HI, I'm a plumber in NSW Australia. I really enjoy your videos and the use of boilers and radiators is something we don't do here. We haven't been allowed to soft solder gas since the late 1980's. Silver brazing is the standard, however press fit is now popular.

I'm a new subscriber from Maine in the US. I watch Mikey pipes and a few other heating and plumbing from the US. They get a lot of comments from viewers in the UK and other parts of Europe saying how unnecessarily over engineered our systems are here. I want to see how you guys do it. I'm a semi-retired carpenter, 47 years pounding nails, so I have been involved with heating systems. So far, I like your videos and once I figure out your lingo and who people are, I'll really enjoy your channel.

Top marks to Craig for his bravery and letting us see his work and the leaks and I hope he has a good future in the trade. Sam seems to be doing well to, getting 100% nice work. Are you struggling to get certain parts? I’m doing a full bathroom upgrade and the customer suddenly decided to up the game on his showers and wants me to add another tank and a bigger pump to boost the new shower and the en-suite shower but I’m having to wait a week for the tank and I’m still waiting for many of the parts that were already ordered. This job is gonna drag for another couple of weeks I’m sure of it. The best one is his fancy wall cupboard with lights and usb which I can’t have till middle of next month. It’s doing my swede in.

If you have to wipe the cold snot off. cool the joint and full wellie on the gas, you can do it with water in the pipe if you want with map. Slowley heating it just heats the joint up too. If its hot snot use your moleskin or a dry leather.

Curious about if you ever use CSST for your gas piping? Here in the US that's about all we use now. Previously was all black steel pipe and occasionally soft copper tubing but the 15% silver brazing rods. Never seen soft Solder on gas pipe. Craig wouldn't worry about that joint. Sometimes the fitting itself can be a bit troublesome. I notice some plumbers/gas engineer's only clean either pipe or the fitting and flux one accordingly. When I went through my training it was both, seems to work for me. Plus you will develop a "gut feeling" for joints your not happy with more so on water tie-ins. Tends to be over sensitive thought. A few times I've striped and re-made a joint to find nothing wrong D'oh!

@richardpalliser7495
@richardpalliser7495 3 года назад
FairPlay to Craig, keep at it brother. Personally, I’d use ‘normal’ bottle gas, Map gas is far to hot for standard gauge copper. Back in the day, only refrigeration boys used it, then it crept into mainstream, odd one. Gets too hot, too fast on small gauge, as has been said before, solder will just sit on top and boil, not run. Confined space, asking for it 😐 Just my thoughts, sure I’ll get torn a new ass for them lol.
@YagiChanDan
@YagiChanDan 3 года назад
PB, why are you using zone valves as well as pumps for two heating circuits? I would have just used check valves and pumps. Less to go wrong then. I'm gearing up for a 1500 square metre house with 5 hydraulic circuits plus hot water... Not a zone valve in sight.
@Ro55stw
@Ro55stw 3 года назад
I have never done underfloor heating but is it not so you can have have individual zones and you don’t need to heat the full house?
@YagiChanDan
@YagiChanDan 3 года назад
@@Ro55stw with underfloor heating, zone valves are a terrible idea anyway, but what I'm referring to is that you don't need a zone valve if you're using individual pumps for a hydraulic circuit. You can use a check valve with a pump so you only get heat going through the circuit with the active pump. You need relays in the wiring Centre to replace the end switches in your missing zone valves, but these are much more reliable (rated for millions of operations), so you end up with a much simpler, therefore reliable system.
@dennisphoenix1
@dennisphoenix1 3 года назад
@@YagiChanDan most people probably wouldn't think of doing that. It's just do what you always do and it works. Not a bad idea though 😉
@Ro55stw
@Ro55stw 3 года назад
@@YagiChanDan that doesn’t sound right but I have been plumbing for 25 year and never done a single underfloor system so. I am sure other people will comment
@YagiChanDan
@YagiChanDan 3 года назад
@@Ro55stw which bit doesn't sound right? Zone valves on UFH? The reason they're a bad idea (talking about Syncron motor types) is that ufh can run all day, sometimes longer. They're not rated for continuous use. They will and often do seize open giving a constant run signal to the boiler. This is especially so with compensated heating systems. Now compensated heating is more prevelant and heat pumps increasing in number this will become even more common. I keep a stock of 1" & 3/4" valves that take thermoelectric actuators where a zone valve is needed. Not good for hot water though. Pumps are perfectly happy going constantly so the system becomes intrinsically more reliable. If you look on my company website (jheating Co UK) you can see an Atag installation in the gallery I did a few years ago that is based on this principle. I'll update it with the one I referred to above when we get started next month. Two x 49kW Viessmanns on a cascade. On my RU-vid channel I have a video of one we finished recently with a brace of Intergas.
