ) because I was gaining weight despite being on a very low calorie healthy diet. I ended up weighing 210lbs and rising (I'm only 5ft 1in tall) and due to spinal issues following an accident I had to have extensive spinal surgery so carrying all the extra weight meant I was in chronic pain 24/7 and was having to regularly increase my pain medication just to get through the day. I'm now 8 months on and have lost 49lbs, I haven't changed my diet or activity levels at all so every lb lost is down to Ozempic. The only side effect I've had is EXTREME nausea during all my waking hours and it was nausea that more often than not followed through to vomiting. I tried everything to reduce the nausea from reducing the Ozempic dose to cutting out caffeine (some people have found that Ozempic and caffeine don't go well together) and nothing worked. I tried several anti sick medications and antacid medications and nothing helped and I thought I'd have to stop the Ozempic, the thought of this was heartbreaking as I'd had such fantastic weight loss where no other diet had worked. I eventually tried Cyclizine Hydrochloride and 🤞🏻for the last couple of months they've worked and I've had no nausea (it's been bliss!!). Obviously I don't want to be taking anti sickness for months on end so my plan is to get to my goal weight which is to lose another 24lbs then to cut my Ozempic gradually down to as low a dose as possible and then cut out the anti sickness mess and 🤞🏻my body will be happy with it. Good luck on your journey xx

Your presentation was worthwhile, Thank you. Clear and concise. The literature, my endo, the diabetes educator all mentioned diarrhea and vomiting. HOWEVER no one talked about the severity of diarrhea and vomiting or how to manage food intake to decrease the risk of these horrible episodes. I have found it is important to pay attention when I start feeling full. Sometimes that can be after three bites. At that point stop eating until the full feeling passes & eat a little more or stop eating until later. There have been times my blood sugar was low, in the 60's, and I felt if I ate I would vomit. I was able to take 4-6 glucose tablets to bring the glucose level up. Have also found Healthy Choice meals are just about the right quantity of food for me for one meal. I can't quite finish the meal, so leave it and finish about an hour later. I have lost 35 pounds in 6 weeks and plan to continue with Ozempic hoping things get easier,

I started taking Ozempic two months ago. First month on a .25 I had no side effects and no noticeable effect on my glucose or appetite. The second month on 0.5 was great. Then I moved up to the 1 milligram and it was awful. It wasn’t so much nausea, I had terrible cramps and diarrhea and I simply could not eat at all, I had no appetite, I would force myself to have one slice of toast a day and I was feeling so weak I could hardly function. I was told by a diabetes nurse that rather than go back to 0.5, I should take 1 mg pen but not turn the cap all the way to the full dose, but to count the clicks, there are 75 clicks from 0 to 1 mg, and to count about 50 clicks and see how that goes. That’s about 2/3 of a dose. If that works out OK, to increase my dose each week by five clicks until I reach the full amount. It’s been working brilliantly, I have already lost 5 kg in the last month and my glucose levels are at normal level. And I have no nausea or other stomach issues. I can’t wait to see what my HA1c is at my next blood test.

I told my Dr I had no intention of taking Mounjaro again. So she suggested Ozempic. I managed my diabetes with diet, prior to taking any injections, to get my A1C down from 14 to 9.6. Mounjaro and my diet got me from 9.6 to 5.8. Today, with no injections, my daily spikes are what concern me. I’m hoping Ozempic will be the answer to keep those from happening. Best of luck to you all!! 🫶🏽

I am 63 & have been on Ozempic for 2 months for weight loss for upcoming brain surgery & I am diabetic, my food intake hasn't changed much but the weight is falling off me, as of today at my dr's appointment I have officially lost 10kgs. I am very fortunate that it only costs me $6.70 per pen in Australia. I have had no side effects. The only issue really is I don't have any clothes that fit, I didn't realise how big everything I had looked on me until I saw a photo of me wearing my comfy leggings which were baggy & looked awful, I am personally blown away by how much weight has just dropped off & I also have Hashimoto's Disease, my thyroid doesn't work at all. I also don't crave chocolate anymore which I am very pleased about.

