I can't think of any restrictions they had on this cruise. You did have to book all entertainment, but I think that's because the cruise was fully booked! Thanks a lot, many more videos coming
Blimey.. Choosing a school holiday cruise to cruise Solo in a Balcony.. That must have cost you a fortune. You should keep an eye out for the Winter MSC sailing from Southampton, they often have cheap solo deals in the winter months and the virtuoso class ships are really lovely. Would make a good video series. We like Britannia but it really lacks hot tubs which is a shame and the missing central staircase means lifts are in short supply around the atrium but the Adult pool and sunset bar are lovely places on the ship.
I'll go over the cost breakdown in more detail in the disembarkation vlog but from what I remember it was around £2,500 for two weeks! Balcony was the only grade left (I booked quite late). Arvia's similar itinerary was around £1,300 but was the same ports as my Iona cruise in January. Thanks for the tips about MSC, I have got my eye on them for a future cruise, just not found an itinerary that's worked out yet. Britannia is dated compared to the new "modern" ships. Limited outdoor space is always a disadvantage in my opinion.
The new ships like Arvia and Iona are lovely and have lots of choice on board.... but in the Summer school holiday times they are very very busy. More so than Britannia, Azura etc. We always found the sunset bar on Britannia peaceful especially in the evenings and the Adult only area was always nice. £2500 is really expensive, but cruises often charge as much for a solo traveller as a couple which is crazy. Re trips there are lots of options that are not cruise line. We have had amazing trips for not much money booking with companies like Viator and in places Like Zeebrugge, Rome , and many more there are good cheap public transport options. For MSC they have some winter cruises for as low as £350 for a week in Northern Europe this year and if they are struggling to fill places they are likely to offer cheap single rates soon. Worth a look..
That makes sense as the larger ships tend to have cheaper "per day" prices... that's what I've found anyway. Do they feel busier? I would have imagined that due to the extra outdoor spaces people would be more spread out, despite there being more onboard. The supplement is the biggest issue but sometimes I get lucky with a good price. Arvia is £15k for 15-nights and Infinity is £12k for 10-nights so not too bad I think. I think the idea of me being abroad alone has limited my experience. It was only a couple months ago where I managed to get data abroad so for the first three solo-cruises I had literally nothing to fall back on (so tended to stay pretty close to the ship). I've taken this as an opportunity to show "free" things you can do in port but am looking to move to more exciting things going forward.
Bay of Biscay most often than not is choppy ! Nice to see people dressing up for the celebration night ! Not jealous at all hearing about your future cruises! Only 2 weeks before I go on QM2 for taster cruise 3 nights so looking forward to that one 😊
It has a bit of a reputation these days... definitely a lot rougher on the way back 🙃 there was a fair few this cruise who did! Ah those two weeks will fly by, have a great cruise 🛳
@@CaptureCruising that was our first cruise. I would go again but it was spoiled by events beyond our control. Unfortunately my wife had bad head cold first week, me the second. My father was in hospital and took a turn for worse and my son informed us he was hanging on for our return. He passed two weeks after our return. Then the ship was diverted to assist a capsized migrant boat, 16 brought aboard but sadly we saw some dead in the water which upset us all. So my first cruise was memorable for all the wrong reasons. But we loved the luxury of the ship 🚢
I'm sorry to hear about the difficult experiences you faced on your first cruise. It must have been a challenging time for yourself and your family that I can only imagine was made worse by the fact that you were away. What you witnessed is something that many never will and I can only imagine this to be an upsetting time for everyone there. If you decide to go on another cruise in the future, then I hope it will be a positive memorable experience for you and your family.
I find it hard to film in strong winds as well. How was the webpage for booking stuff on board? I was on her when she was new. Nice cabin tour you did.
Booking stuff on the Web page was ok from what I remember. There wasn't many back spots for coverage, except maybe some outdoor areas up top. Appreciate the support!
It was definitely a lot rougher in the Bay of Biscay coming back for us on Anthem! Rumour has it they ran out of seasickness tablets! The motion doesn’t really bother me though, I quite enjoyed it 😂
That wouldn't surprise me.. I know Britannia was running low on their "motion discomfort bags" as well 😂 I've never been affected by the sea but I have to admit I did feel a little rough on the way back... only a tiny bit though 😂 strange because I've definitely been in a lot rougher conditions before
Liked the moody intro. Britannia is starting to look a bit old with the rust. Will be interesting to see what Celebrity is like and of course the October Caribbean crossing😵💫🧊
I was going for the Hollywood style 😂 it needs a bit of love in places for sure. 2019 was the last refit so should be due for one. I'm curious how they will both play out, both different from what I've done before 😃
That's awful, no need for behaviour like that. Luckily I did see the crew trying to tackle this issue by removing towels and leaving notices asking people to stop
I didn’t think celebration night clashed with bay of biscay. On my next cruise celebration night is on day 3 not 2 for this reason 😅. Must remember my puke pills 😅. Looks fab I love the atmosphere in the atrium. It’s my very favourite atrium out of every ship I’ve been on even other lines 😊😊
Unfortunately the formal night on the way back also clashed with the Bay... was a lot rougher too 🙂 don't worry about the pills, P&O are more than happy to provide a little bag for you 😂 it's a very spacious Atrium, definitely up there but I have to admit Iona is slightly better.. only because you can still see the sea from the Atrium 🌊
Pills don't work for us for seasickness! We go to the doctor on board and get the injection works for 2 weeks, tell them you have been sick and can't keep anything down, our friend had the pills and felt sick for days ! Yes you have to pay but we claim on our travel insurance. Don't suffer if you don't have to x
