www.crosstraini... tractionerag.com P-tech make some of the most ruggest enduro protection in the business. P-tech exhaust guards, skidplates, radiator guards, disc guards, crankcase savers, clutch cover guards, clutch slave cylinder protectors, TPI sensor guards, speedo protectors and linkage guards. I first heard about P-tech because my Canadian buddies were trying to destroy their exhaust guard/skidplate combination. They bashed it into rocks and logs for an entire summer and it lasted the distance. Three of our guys started using the same P-tech guard three years ago. They can't destroy P-tech exhaust guards either. And they have tried. As their other guards are bent or wrecked, they are slowly replacing their radiator guards and disc guards with P-tech P-tech bashplates. Our channel now had hundreds of dirt bike videos covering reviews, and enduro riding techniques. Search our channel for dirt riding gear too. Our dirt riding tips also include wider topics such as the best dirt riding boots. Again, no problems to report with P-tech radiator guards. Me? I am not using any P-tech equipment because my Beta Xtrainer and the current Sherco 300SE are a long-term experiment. I want to see how long I can go with minimal protection. If and when I want protection, it will probably be P-tech. Most protective gear for motorbikes works quite well. But our experience with other brands hasn't quite matched the indestructibility of P-tech. If you have had failures with P-tech, let us know the details. As always, we post updates in the pinned first comment on our RU-vid video. Let us know your experiences with P-tech. And of course, if you use another brand, tell us the good and bad experiences.

Also have a look at the Australian made products from Propower based in Queensland. Radiator guards, carbon fibre exhaust guards, rear disc guards and frame guards for European models. propowerinternational.com We've used quite a few of these over the past decade - very tough and often cheaper than the rest. Worth looking at even if you are overseas. Free international postage and the Aussie dollar is pretty low compared to the greenback. FURTHER NOTES! Make your own rubber strips (e.g. old inner tubes) to go between the frame rails and your P-tech. The supplied foam strips are next to useless. The rubber ensures a snug fit, prevents vibration, and helps to absorb hard hits. Remember this sort of guard can collect mud and debris in some situations. Our guys don't really notice this as it's all slow technical riding. Some viewers say it can be an issue.

I've run a p-tech pipe/ skid plate on my 2016 Beta300 for about 4 years. I would say the emperor racing one is a bit more heavy duty, though no personal experience with it. I did manage to bend the pipe guard enough to put a slight crease in my expansion chamber. Well worth the money in my opinion none the less. Lost count the amount of pipes it has saved. The weight is so low I didn't notice any weight increases. Though like everyone has said, they do collect mud and debris. I zip tied strips of old tube between the plate and frame. The supplied foam strips are a joke. I'm a mid level B rider. I'm also running Emperor Racing radiator guards and love them. I have had to take them off time to time to straighten front protectors.

I went with a Carapacks skidplate for my Yamaha YZ250X since p-tech doesn't make one, made in Poland and looks similar to p-tech but the cost is 235 € for most of their skidplate pipe guard combos so around 280 USD to get it shipped to Idaho, i received it 5 days after purchase but had to modify it slightly to fit the FMF Gnarly pipe but it has held up perfectly against the few impacts it has taken. They also make 2 stroke pipe/ skid protection for : Sherco, Beta, TM, Ktm, Husky, Gas Gas, and Kawasaki.

Good to hear there's an option for the YZ250X. Out of interest, is it easy finding carbon fibre guards for them?
@BairdBoysAdventures

@@crosstrainingenduro There are a few manufacturers that produce carbon guards for the various pipe choices but the cost is more than half of what the carapaks aluminum skid was.

Have only ridden with it for a short season. I do some technical slow riding along with faster gravel roads. I've noticed the collection of rubbish inside of the skidplate and pipeguard. Also if you are running a non chromed pipe, it's very hard to get in to oil the pipe up to prevent rust. Also had some bolt vibrate loose on the first ride. Most likely due to me not upgrading the foam strips to rubber ones.

I’ve got a ptech pip/frame guard on my beta 300 race. Saved me tons of money on pipes. I added rubber hose between the frame and guard to snug it up and protect the frame. I’d buy again. If it’ll ever fail!

Yep using a ptech skid plate with linkage and pipe coverage on a GasGas 300EC. No issues but you have to spend quite a bit of time on the water blaster to keep everything clean. I would have flattened my header last weekend on a quick heavy front end lose that slammed the pipe protector into a rock ledge…no damage so could keep riding 👍🏼👍🏼

The last time I had a similar guard was seven years ago on my RR300, Glen. The Force Accessories guard was a lot more open than the P-tech so collected way too much debris. I remember wishing it just had a quick release handle at the front and hinges at the rear so I could just swing it down when washing the bike lol.