Hi David, first, Excellent and highly informative video - Thank you! I am being evaluated for Ozempic tomorrow and have a couple questions regarding the side affects you mentioned: 1) If I did experience nausea or diarrhea, is it something that will pass after a while? (i.e., on and off, temporary type thing that I can just deal with?) Or does it go on constantly all day? 2) And if I do experience side effects the first few days, does that mean they will continue? i.e., I should stop it immediately if I feel a little nauseous? Thanks again!

My endocrinologist wanted me off the Glimepiride as it causes you to gain weight. My PCP put me on it. Well anyway, wish me luck. Ill check back in a couple weeks.

On week 2...haven’t weighed myself yet, but intend to tomorrow. My appetite is a bit suppressed, can’t hold down as much food as I used to (which is GOOD), sweet cravings kinda stopped as well. Sometimes (maybe a couple of times a day) my stomach will feel queasy for a few min, I just pop a saltine in my mouth. Eating a lot of apples and not constipated like some ppl complained about. Energy is ok, still working out 3x a week. I get it in🇲🇽 and paid $162 or $172 for it. I’m pretty happy with it.

I have been on Ozempic since last April along with Forxiga. I have lost 60 pounds since January. The nausea was significant in the beginning but eventually went away after about 3 months. What I am still dealing with is diarrhea anywhere from 3 to 5 days per week. The sulphuric gas, bloat is daily. Sticking closer to a plant based diet has helped me the most. My sugars were much better in the first 6 months of use, but eating more meat lately they have gone back up somewhat. As far as ease of use, convince etc, I think its terrific. I have a relaxed work, home care, so I have been able to manage side effects and a very understanding roommate... Bottom line is 60 pounds down and that's great for a 53 year old lady. Its a tool to help with weight loss, not a miracle cure on its own, in my opinion! Update... Another year later I have kept the weight off. Nearly losing another 5 pounds. I feel the best the close I stick to plant based diet. Bloat has never left me, no has the terrible gas. Getting on a good magnesium supplement is the only thing that has helped the endless diarrhea. I am now down to just a day or two per week. My A1C is still above goal, last two were 8.2 and 9.4

I’ve been on Ozempic since September 2020. This, combined with a low carb diet, has helped me lower my A1c to 5.8 and I have lost 46 lbs. I am nauseous and when I increased my dose to 1 mg, I vomited nearly every day. I have gone back to 0.5 in the hopes that would help with the vomiting. Still vomiting about twice a week which is better than every day but wondering if eventually that will taper off? I hope so because in spite of the nausea, I feel better than I have in a long time. Before this I was on a tight insulin regimen of Apidra and Lantus and was able to stop them within 2 weeks of starting Ozempic. When on insulin I could not lose weight at all, in spite of eating low carb and exercising daily. Honestly I feel like this is a miracle drug.

I have been using Ozempic at the.05 dose for about 14 months.Along with doing so I also changed my eating habits.I changed my diet to my choices and not any given by a Doctor or Dietitian.I eat all of the Protein,Vegetables that are Low in Carbs, and Fresh Fruits such as Grapes, Blueberries, Strawberries, Cuties,& Peaches that I want.My A1c was 13.8 when I started being treated and it’s now 5.5 and it was 5.4 the visit before my last one.I have dropped from a size 46 pants to a size 36 pants and before now the last time I wore a size 36 I was in the 9th grade in 1974.I Rarely ever get hungry because I always have plenty of foods that I can eat all that I want of.All of my blood work and blood pressure are Excellent as well.I have had high blood pressure since I was in my early 20’s and I also have a fatty liver from Alcohol abuse as a teenager and into my late 20’s.I have very strong willpower and I have not Cheated on my eating plan even once and I don’t Reward myself with junk foods.I skip the carbs every day all day.I don’t do any exercise due to having severe Neuropathy in my feet, hands, and arms. The Ozempic helps with my hunger but I can control my diet.I have lost well over 100 lbs so far and these 36’s are getting looser every single day.I also have seen Zero side affects from the Ozempic.I will be coming off of the Insulin Pump in June since I only refill it every 6 to 7 days now. When I started on my change of life I was refilling the pump every day and a half to two days Max.I feel great and life is good.If I could get rid of the Neuropathy Pain it would be AWESOME.👍👏❤️

