I was lucky enough to see Ozzy during this 1981 tour in Springfield, Massachusetts. Everyone was in awe of the incredible guitar work performed by Randy Rhodes! Sadly the next year we had tickets for the New Haven, CT. show that took place just a week or two after the tragic plane crash. That was a sad show and no where near what the previous years show was with Randy Rhodes! RIP

A year after this the world lost an amazing guitar player when Randy died in a freakish plane crash...I remember when I was 16 and obtaining a bootleg VHS tape of this whole performance of a bunch of songs (which came from a late night tv show I believe) R.I.P. Randy....Take it easy Ozzy...Hope you overcome the health issues....

This was filmed in April of 1981 at a tv studio in Rochester, New York for the tv show “After Hours” . It’s the only professionally shot film of Randy Rhodes playing, he died in a horrific fiery plane crash on March 19, 1982 at age 25. The other songs from this show you can see on RU-vid are “I Don’t Know” “Crazy Train” and “Suicide Solution”.

He didn't have a choice with Black Sabbath, he was 'asked' to leave aka fired. Don Arden was Sabbath's manager, Sharon was his daughter who worked for him. At the time, the two were at odds. Sharon was told to go and collect money that Ozzy owed and discovered he'd spent it on booze and drugs. Seeing an opportunity to kind of stick it to her father, she became Ozzy's manager, helped him get his act together, and basically resurrected his career. And then married him. I would say 95% of the people who've watched this clip, did so strictly for Randy Rhoads. There's not much footage of him in action.🤘

Randy Rhoads was one of my earliest influences on guitar. I was always attracted to the way he blended classical music and metal. Ozzy did well in his solo career because he always surrounded himself with the best musicians in the industry. Let's face it, Randy wrote most of the material for Ozzy's first two albums while he was still teaching pimple-faced kids how to play at his mother's music school. IMHO, I don't think Ozzy would have had such a successful solo career if he hadn't met Randy. The Ozzy/Randy Rhoads Tribute album, which was put out after Randy's death, is a great collection of live recordings. Check out Randy's version of Paranoid, Iron Man, and Children of the Grave from that album if you want to hear Randy's take on these Sabbath songs. Cheers!

The montage of videos above the comment section you were referencing features a band you have not explored, The Talking Heads. Eclectic, different, almost it's own genre. I believe I mentioned them a long time ago, I think you would absolutely love them. "Once In A Lifetime", "Burning Down The House", a good start.

I think the lyrics are pretty straightforward in reflecting what you read out loud about Ozzy saying that he simply wondered who this guy he kept hearing about was so he did a little research about him. The song basically just wonders who he is and what he really thought and if he really believed in all the occult stuff or not and what he thought about being vilified and so on. I mean, this is even less Satanic than all those Black Sabbath songs that do mention the devil but pearl-clutching family values types never seem to notice that in those songs the devil is always portrayed as a tempter or as someone who is going to punish sinners and evil-doers, just like actual Christian doctrine teaches.

When you received the LP, I thought you were going to go back and put a playlist together for Black Sabbath's first album because there was one or two songs you hadn't heard yet. You said even though you knew most of the songs out of respect that the album was so good as a debut album you wanted to put it on your playlist. That was just a reminder... I'm not a huge Black Sabbath fan and I'd rather see you do more Pete Townsend and other classic rock... but I do have to say I've listened to more Sabbath and Ozzie because of you and I am enjoying them a bit more than I ever have in the past. Thank you.

Ozzy Osborne and Black Sabbath are fine but may I humbly suggest you try more Cream. If you haven’t already, try Sunshine Of Your Love and particularly Crossroads (from the album Wheels Of Fire). You will know Crossroads but this live version is phenomenal. I know you are partial to a bit of guitar and I am certain this would blow your socks off. Go on do it.

I always thought of Ozzy a the anti-hippie. Instead of talking pease, love, and things like other hippie groups sang. He talked about the darker sides life. He did say war was bad; he showed the evils of war. He didn't say we need pease, he said why we needed pease. Even in his solo career; he talks abbot the evils of big business, and how we are looking the planet. Nothing nice or pretty, but dark and dirty.

Yes. Ozzy became quit big solo also. Funny fact that he headlined two shows with his band and Ronnie James Dio refused to perform with Black Sabbath, as a "warm up act" for Ozzy. So Sabbath hired Rob Halford as the singer for those two shows. The year was 1992 i think...

I don't think that is the case at all, yeah ozzy had a solo career after leaving Sabbath, but, sabbath also got Ronnie james Dio and released perhaps one of the All Time Best Albums ever, certianly the best Album in sabbath's career up to that point, ozzy went on to achieve great things, no doubt, but i don't think he in anyway eclipsed sabbath at that point

Im a big fan of BS but I must confess I rather lost interest in Ozzy's new band....BS just had a darker tone about them that appealed to me...these lads are great musicians but much like many other bands....did however, find the subject of this tune fascinating...you can always tell when someone who writes or speaks about Crowley has not actually studied his writings on western magick and mysticism....they merely accept what has been written about him in the media...which is exactly what Crowley cultivated....the knowledge and power that he had tapped into is not for the average person....anyway, thanks for this mate...much enjoyed....peace
