We were amazed that you could take alcohol on! Talking as someone who used to work on ships, trying to get any alcohol on was a challenge! I think we'd take a package on a hot cruise, but definitely not on a cold one. Were not posh coffee drinkers. There are some crazy rules within the P&O packages! Great breakdown and one we'll be returning to before we cruise with P&O again. Cheers 🍻

Hey both! It’s such minefield I had to double check everything probarly still got something wrong. I agree would only get the package with a few sea days and in the sun. Look forward to finding out when your next cruise is!! Cheers both 🍻

So I can take aboard unlimited fever tree tonics and buy a bottle of Bombay Gin, when required, from the room service menu for £26, which is cheaper than UK supermarkets (when not on offer)! Sounds good to me ...

In my experience then never check. I was on Arvia in the Caribbean last year and bought local rum in each port for presents to take home. I fully expected security to take them from me to be stored until Southampton but no one ever showed any interest so I ended up with 5 bottles of rum in my cabin

Hey, yes it’s seems very casual on the old drink checking interesting to see if it changes! Five bottles of rum now that sounds like a crossing I would enjoy 😁

Dont think you mentioned that the drinks package resrict you to 15 drinks over a given period ( 24 hours i think) basic rule is you need to drink 8/9 drinks per Day to make it viable , after that your in pocket !!

On Azura last year we brought drinks on at each port without any issue. On Ventura last week we couldn’t have the drinks package as it was only for 4 nights. We took 4 bottles of wine on (2 non drinkers helped us out) and loads of soft drinks. So we only spent £34.75 pppn!

The biggest change for us was the fact that we used to get the Refresh package for the kids free of charge with each paying adult. We tend to book 2 cabins, father and son in one and mum and daughter in the other (next to each other or opposite), but now we have to pay full adult price for both kids which is ridiculous. Of course if we all shared one cabin, we'd only have to pay for 2 adults and the kids drinks would be free, can't see the logic as we're already paying more to have 2 cabins!

Hey thanks for watching and commenting. Until I started researching the packages for this video I wasn’t aware of this and to be honest I was amazed. Like you probably in next few years will start having separate cabins and it seems crazy that a child would have to pay full price but benefit little from it! Seems a bit unfair on single parents as well, not a good change. Would this make think twice about the package?

@@cruisingwiththe4bs We stumbled across it when looking to book a 2026 cruise, the price to add drinks was double what we paid on our last one so I thought I'd better look into the new T&Cs. This made me panic as were going on Iona in August and I was hanging fire to buy the drinks package onboard with our OBC and didn't want to pay double, so I ended up paying for the drinks package on my card in 'My P&O Cruises' as that still was showing at the price we paid last time, so they obviously honour it on existing bookings! Phew..... 😅 The only problem now will be stopping the kids from spending all the OBC at the giftshop! 😉

On azura last week we just took wine on but the chap in front of us bought gin, vodka and whiskey with all the mixers in shop after checkin and on boarding no-one checked anything. So we nipped off and got some aperol 😀 I'm guessing they are having a period of grace.

We don’t think it’s a bad think that they’ve changed the rules. Do any other cruise lines allow you to take spirits on board? We only ever take a couple of bottles of wine and we’re happy with that. The drinks package isn’t worth it for us

We had the commodores wine package last time on Arvia and didnt bother with any other drinks package. We reckon we did the two week cruise for about £850 but apart from a bottle of wine with our evening meal had what we wanted when we wanted. usually vodka and cokes for my wife and Old Fashioneds for myself in the evenings (or a gin flight) .. cider or beer day time on sea days or after a shore day... we were definately better off financially and probably health wise doing it like this.

@@cruisingwiththe4bs this is so true. I’m a drinker and admit to being a big drinker on holiday but I still didn’t spend as much on pay as you go as the package would have cost. On our 14 night Transatlantic we actually saw drinks package people looking fed up grimly trying to drink their money’s worth day in day out (people by that stage were just abandoning drinks virtually untouched). Unless you have the drinking prowess of an Oliver Reed it simply isn’t worth it.

@@gerardmackay8909 💯 agree with you and think we can all be guilty of doing that on a drinks package and does enhance our cruise for most of us , no. Did you enjoy the transatlantic? it’s on a list at some point.

We have done the QM2 a couple of times to New York and loved it and Arvia sailing back from the Caribbean in March 23 was great (luckily we had perfect weather and glass calm seas, from what I’ve seen of Ben and Gareth’s video the March 24 crossing was a lot bumpier) anyway the 6 days from the Caribbean to Tenerife is in gorgeous tropical conditions and just keep fingers crossed for the 4 days north and the Bay of Biscay. Anyway can definitely recommend it.

I’m going away next week and this has just ruined my holiday. If there was anyway I could cancel I would. I literally can’t have a single drink on holiday all week because they don’t serve anything I like…. Great. Thanks P&O.

The only surprise is that it took Carnival 20 years to bring P&O Cruises UK into line with the rest of the Carnival Corporation companies. for drinks, packages

@@cruisingwiththe4bs Yes, you're right. It will be interesting to see how they manage the new drink restrictions on P&O UK. As for me, it doesn't really affect me. I'm used to similar restrictions on other cruise lines, so quite often go on Princess and Cunard. and the similar restrictions on Fred Olsen Cruise Lines as well.

All passengers going ashore should return to the ship with one can of Beer/Lager, that would be a nightmare for P&O to admin. Just think about the chaos after around 6 port visits. :)

Drinks packages don't work for us,we have drinks when we want & end up with a bill well below the cost of a package. As for taking drink on board a litre of Jamesons Irish falling over water is cheaper on board than in most UK shops so there is no point!

It's all TOO COMPLICATED. I hate how some companies try to fleece you once you have cornered. It's the same in the Maldives. Just as well we don't drink much at all. Sparkling water for me 95% of the time. So - they can keep their drinks packages.

@@cruisingwiththe4bs I can imagine - I am spinning just listening to all the options. At the end of the day I just get the feeling it's all smoke and mirrors to get one over on the passengers. Just have two options for Gods sake, unlimited soft & hot drinks, or unlimited soft/hot drinks and alcohol. Everyone would know where they are then.
