"In 1977, a singer/song writer/producer by the name of Chris Sedgwick asked his close friend Ozzy Osbourne, who was living in the U.K., to sing back-up vocals on a cover of the ANIMALS song 'Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood'. Ozzy complied, and along with the help of some local musicians by the name of Benjamin Marcus, and Caldwell, the track was laid down and pressed on a 7" vinyl single, and distributed under the label Birmingham Free Music to local pubs to be played in the jukeboxes. The B-side of this single contained a song entitled 'Have You Ever Bin Loved' which was sung by Chris Sedgwick alone (no Ozzy). It is said that only 100 copies were pressed, of which most were destroyed in a fire. "This song ['Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood'] has remained unheard for almost the last 30 years...until now.
That doesn't quite make sense as Juke boxes rook records with a large hole in the middle in order for the mechanism to grip onto them. 7" singles pressed specifically for juke boxes were made with the large hole. They had to have an adapter (called a spider) if you wanted to play them on anything other than a juke box. Singles pressed for home use with the option of jukebox use had some cut-outs around the middle so you could break the centre out by pushing it with your thumbs and create the larger hole required for the juke box to be able to grip it. you could still clip a spider in if you wanted to play it at home later. However, the photo of the record on this video shows a completely solid pressing with no option to break out the middle for a jukebox. This would suggest it was only ever intended for home (or possibly DJ) use.
I'm surprised how many people don't know the original oh, no offense that these people but Burton was a monster vocalist and the original blows this all out the water not that this is bad
Only great thing about the internet is once in a while you stumble upon a lost mindblowing gem like this,Ozzy Sabbath head here and this is like christmas morning ❤
I really love Ozzy's line "I'm just a soul who's intentions are good, oh lord please don't let me be misunderstood." I think Ozzy's voice is very underrated. It's different but unique and very very hard to copy. I've tried to cover, and karaoke his songs and it is very difficult.
Is this reminding anyone else of "You Wont Change Me" off Technical Ecstacy? Same key, similar vocal lines.... maybe this arrangement served as a inspiration to an extent?
This arrangement definitely has the sound of Oz's last two albums with BS. What a crazy period it was from '75-79 for rock bands. Little did anyone know the early 80's metal scene would completely blow the roof off the genre and provide us some amazing masterpieces.
3 minutes of happiness! Ozzy sings very earnestly, his voice is magic! I compared this song with other artists, but only Ozzy so sensually sings .. Love it !!!!!!
I worked with Chris Sedgwick in the second incarnation of free music and i have this single ..he gave me a copy. most of them were destroyed in a warehouse fire..
@@user-gr6tl5xh6t i haven't got a record player unfortunately .. its quite rare this record could be worth something in years to come .. I remember him telling me the story about it years ago .
Jody - Jim Norton (Jim & Sam Show on Sirius XM / O&A fame) mentioned he loved your dad's version on the show today. I'm sure he'd like to have you on the program to chat about the track's origins, etc.
ohh fuck! i've been seraching this song for a very long time ago!!! a part of this song was on the menu of my ozzy camden 2003 dvd and i never knew what song was that!!! manymany thanks for this rare song! :D
ozzy singing lead here my friend dennis macarten r.i.p told me he played bass on this he showed me the single he played in necromandus who minus there singer were ozzys very first. briefly blizzard of ozz.
How has this escaped my ears for so long? There needs to be a release of ALL the Ozzy era outtakes/ b sides/demos/ outside recordings etc. For sure it would be better than that garbage 13 lp that unfortunately is Sabbath's epitaph.
Sounds like ozzy is just singing backing/guesting as he only sings the chorus. Anyhow, sounds like a polished 70s chart song. The Animals raw bluesy version is better.