B&B off-road for the bash plate, full force radiator braces and jet bark busters is all I run. Nothing too fancy about the bash plate. Material thickness is pretty good and wraps around the engine good. The full force radiator braces are really good. They have bars that run from one radiator brace to the other so it stops the braces folding in on them selves like I’ve seen other brands do. Then genuine bark busters are always good nothing fancy but a basic robust design. They always seem to have the best mounts for going around brake and clutch lines too. I’ve had the same set on 3 different bikes and they still are good

I have P-Tech pipe /bash plate/ linkage guard and Radiator guards on my 2021 Reiju .They are super strong but weigh a bit .The pipe /engine guard didn't have a hole for the sump drain .It is total pain to remove and reinstall.I used the original skid plate as a template .The radiator guards are the best ,I have ever used ,absolutely bullet proof and incredibly strong.Reasonable priced and better then anything Force make.I ordered straight from Estonia and saved a little .Had both within 2 weeks .Have a look at their website ,its pretty good

I’ve had a P-Tech skid/pipe/link guard on my 2018 Xtrainer since new. Still original pipe- no way it would have lasted without it. Only downfall is it does collect mud/needles etc. not that big of a deal, although once in the summer some fir needles collected did start to smoke… I try to clean the bike every ride, so I just blast it out- then ever few rides pop it off and really clean/inspect. P-Tech clutch cover has worked well, I have BPD rad guards and rear disc guard, those have worked well for me.

I use an Enduro Engineering alum skid plate and a carbon fiber pipe guard. I don't ride excessively nasty terrain so it holds up well. My buddy put the P-tech on his new 200 RR and it really does collect a lot of debris. While I will get leaves and mud in my skid plate, his loads up and cover the pipe! If I didn't ride in the Northeast US I'd probably get the P-tech. It's just too sloppy around here.
@crosstrainingenduro
@crosstrainingenduro 2 года назад
Good point, Dave. This sort of guard can collect a lot of mud. Even when it's rained a lot we don't really get that kind of mud that jams in there. I'm only using a carbon fibre guard but it's taking a lot of hits in our terrain... not sure how long it will last.

I have the P-Tech pipe guard/skid plate on my 22 Sherco 300 SE. Absolutely no way it was going to fit the bike out of the box. I had to pack the guard out 6mm under the engine and 9mm on the radius section of the frame to allow clearance around the pipe. After heaps of trial and error i have got the thing to fit well but now I’m too scared to take it back off in case I can’t get it in the same position! Protection is really good though. Well made product, just wish the fitment was better.

We did hear there's a trick to fitting them, Andrew. My brother is buying one next week (full retail price) and the guy said come to my shop and I'll show you how to fit it... I might even make a quick vid about it. I do know even the stock skidplate can be a shocker to fit. Took mine off for the first time last week and couldn't get it back on. Jeff showed me the right way to get it back on.

I'm loving the AXP thick plastic protection gear (Xtreme bash plates etc). It's lighter, more flexible than metal and slides a lot better, also feels like it soaks up hits. Sadly nothing really available for the full pipe protection. I just can't stand how masssssive and chunky the full PTech cage is!! HUge!! 👍👍👍🛵🛵
@crosstrainingenduro
@crosstrainingenduro 2 года назад
They are big! And I think they weigh around 3kg, although you don't notice the weight when riding as it's down low. But if you need to lift the bike? Hmmm. It's part of the reason I'm just going the carbon fibre guard at the moment, and seeing if I can avoid damaging the pipe too much...

@@crosstrainingenduro I just picked up a used bike that came with a brand new p-tech guard. I thought I was going to keep it, but even though it has the plastic liner on the bottom the 3 struts that connect the pipe guard to the skid plate hang low and get hung up on rocks and logs too easily. Plus in order to clean it nicely you need to take it off every wash. It's also a mud and leaf magnet. Going to take it off and go with AXP extreme

Nice bit of gear but needs modifications to fit correctly. I’ve got one on my 21 EC300 Gas Gas but I had to make a 6mm aluminium spacer for the front mount otherwise the guard came in contact with the pipe. Also the rear mount is pretty crappy and fiddly. IMO these euro plates have nothing on the Aussie made Force Industries combos which I have on my other 21 EXC300 Kato. They also collect a tonne more mud and twigs. All in all a good product but more pricey and needs some tweaking. As for the radiator guards they are good but once again have nothing on B&B Aluminium products. Tit for tat I love both but in the future will continue supporting locally made products like I have for over 25 years.

I've recently removed the big Ptech 'shovel' pipe guard bash plate....big, heavy, retains mud, noisy, hangs too low as it's a bit bent. It's a quality product (except the rivnuts for the back mounts can come loose and spin) but I'm abandoning the concept for lighter weight, so back to the plastic frame guard.

Same here Mat. I've just run a carbon fibre guard (and stock skidplate) the past four years and riding carefully to avoid damaging the pipe. It was easier on the Xtrainer with the smaller pipe, it's getting hard on the Sherco 300SE though.
