Hey guys! This was performed by Jason Sheppard whom I've collaborated with on the "Highway Star" video. He is a fantastic guitarist and we will be doing future collaborations with some of the heavier stuff that's been requested on the page. I believe he did an amazing job of this and if you'd like to check out his YT page, there is a link in my description. Seeing as we now have the guitar and attire, should we post more Ozzy - Zakk songs? Leave a comment below!
So nice to see all these positive comments. I’m so glad you like it. I’m very thankful to get to work with Mr. Tabs and the fact that it’s entertaining and helping people makes it all the more better! Can’t wait to do more.
This song, in my mind, the best all-around guitar song ever made. Everything about the original - the composition, the solo and especially the guitar tone - is all perfect. So excited to see this here
This song and estranged by guns n roses are the 2 songs I point to when people tell me hard rock and heavy metal aren’t art. You can see the composers brush strokes all over these songs, you hear moments, phrases and changes that exist in these songs purely because 1 person on earth imagined it. This is one of the most amazing replications of no more tears I’ve seen. Congratulations on a magnificent rendition.
Those songs are the tip of the ice berg to that statement. Anyone that thinks that rock and metal are not art are ignorant people and don't know music. Even extreme metal is beautiful as a lot of the more extreme metal has its roots in classical music.
@@billsouza4457 if you honestly believe there is anything even remotely brilliant with the aforementioend lick, then you should consider another hobby.
Ozzy was lucky to have so many monster guitars players to play with him. I mean his lineup was insane. Jake E. Lee, Zakk Wylde, and of course Randy Rhoads. Damn
Zakk Wylde made pentatonic scales and playing exciting again for me back in the early 90's where the harmonic minor shred was still lingering. Loved this song/album and I was lucky enough to meet Zakk who was the nicest guy ever
He played for what felt like half an hour when I saw Ozzy in 2006. Ozzy had to take a break or whatever but zakk stayed out and did a rendition of the star spangled banner just like Hendrix and just jammed with the rest of the band. He is awesome
Yes it seems like Zakk along with Slash and Dime really brought the pentatonics back in a big way. And it’s a good thing because it’s a great sounding scale, particularly when you add the flat 5th!
Man, if only I was born a decade earlier. I was only 2 that year, wish I could go back because that year has some of the best albums of all time imo. Gnr, Metallica, nirvana, RHCP, and more

Man watching this makes me appreciate the guitar work that went into this song. They don't make em like this anymore. Also excellent job to the guy nailing this on guitar.
Thanks. I’m always super aware of my vibrato. Zakk was a huge influence for that. Learned the mechanics of vibrato from watching Live at Donnington (AC/DC) believe it or not!
@@jasonsheppard7428 I didn't even realize that this was "guest spot" until just now. Great job on this, for real!! I'm on my way to give you a follow right now!
Mr Tabs I say this for all of your videos, thank you so much.. and you truly are a very talented individual... may the good you put out into the world come back to you 10 times over.. thx u
Mr. Tabs, fantastic playing. Sometimes I grab a guitar and take a lesson and sometimes I just admire your playing (and tone which is usually spot on). I've watched many lessons on-line and what I love about your is you just get to it. Great job and thanks!
Hi I commented on you battery by metallica video and you replied saying that I have been chosen for a prize. How exactly do I get the prize. Where do I contact you
Would love it if you could try Perry Mason. Love the playing in that. And have you ever considered doing some slash's snakepit stuff? So many great songs across the 2 albums to choose from. 👍
I love Perry Mason. Take a listen to the demo version. The guitars are less fuzzy.. more like the No More Tears tone. There are a few great songs on that album. I love Tomorrow!
Is there a tonal difference between a brass slide and a glass slide. Granted, I'm a novice slide player, but I pretty much have to play the slide parts with a barred finger cuz I can't get it to sound correct.
Not sure what the tonal differences are but I’m sure they do sound different. Brass being likely the rougher sounding option. It’s tricky to get proper intonation. It’s a whole new technique. Keep at it and I’m sure you’ll master it!
Could you possibly do a series on this album it would be so amazing just think of it time after time mr tinkertrain that would be awesome love your videos rock on
I'm glad it's helping. Thats the main goal. A lot of work goes into this and the fact that it helps people is the reward. The fact that you can slow the videos down helps a lot too!
Years ago I played this song. Playing that solo was probably the pinnacle of my guitar playing prowess. I could do it again if I put in the effort, and this inspires me to do it again.
The tone is spot on on this, great job guys. I'm curious whether Jason plays with a small pick or just with his nails, I can't see what he's using... Also, yes please to more Ozzy / Zack (Mr Tinkertrain pretty please)
Hey! Thanks for watching. I used a Dunlop Primetone Jazz III in this video. I often go back and fourth between these and the regular amber Ultex Jazz III picks. I love their consistent and immediate attack and the fact that they last a long time.
Hey! You tune the whole guitar down a half step. Then tune the lowest string down an additional full step! So Db, Ab, Db, Gb, Bb, Eb (from thickest to thinnest strings)

