P1 IS THE HOLY SPIRIT A FORCE OR A PERSON | MISCONCEPTIONS THAT LIMIT HIS POWER IN YOUR LIFE
Is the Holy Spirit a force to be wielded or is He a Person to be encountered? Our misconceptions about the Holy Spirit can actually limit His power in our lives. Scripture teaches that we can quench the Holy Spirit or even grieve Him. Join us as we unpack the 3rd member of the Trinity.
The Holy Spirit, Part 1 - August 7, 2022
Sermon Outline
I. The Holy Spirit is a person
a. Evidences
i. He thinks (Romans 8:27)
ii. He decides (1 Corinthians 12:11)
iii. He prays (Romans 8:26)
b. Implications
i. He can be mistreated
1. We can grieve the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:30)
2. We can quench the Holy Spirit (1 Thessalonians 5:19)
ii. He can be known
II. The Holy Spirit is God (Acts 5:3-4)
a. He is everywhere present (Psalm 139:7-8)
b. He is all-knowing (Isaiah 40:13-14)
c. He is all-powerful
III. Summary: 1 John 4:4
John 14:16-17 (NIV2011)
16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever- 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.
The Holy Spirit is a person
Evidences of the Holy Spirit’s personhood:
The Holy Spirit is a person
He thinks (has a mind)
Romans 8:27 (NIV2011)
27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.
The Holy Spirit is a person
He thinks (has a mind)
He decides (has a will)
1 Corinthians 12:11 (NIV2011)
11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.
The Holy Spirit is a person
He thinks (has a mind)
He decides (has a will)
He prays
Romans 8:26 (NIV2011)
26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.
Implications of the Holy Spirit’s personhood:
The Holy Spirit is a person
He can be mistreated
Ephesians 4:30 (NIV2011)
30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
We can grieve the Holy Spirit
Example: Parent
1 Thessalonians 5:19 (NIV2011)
19 Do not quench the Spirit.
We can quench the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is a person
He can be mistreated
He can be known
The Holy Spirit is God
Example: Story of Ananias and Sapphira
Acts 5:3-4 (NIV2011)
3 Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land?
4 Didn’t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn’t the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied just to human beings but to God.”
The Holy Spirit is God
He is everywhere present
Psalm 139:7-8 (NIV2011)
7 Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?
8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
Application: There’s never a time when no one’s around
The Holy Spirit is God
He is everywhere present
He is all-knowing
Isaiah 40:13-14 (NIV2011)
13 Who can fathom the Spirit of the LORD, or instruct the LORD as his counselor?
14 Whom did the LORD consult to enlighten him, and who taught him the right way? Who was it that taught him knowledge, or showed him the path of understanding?
Application: We are fully known and unconditionally loved
The Holy Spirit is God
He is everywhere present
He is all-knowing
He is all-powerful

1 John 4:4
You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the One who is in you is greater than the One who is in the world.

The churchfathers made a blunder! They didn't get that the HOLY SPIRIT = THE FATHER (who is a spirit) ("God is a spirit" Jn. 4:23,24). No "Lord who gives life" exists! Since the Father is a spirit, Jesus calls Him either "Holy Father" or "Holy Spirit", they are just two EQUIVALENT names for the SAME Person! 1. The blasphemy against the Holy Spirit means blasphemy against the Father, no one was forgotten, 2. The Holy Spirit SPEAKS when Jesus was baptized 3. The Father makes the miracle of the Mary's pregnancy 4. The Father leads Jesus into the desert 5. Jesus CORRECTLY reiterates dozens of times that "God is only made by A. the Father and B. the Son" e.g. "I am not ALONE because the Father is with me". The HOLY SPIRIT = THE FATHER. He is with Jesus. Of course He is mentioned only ONCE by Jesus as "the Father", no one was forgotten.

