+UncomfortableSilence That would also give a feasible explanation as to why the whole tragedy happened. The father killed everyone in a drunken rage, and targeted his wife's stomach because he found out that the child was not his. His wife probably had the affair in the first place because of the heavy drinking he had been doing since being fired. The disfigured fetus in the sink is a symbolic representation of his guilt, by tormenting him as a helpless baby and later by subtly stating that he alone is responsible for this whole disaster for giving in to alcohol.
