So this year we discovered a new exciting way to travel and that was by going on a cruise.
So the first one we went on was the beautiful P&O Iona and we really enjoyed it so just 3 weeks later we went on our second cruise which was the stunning MSC Virtuosa.
We know some of you are new to cruising like ourselves or are thinking of trying your first one and we get asked alot 'which one did you prefer'?
Well we loved both but there is one that slightly suits us more and in this video we explain the differences and the pros and cons of each ship to help you decide what would be more appealing for you.
So we try to cover alot of detail and cover and narrow it down to these categories for each ship:
•The Ships & staff overall
•The cabins on both ships
•Things to do on both ships
•The food on both ships
•Entertainment on both ships
We would love to hear off you in the comments, which sounds more appealing to you? or have you also tried them both and which do you prefer? We are all different and it's nice to agree to disagree and hear other thoughts.
If you liked the video then please give it a big thumbs up as it really helps us out and if you want to see what we have planned travel wise for the remainder of the year then make sure you hit that subscribe button 😀 And thanks to those already subscribed we appreciate it so much
See you next time guys

We have been on nearly 70 cruises with P&O and it is great to see your comments which on most we agree. The entertainment on P&O is really disappointing now and on Virtuosa it was fantastic. The buffet was brilliant on MSC was brilliant and on P&O it was okay. The MDR food and service on Virtuosa was the worse we have ever had on a cruise ship whereas on P&O the service is brilliant. We found it too loud and in your face on MSC but a bit more relaxed on P&O. We will go back on MSC again but it would have to be a good price. One thing we did like was the lifts they were amazing. Thanks for your video we enjoyed it.

Great overview of P & O Iona and MSC Virtuosa. Experience gives you the best taste of what you prefer. My only cruise was a 5 day Nile cruise in Egypt Luxor to Aswan on Mayfair Cruise line which I believe is British run. Everyone has different tastes and I like how you ask people to give nice comments. In this day and age of social media people tend to express their negative emotions and beliefs a little to freely. Your opinions on both cruise lines was enjoyable to hear. I will be following you guys more in the future as I prepare for my MSC Virtuosa in December 2022.

Really interesting, I went on virtuosa as my first ever cruise last year and then I went on p&o Ventura this year and couldn't believe the difference. Virtuosa felt like all style and no substance to us. Definitely agree it was more lively and had more of a party feel but p&o felt more professional and the service was far better (there was massive staff shortages when we were on MSC so the service really suffered). Plus we found the food way better on p&o especially traveling with veggie/vegan fanily

Couldn’t agree with your views on handwashing more. Just back from Iona and the lack of guest hygiene was most likely the cause of my wife and I becoming sick for the second week. And listening to the many people coughing in the second week, we were not alone. The only morning that guests were asked to use hand gel was after an outbreak of a stomach bug on one deck. That’s a game changer for us and means P&O won’t be a future choice.

We've mainly been on P&O but have found the daytime activities on P&O a bit lacking unless it's a talk with a sales pitch at the end of it lol. Looking to move away to another line now and Virtuosa is up on the list. You might be interested to try a smaller ship, for us Ventura size works well and after Iona we enjoyed it more. Great video, we've taken quite a few cruises over the years and by far the worst was on Iona - over crowded and unbelievable queues - 2 hours to get in the dining room after being notified tables were ready. We were on board last Christmas and New Year & they took a lot of the crew off after a few days to make sure Arvia was fully staffed for her maiden voyage which made it even worse. The other issue we had with Iona was that it was just so boring, no music in the outdoor bars, no sailaways and nothing much going on - particularly on sea days. We really wanted to love Iona but just didn't, totally agree with you on the dining in and around the atrium - just felt like you were eating in a corridor. Fortunately I had a drinks package so just made the most of that. We will never know what Iona could be like fully staffed as we wouldn't take the risk of sailing on her again. We have a 23 night cruise booked on MSC Virtuoso and really like what we have seen, your honest reviews help a lot. If you like MSC I think you would also love some of the larger Royal Caribbean ships, especially the ones that have central park.
@OneCouplesAdventure
@OneCouplesAdventure Год назад
Hi Gazza and thanks for taking the time write about your experience on the Iona. Like you said a ship depends on the Passengers v crew ratio and any full ship with so little staff would be a bad experience and enough to put someone off.23 nights on the Virtuosa sounds amazing by the way. Where you sailing to?
@Gazza-E

@@OneCouplesAdventure Hi Kev & Stacey, it's quite a nice itinerary. We start in Dubai then Qatar, Abu Dhabi & Muscat - it's then through the Red Sea with a stop in Egypt followed by the Suez Canal. It's then Malta, Crete and Spain & finish in Southampton. We did the Panama Canal about 16 years ago and promised ourselves a trip through Suez - this ticked a lot of boxes. We've decided to splurge and try the yacht club, when you take into consideration the drinks package, WiFi and specialist dining it is actually reasonable value - plus it means avoiding the breakfast buffet scrum😀. We also have a trip on Ventura in November so haven't abandoned P & O altogether. Main reason was that we made friends with a barman from India on Iona and promised to sail on his next ship to meet up again, he actually extended his contract by a month to make sure he was on-board. Plan is to sort out a trip to see him out in Kerala. Keep up the good work😀 no way would I ever be sober enough😁