Damn I wish I had youtube when I was a kid. I would know all my favorite songs!!! My favorite guitarist back in the day was SRV, Dimebag, and Wylde!!! I just recently got back into guitar after my heart attacks, and I forgot how much lI loved it!! Tutorials like this are so amazing! Much love to you all!!!😅

Not familiar w/ Patreon enough to know it's value but I'm interested after watching this video. Holy shit this guy has it down!! LOL I've got most all of it down, but would like a few things explained & know what pedal(s) he's using. I've got close w/ some Keeley & Boss pedals I have. Can someone tell me if I sign up for the Patreon what other songs he is showing and how in-depth he gets on the lesson plz? Amazing job Jason!! TIA
2 things to slice my comment: 1st You nailed it man! great work - 2nd I did not expect those EMGhz to sound that good! I think part is your playing skills, but in the voice and eq of those pickups, is there a great sound thou
Hey thanks for the comment! I was pleased with the EMGs too. But I don’t really think about the pickups much. They all definitely have their own characteristics but as long as they work I find I can get my “sound” from them. The squeals do seem to come out of them easily though!
Great job bro. Very clean and well played. I've never played this tune and I found funny the constant gymnastics with the capo on, off, on, off, on, off, ... ^^
Hahaha it was tough! Especially because wearing a slide is so foreign to me. I might have played slide for maybe an hour or two in my whole life. For this song and one other Ozzy song that I did on my channel. Haha
Hello, thanks for all your videos, they help me so much on some covers : ) But... have you ever think to play some toto or steve lukather, maybe afraid ?
Typically I don't such faithful recreations of a song. I mean the tone wasn't exactly the same, which is not necessarily relevant, but the playing and technique was superb.
Beautifully done! Kudos to Jason for this great rendition of a great song. For us guitarists it's easy to see that the instrument is an extension of himself. I do have one possibly strange and musically unrelated question, but where did he get these sick bracers? 1. They look cool and 2. ( more important to me) they seem comfortable enough to play the guitar with.
I think they were ordered online. Honestly if I were to wear bracers live I might choose a different set as these are actually SUPER uncomfortable! They are very hard and they move around a lot. Maybe a softer material would be better? Thanks for the kind words!
@@jasonsheppard7428 I tend to play with bracers on my wrists, but I'm yet to find comfortable ones. I'll look up a softer leather as you suggested. Thanks for the reply, and keep up the good work!
I thought every time the slide went down you werre reaching for a beer to chug like Zakk used to do in the old days of boozing lol and thanks for fast forwarding to the solo
This is absolutely amazing! 🤩 I was wondering if you could add in the description of your videos which guitar you use and perhaps if/when you use an fx/distortion pedal which one it is to get the perfect sound for the songs, so we would know what we need to reach this sound too? Thank you so much for your great hard work! You are awesome! 😁🤘
The guitar I used in this video is an Epiphone Zakk Wylde Custom model. It has EMG HZ pickups instead of the standard EMG 81/85 combo found in the Gibson models but i have to say, I'm very impressed with the tone of these. Nice and sharp sounding. If performing on an actual amp, I guess anything closely related to a Marshall JCM800 boosted with a Boss SD-1 will get you in the ballpark for sure. I know zakk likely doubled it in the studio but you can get close to this effect by using a chorus pedal. Zakk used one of the Boss ones (Super chorus or Chorus Ensemble). I've seen pictures of his pedalboard that had a Chorus Ensemble on it but have read that the super chorus was also used. He probably wasn't too picky and Boss pedals are cheap and certainly road worthy! I hope this helps and thanks for your kind words and interest in the channel!