So far my issues with the side effects (7 weeks now) is I eat too much. It’s honestly been a problem for me since I was a kid. So now that I feel full quicker, psychologically I “HAVE” to finish the food on my plate because I don’t know when I’ll eat again. This has cause a lot of nausea and vomiting twice (once this week and once last week) and I haven’t vomited in 12 years. I’m still learning my lesson on eating less. BIG HEADS UP TO ANYONE TAKING THIS - listen to your body, not your mind on this. Helps with vomiting and nausea. Trust me!

I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes It took me three weeks to get the medication, do the back locks and it sat in my fridge for one week while I debated taking it because I was already getting my numbers down on my own after making a few minor adjustments to my diet and I was doing well but my doctor insisted that I take it because I wasn’t gonna be able to control a random spikes. Regrettably on July 1 I took my first .25 dose. The absolute worst mistake of my life within an hour. I ended up in the emergency room. The ER doctors were wonderful and they shared with me there discussed on the hype over this medication and I’m not even on it for weight loss, but strictly for diabetes and they’ve seen many people sick on this medication. I had a severe allergic reaction to it. I’m so angry that I went against my gut feeling and took it when I came home, I grabbed all the medication in my fridge and threw it in the trash. I sent a message to my doctor to let her know that I ended up in the ER and I was going to do this on my own without medication. I simply cannot imagine people taking this drug for weight loss. I understand that they are desperate to lose weight, but the long-term effects per the ER doctors are scary. I’m equally upset with pharmaceutical companies that push the stuff and mislead people. I’m still sick and I can’t eat anything which has become detrimental as I’m diabetic. My stomach hurts and I just feel overall horrible and there’s no way to flush this out of your system faster the ER doctor said I will probably not feel great for another month but there’s no such thing as flushing Ozempic out of your system. Never again will I go against my gut feeling. My neighbors daughter used it to lose weight after having a baby I couldn’t even believe it but now she can’t get the medication because her insurance company will only cover it with a diagnosis of diabetes and it’s very expensive without insurance, and she is already going back to her old ways of gaining weight and then some. Ozempic is just a crutch. Once you get off of it, the doctor is right away it will come back, unless you make strict modifications in your life and stick to them. Sadly, many people have a fast food mentality. They want to lose weight fast that they gained steadily over the years and years of bad eating habits. Doing it with this medication is definitely a roll of the dice with your life. The best thing I did with all of the Ozempic I had was throw it in the trash and never look back. I wish everyone well but please please be very careful just because it may appear to be working now. Doesn’t mean it will long-term this drug is very unpredictable per the ER doctors ♥️🙏🏻

I’ve been on Ozempic for 5-months working up to 1mg dosage and lost 25lbs very quickly. My A1C is down 1.5 points. Side effects were total loss of appetite, food smelling badly, and the nausea often, especially in the first 2-months. I’m a Canadian over 65-yes of age, so thankfully our government health insurance covers the cost. I would highly recommend Ozempic to assist in controlling diabetes.

Thank you for your solid explanation on Ozempic. i was one that had a problem with the dosage ( with the 1s all the way down) very confusing. Since I was coming to Ozempic because the side affects from Mounjaro were debilitating. On it first the body aches for so severe. Once the dose was in the next two days was hell. I couldn't move it was flu like body aches times 100. I continued using the dose monthly as prescribed. My body never got use to it. I was told to take the shot with a full stomach etc. I had to advocate for myself and say look it's been 4 months and 3 out of 7 days I'm laid up. Finally, my doctor switched me to ozempic. Today there are no side effects and can go about my days without pain. That brings the question: What was in the mounjaro that's not in ozempic? Lastly, why is my stomach talking to others in the room. It's so loud, does an antacid work? Thanks again Ellen