Very clean, balanced, spot-on & respectable review guys. Unlike some vloggers who claim they are “honest” but uses offensive adjectives to describe cruise lines. Well honesty comes with class and you both definitely have class. MSC is a rare gem and you both have the eyes that caught its unique beauty. My family and I can safely say that we have well enough basis of comparisons after cruising multiple times with MSC, Royal Caribbean, & Carnival but MSC comes on top of our list & is the clear winner according to our preference & liking. I've done Virtuosa twice over the last 10 months, and Iona four times. This assessment is very accurate. If you are on Virtuosa, do not miss the Circque de Soleil type show. We enjoyed your reviews of the two cruises, Kev and Stacy. Loved the videos too! Both looked wonderful to us and you just may be convincing us to try one. The food would be important to us and the gym and shipboard activities not so much. Curious about sea sickness. Did either of you or others that you may have talked to, experience it? Seems like I may remember something about that? You mention that when you get older you may just like to relax more. Partially true, but we'd also like to get out and explore. We loved seeing the fjords and mountains on the first even though the weather wasn't always ideal. So for us we think we would have enjoyed the Iona and some of the tours they offered more. (We would enjoy a nap afterwards though) Disagree is the wrong word. It's about preference. But even if we disagreed we'd always be nice about it! Love you Kev and Stacey!

Thanks Dave and Kathy hope you are both well. And we agree with everything you said 😁 and we did have to take a seasickness Tablet the odd time just to ease off the strange feeling slightly but it was nothing to serious what we felt just made us both slightly dizzy when it rocked. There was also times when we got off the ship that we felt we were still on it that was a strange feeling lol. Got slightly more used to it by the second cruise though

Been on a fair few cruises and never felt sea sickness neither as my husband but we may have just been lucky . One thing I will say is if you go take sea sickness pills ,headache pills and any other things like that you think you may need . These things can be very expensive on board also go for mid ship cabins .

interesting listening to this. 1) I like freedom dining, much prefer it. 2) P&O has always been marketed as a more 'traditional premium cruising experience', which is evidenced by the activities and gala nights etc. Also yes it is aimed at a slightly older audience. 3) MSC has been marketed as more of a modern premium experience, a bit like virgin, so like a younger feel to the ship and activities, leading to a younger audience and less strict rules etc. 4) The servive thing is interesting, and I think definitely aligns with the approaches to service in the different countries. I always feel here in the UK service is a lot more hands off, with less chatting being a cultural thing. Also, if you learn the language and the culture of the crew, often they become even friendlier and are more inclined to give you more food better service etc. 5) As I've said before, the rooms will always be similar if they are like standard balconies etc. 6) The creaking is interesting, I've never experienced before on new or old ships, I think it depends on materials. 7) I've always had evening turndown, interesting P&O have stopped them, never thought I'd see a cruise line do that. 8) Never really been interested in the shows so not going to say anything about them lol 9) Again the facilities comes down to the target audience/ feel again. P&O has less because it's aimed at the older, calmer audience. Or just someone who wants a more relaxing cruise for sure. anyway, look forward to your next cruising experience

We have been on a lot of cruise lines but never tried MSC went on Iona earlier in the year and booked on the new ship next year before we went on Iona. I think P&O really need to up their game with daytime entertainment too many talks on health things eg feet and arthritis . Only other things seem to be trying to sell jewellery etc or bingo . The cinema was good but got full quickly. Also P&O need to up their hygiene standards they don’t seem to vacuum their carpets I ended up with a false eyelash under my foot 🤮. Also they don’t encourage hand sanitiser use before entering the buffet . We are thinking of canceling our next P&O cruise they seem to have gone backwards rather than forwards we traveled with them a few times in the past . Other cruise lines have over taken P&O in a lot of ways . You are correct about Rise being terrible. Enjoyed your vlogs x

Hi both, we are due to go first time p&o next year on arvia. Few things if you don’t mind, I saw your food videos , do any open late? Is the buffet manic as looks very small? The Wi-Fi package , any good? And finally it’s been said you can bring a bottle of spirits on, can you drink this in the bar or just your room? Thanks in advance and love the videos
@OneCouplesAdventure
@OneCouplesAdventure Год назад
I don't think the buffet, restaurants are open very late. Not sure about the wifi we didn't have it, but family we were with said it was ok. Yes you can take spirits on with you but think its meant to be for your room, but if some of that falls into a hip flask and then into your pocket then who knows 🤣 Thanks for watching and hope you have a great time

We've been on both twice (on older ships. Ventura, Britannia, Armonia, Musica) and there is no way we'd say they are comparable (P&O were much better in so many ways, food, extras, cleanliness, cabins, politeness, pushy passengers). The only reason why we'd go on MSC again is for destinations (which is why we went on them in the first place).

