I would say you fellas that have bought this plane need to double check your motor box and epoxy it! That was not glued well enough from factory. I think it was a good thing it fell off in shipping not during flight.

Agreed! Looks like the box was glued to the mount in just two places, where there now is broken wood. A proper glue joint is stronger than the wood, so broken wood all around should be expected. Now of course, if that joint would have been glued to the max, something else might have broken and the repair could have been much more involved. Sometimes it's good to engineer in easily repaired weak spots. But I don't think it's weak on purpose in this case. A hard landing could have cracked that too, and the motor escape from the airframe on the next flight. That would likely have been the end of the story.

Your enthusiasm is infectious! Balsa still has its place; it’s going to give you the lightest airframe, especially those purpose-built for electric. As for foam, I miss the old EPS airframes for their relative light weight despite the fragility.

I always go over every balsa model I buy and add more CA at critical points because I had the motor mount come unglued on an ARF years ago and it destroyed the plane on the crash. I fly 3d so I'm very hard on the models. I love Extreme Flight planes the best. Keep up the great work gentlemen and I wish you a Merry Christmas!

Extreme flight 74" yak Yellow/black was the best plane I ever brought...30cc AMS engine beautiful flyer...had it five years before I had brain fade and stuffed it into the ground..😋😋...sadly they never made any more 74"...

This is a great video!!! I had a friend who's father was a P47 WWII fighter pilot Mr. Essenfelder (not sure I spelled his name correctly). The story goes, he was in a dog fight with a German ace I think in a 109 and was shot down. When the German pilot found out Mr. Essenfelder lived through the crash the German pilot found him in a prison camp and got him out. He took him to his personal doctor and probably saved his life. Mr. Essenfelder told me this story and I ask why the German pilot did that and he replied there is a strange brotherhood between fighter pilots. I asked him if he ever tried to find the German pilot and thank him, he said he did but he was KIA right before the war ended. When you fly this P47 do it the memory of Mr. Essenfelder he would have really enjoyed it.

Even if this is a easy fixable damage, happend during shipping… I can’t understand why they just do not make a stronger engine mount, instead of adding so may trim weights. On the Petrincic Scale from (9,5 to 10) I would rate this construction with 5. 😉

I'd say you were fortunate to have found this BEFORE the maiden and not during. Someone mentioned going around and hitting all the critical joints with another shot of glue or whatever. Not a bad idea when some weak joint like this is waiting to fail in the air. Nice plane though and thanks for the vido. Russ NC/USA

One of my favourite warbirds, P47. I just love the chunky fuselage. I think the motor mount /bulkhead looks a bit flimsy anyway on this. I would reinforce it a bit from behind with a couple of strips of hardwood or something. Otherwise, this looks great! An excellent unboxing review, as ever. Big salute from London.

I was lucky enough to see a real p-47 fly in an airshow in my town with my father (God rest his soul) and i have never before or since, heard a sound that was as sexy as that giant raidial engine as it went over our heads! But at the same time i could imagine how fearful i hearing that deep gutteral growl would make me if i knew that it was coming after me! A truely amazing aircraft to see in the sky! They use just enough glue to get it to the customer. Kit balsa planes are so rare. you should build a large balsa plane kit on your channel!

Hey Guys, just a heads up, I bought this plane over a month ago and had the same issue with the motor box while unboxing, it’s a known issue with horizon, the glued sections on the motor box is the issue, you can call horizon and they will send you out a new motor box. Knowing that there is an issue with glued sections on the motor box, I went over the entire fuselage with CA glue. Then I flew the plane and trying landing on the grass and the landing gear folded backwards and damaged the wing covering. So I had to order more ultra cote and fix. Also went over the wings where the landing gear separated and epoxied the crap out of it. I my opinion they were lacking in quality control in their operations in china. For $500, they could have done a better job on this issue. Good luck on your maiden flight. Hope you don’t have any issues with your gear. Tony

Beautiful plane, it’s very sexi indeed. It would be a perfect choice for adding to the hangar. I hope you bring it to the runway very soon. Now the shipping damage is so annoying but this one luckily is an easy fix with some epoxy on. Last week I received the big Sky Flight Hobby Corsair and although it was a box in a box for transport, the shipping company managed to badly damage the box. The middle wing part was warped badly and horizontal stabilizer did not survive in one piece. Anyway. This P-47 is something special in the balsa and I bet it flies really good !

Good thing it fell off when it did. Unless you can see other evidence of bad shipping, then it probably was not glued well from the start. If it was glued enough to stay on, and then came off during flight, it would have been so much worse... and much harder to prove it was a factory default. Anyone who gets this plane should give the motor mount and firewall a good tug. If you can't pull it off, then all ok. Great video... looking forward to your first flight. Cheers.

That motor does not look like it was well glued in the first place. You are lucky it came off in the box as it may have come off in flight! With Petrincic gluing, it will fly great!

Box didn’t look damaged. Probably was dropped at some point but it should have been glued better. Quality is an issue from time to time with any planes. Easy fix but best to double check every time. PNP is convenient but not without risk. HH needs to do better for the price but boy they make some nice planes. I have a bunch myself.

Brittle glue joints with demanding lead weights caused stress to the connected wood junctions. The box packing lacked mass stability for the mount. Note it says no glue required on the box.

The fact that it broke/came apart where it did might suggest that this is a weak point on the plane. It might be wise to reinforce the repair even if it adds a bit of weight. I'm looking forward to seeing it in the air on its maiden flight.

Glad it Broke before the First Flight. It could be Hard to say it was Hangar fault for the Crash. Bad Quality Control and Glueing Team. May Hangar should change there Glue.

Shame that it was delivered broken. An easy fix, but disappointing. All the lead weights attached to the motor-mount put stress on the joints. Logic should dictate the motor-mount, front firewall, and anywhere this joins the fuselage be beefed up. If the plywood was doubled in this area it would still need the additional weight. To be honest…When I see that much lead on a model, I think it’s a cheap and nasty fix. The lead is behind the motor, so a larger motor would balance the plane with less overall weight. Thanks for not trying to hid faults in your reviews. Merry Christmas.

The “motor cover” lol. Very nice warbird, please please stay away from it with your black spray paint! Get a professional with an airbrush and finish this to museum standards to have something really special to be proud of. The H9 PnP Jug is not very scale but it can be made to look very good. The whole motor box coming unglued is a big concern, that is meant to be the most secure bond on the whole bird, go through all the bonds and assemblies and check them.

No need to send such an easy fix like that back. If a pilot can’t epoxy that back in…. Well he shouldn’t be flying RC planes. Don’t get me wrong. It should not arrive that way. And the factory should do a better job of glueing it. But I wouldn’t say on your channel what a dealer or manufacturer would do. Such as give them a call and they will ship you a new one.
