After much work, the P-36 LiteFighter project rumbles to life! Our Verner 7U radial engine installation gets put to the test in this quick video of our first run.
The Verner 7 cylinder radial engine is factory new, setup with the standard carb, dual ignition, and is fed from left and right wing tanks. We're spinning a 3-blade NR Prop customized for our direct drive engine, with classic rounded tip profiles.
Because this is a first run, Sam only takes it to about half throttle, reading approx. 1100rpm. We will do a few more quick runs to make sure the installation effort is complete before moving the P-36 to the airport for final assembly and more serious testing!

Beautiful! It looks so good, I can’t wait to see what the next few months bring as it comes closer to completion. Hopefully it will be flown to Sun N Fun in 2022

I love that radial sound. That really looks like a cool project. Are you guys doing retracts on the prototype? Can't wait to see (and hear) her fly...

This version has fixed gear. After it flies we'll start working on fabricating the retractable gear, probably will end up on the next prototype.

Whats the estimated pricetag? any timeline for when the retracts should be ready?

Our estimated price tag will be $40k USD for the airframe kit. Add to it: engine, prop, exhaust, mount, oil tank, avionics, instruments, paint, misc. Looking at $75k +/-.

retracts will be 6 to 9 months and retrofitable to beta kits and fully available for standard kits.

Nice plane! However... A typical wing will put more weight behind the CG than in front of it. Especially in three-point attitude. Then there is no tail, making the plane even more nose-heavy And then there is the fact that no tail also means no way to pull on the stick to get some extra tail-down force. The engine thrust line sits above the wheels, wanting to flip the plane on its nose. I don't see the tail being held down. Just held back. Looks to me that you are lucky that you didn't put the plane on its nose as soon as you started the engine....

Yes we are, but we were very careful to only run it at 500 to 1000 rpm. We are taking it to the hangar next week and installing tail and wings. Tie-down the tail and get some stronger runs. Adjust prop to best static rpm.