It’s a matter of opinion but I went on both the Virtuosa and Iona and I hated the Iona and they received lots of complaints onboard. Virtuosa was far friendlier, upbeat and with better entertainment imo. And Iona doesn’t cater for people that actually want to eat fruit, vegetables or salads. Asked them for salad dressings 5 times got a big fat NO. Online bookings a total nightmare. Iona the atrium is dead atmosphere. I guess this suits people that like quiet...

@@kling8460 I agree with you Totaly we went on the Britannia and liked the ship and the crew but found our fellow passengers a bit standoffish and has put us off P&O, we have been on the Virtuosa 4 times and have a further 2 booked and we love MSC.

We had a 2 week cruise booked on the Virtuosa, but decided to change our mind and cancelled it. The ship looks lovely, but we have seen from many pictures, and heard from many recent reviews about just how crowded the ship can be, and how long the queues are and we didn't want to risk 2 weeks, we will probably book a week as a tester.

Hi thanks for watching and at the end of the day you have to do what's best for you 😁 the 2 times we went on the ship was no where near full so maybe we were lucky but we could well imagine at full capacity it would be carnage!
@Gazza-E
@Gazza-E Год назад
The worst queues we have ever experienced were on Iona at Christmas, people were stood waiting to dine for up to 2 hours and one day there was a 3 hour queue for reception, even getting a drink took an eternity. Can't comment on the reason for queues on MSC but Iona was solely down to a full ship and lack of staff (they were several hundred short). I think the best way to gauge how bad it will be is to look at the crew vs passenger ratio.

How does the spa area differ? I am doing my 1st with MSC starting the 4th of Nov, but like to do norway at some point, if not getting seasick lol...so, looking already at different ships. But, from what you said and I saw in the video, I guess i would prefer MSC..I do like the modern deco..Iona comes across a bit conservative, but...havent been on either, just my opinion from what I saw so far in different videos. Thanks guys, love your videos and opinion..

Not sure about the spa's as we didn't use them, they are both chargable upgrades and im sure there are price lists somewhere online lol. You have hit the nail on the head, iona is ALOT more conservative, msc is a nicer ship if you like flashy more fun vibe

We are on Virtuosa in December. My issue is the amount of add ons. Having sailed with Princess and P&O the extra chargables are pretty extreme. The cruise prices have been pretty similar so it’s not as if it is subsidising the cost of the cruise. It’s not a great selling point. Happy to be back with Princess next year
@OneCouplesAdventure

What chargables are you talking about? All the ships charge for everything they can it seems.
@richardparmenter188
@richardparmenter188 Год назад
@@OneCouplesAdventure the entertainment passes, the chargeable shows, even the movies in your cabin. I don’t know if MSC charge for room service whereas P&O do. The restaurant are a totally different issue as you have included choices already. Both lines also have a cap on the cost of drinks included in the drinks package. Do a Princess cruise next so you can see the comparison yourselves 😉 And No I’m not an employee 😂
@OneCouplesAdventure
@OneCouplesAdventure Год назад
Ye the movies in the room were a joke. We didn't have the drinks packages but msc's is the same as princess for the price of drink you can have where as p&o is only £6.90ish. I think its just the normal now that these companies are trying to squeeze every last penny out of you same as if you go to disney they are the worst now

@@OneCouplesAdventure absolutely. But when you are paying a couple of grand for a weeks holiday you really don’t want to be thinking about paying another couple of hundred to play bowling or video games. We are really excited about getting on Virtuosa but I doubt we will look at MSC again unless it’s a last minute deal. Just want to say that we aren’t cruise snobs, our story is similar to yours. Did one cruise a year ago, loved it and was on another one within the month. Next week we get on our 4th and have 3 more booked 😂 It’s very addictive… You guys are great because you aren’t professional cruisers unlike many vloggers so we get to see another point of view. Hi Stephen a good point to make, it's hard to say as the Virtuosa cost £678 for a week for us both as we got a great deal and then the P&O was £2500 for a week so a big price difference between the 2. Would say the Virtuosa is worth so much more than what we paid and if they had both cost exactly the same then the Virtuosa we think would of been better value for money

On Virtuosa now, and in Yacht Club. Service and facilities are exceptional, but venturing into the rest of the ship I'm a little underwhelmed to be honest. I don't rate the marketplace buffet at all and am disappointed that there aren't any other free eateries (apart from the MDR's that I haven't frequented). It would have been nice to have a pasta venue with made to order pastas etc. Apart from Hola, I find the speciality dining venues are expensive for the full experience. There aren't many children on board now that we've entered September, but find it virtually impossible to find a seat at any of the bars in the evenings. It doesn't generally feel like a calm ship. Yacht club though is an oasis and worth every extra penny to us. Would only go yacht club on MSC.
