P-61 Black Widow  

Thank you very much for you advice on how to proceed with the assembly steps. I started this model and then decided to look for extra instructions. Luckily I found your video before I got very far.

I've built this kit 5 times since I was a kid and have always loved building it even with all of it's quirks. I still have one in the box unbuilt! I really enjoyed watching you build this one came out great!

I got this model for Christmas , first time I built a model since being a teenager ,thank you for this video it help a lot

In the late 70s my uncle had literally every aircraft model of all sides of WW2. OK, not all but at least 30 and when you're 5 that seems like a lot. Anyway this one was always my favorite. What a unique, rare bird. Very cool.

I built this kit when it first came out in the 1960s. Same scale. The new version you are building is more elaborate. You could only build it one way when first released. No adjustable flaps, no drop tanks, no nose-mounted radar, and I dont think the cockpit interior was as detailed. Glad more attention is on this kit. The Black Widow is a lesser known WW2 US plane, was very effective and deserves to be remembered. Really enjoy your site. The tips are very useful. Thanks

i built it in august 1986 then it got destory in North Carolina back 1999 ten years later i went get another one to build it again this come out much better and still have today.

Awesome job! Look fantastic. Just so you know they were painted gloss black, and a semi gloss would have been a more realistic weathered look than all out flat. But your build looks great.

I think I had this kit as a kid in the seventies. Am I crazy or did it come with a few ground crew guys? I think one of them was working off a cockpit ladder. I remember the decals were of a half naked woman. I found them quite cheeky at the time! I also remember feeling it was a little above my skill sets at the time.😂👍💪

Built this kit last year in army air force olive drab/gray...i did the night version 30 years ago. Had the same fit issues with the canopy last year and 30 years ago...i must be doing something wrong 😂 Thanks for posting Doug

I've built this kit a couple times. Sorry you've had so may issues with the front gear bay/nose area assembly. If memory serves me correctly, the two that I built had me assemble and place those way before step 13. maybe they changed the direction sheet or there was an error in printing. As these kits age, they get the point they're re released so many times they need to update the directions and sometimes decals. I've never had an issue with anything on this kit, save where to put it when it's completed! :) Thx for the build video and reminding everyone what a great kit it is!

I guess it depends on the set of instructions you get with your model because I've seen others that instruct you to install the nose gear as you close the two halves of the fuselage. I did a lot of research before I decided on a paint scheme and discovered that many of these planes were painted more of an olive drab for the interior and the pilots control panel was usually all black with white dials and numbers and all were backlit red. It makes sense for a night fighter. The center part of the antenna by the pilot was black also.

This may have been a tough build, but you did a great job. Great detail

Many thanks for your video. I came looking for examples of military ammo (Is it brass or other?) and came out happy I did not glue the two halves together. Note to all: Add some lead to the nose (not sure you mentioned that). Your build looks great!

Wow, that was thrilling to watch but there is no way I would find that a fun kit to build. I think I will stick to automotive kits for building and all other kits for viewing pleasure only. Take good care and be well and safe..

Great job. I'm building one with everything closed up in flight mode. Unfortunately this means working to iron out the details with the canopy fit problems. Bad fit is an understatement.

This kit is the same exact kit as the Revell Germany kit.The only difference between the two kits,is the Revell USA kit,has a few extra parts that the Revell Germany kit does not include.Both issues of this kit are a skill level 5 for the advanced modeler.The Revell Germany issue of this kit may have 10 less parts;than the Revell USA issue,the Revell Germany issue does have more intricate fine detail;than the Revell USA issue. It is this difference in overall detail,that separates the two kits;with the MSRP of the Revell Germany kit being $45.00,vs. the MSRP of the Revell USA kit being $30.00.I think there is a photoetched,resin,white metal,turned metal Browning .50 BMG machine gun/20 mm Orelicon auto cannon barrels,& resin detail up set for both the Revell USA and Revell Germany kits;to further enhance the detail of both kits. Fun fact,the P-61 Black Widow night fighter is one of the rarest vintage aircraft in the world today,with two fully restored examples on display in museums,and three more examples have been fully restored to air worthy condition/status.There was once a total of only four P-61 Black Widow night fighters left in the world;with two on display in two aviation museums,and the other two being air worthy. Today there are now five examples in existence two examples still on display in aviation museums,and three that are air worthy.

I'm currently building this kit and I am trying to adjust the figures so I can have them in their positions, but they're too big and don't fit in the plane, but other than that it's an amazing kit

So i really am not to detailed when i do mine, and im kinda impatient. I did a P 40 as my first non snap together model, and i used cement. It took way to long, so ever since i have used hot glue. If you get it right, it works just as good. Just a tip if you don't like waiting weeks to do these for everything to dry