The Trinity doctrine claims all three persons are co-equal in the Godhead, that all three are equally the same God. But, Jesus has no authority of His own; He has only the authority given to Him by the One, True God, who singularly possesses all authority. So, Jesus is not co-equal. As for a third co-equal person in a Trinity: - A third person has never received any authority from the Father - no third person ever appears on the throne of God with the other two, (which is how Scripture symbolizes Divine authority). - A third person is never included as being one with the Father and Son (as those two repeatedly are). - A third person never receives or is directed to receive worship. - A third person, who is God, does not have even one personal name, in either Testament (Almighty God and The Son have personal names). - If the third person, in a Trinity, is equal to the Father in every way, has the same essence, nature and Spirit, etc, and all the same power, then Almighty God duplicated Himself, and that is impossible - He shares His Glory with no other. If he does not have equal authority and power, but only specific duties, then this third person is NOT co-equal God: (Isa 42:8) _I am the LORD: that is my name:_ *and my glory will I not give to another,* ... - Jesus is the ONLY Mediator between God and men. No third person has ever received authority to usurp that role. Not even Jesus can delegate that authority, so there is no third person go-between, from or to God, and men. There are two in this verse, not three: (1Tim 2:5) For *there is one God,* *_and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;_* - The Holy Spirit is the Father's Spirit, and the Son's Spirit. Neither of their Spirits are a separate person: The Roman Catholic priests who translated the King James Bible from Greek {which has words that have a gender), into English (that has no gendered words), made the Spirit into a man (to fit the Trinity bias) instead of properly translating the noun spirit as a neutral "it". His Spirit, is not a person, “it” is neither male nor female, (they offered some correctly translated verses, and they should all have been correct). Romans 8:16 KJV The *Spirit itself* beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: (Rom 8:26) Likewise *the Spirit* also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but *the Spirit itself* maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. - Is Jesus Christ's Spirit another person? No, “it” is not a person. (Jesus, “Himself”, is a person, so “He” is the correct pronoun). His Spirit is a “supply”, a quantity, not another person: 1 Peter 1:11 Searching what, or what manner of time the *Spirit of Christ* which was in them did signify, when *_it testified_* beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow. (Phil 1:19) For I know that this shall turn to my salvation through your prayer, and *the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,* (Gal 4:6) But because you are sons, God sent out *the spirit of his son in your hearts,* crying out, Abba father. (Heb 9:14) How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through *the eternal Spirit* offered himself without spot to God,... - Neither is the Most High's Spirit another person: (John 1:32) And John bare record, saying, *I saw the Spirit* descending from heaven like a dove, and *it abode* upon him. (Acts 2:17) And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, *I will pour out of **_my Spirit_** upon all flesh:* ... (Matt 10:20) For it is not ye that speak, but the *Spirit of your Father* which speaketh in you. - When did Jesus ever pray for three of them to be one? When did Jesus pray for us to be one with three of them? There are only two persons in the Godhead, The Father and The Word (who later became flesh). John 17:21 KJV *That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us:* that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. John 10:30 KJV *I and my Father are one.* Here was a supreme opportunity for the Apostle to tell us to fellowship with a three person God, but He did not: 1 John 1:3 KJV ... *truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.*

oneness?

@@FirstRedeemerChurch Had to look up what Oneness is. Maybe some aspects appear, or are, the same, but Jesus being both God and man, and the Father Himself, if I read their beliefs properly, are errors. In the Old Testament, The Lord God and The Word of God are two that are One God, invisible and united. In the New Testament, God and The Word of God (now made flesh) are One through the Spirit, but not as one conjoined God any longer. In eternity, Jesus Christ is still one with God, as from the beginning, but The Word is no longer the invisible, conjoined existence, rather the visible Word that stands outside as another Person, but still shares the same Spirit. Those two (not three) sit on the Throne forever. (Rev 19:13) And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: *and his name is called The Word of God.* The Holy Spirit, when translated properly from the Greek, is obviously The Lord God, who is Spirit and Truth. And He is seeking those who will worship Him in spirit and truth. (Acts 2:17) And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, *I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh:* ... (Acts 2:33) … _being by the right hand of God exalted, and_ *having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit,* he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear. (John 17:22) *And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:* (Acts 2:4) *And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit,* and began to speak with other tongues, as *the Spirit* gave them utterance. What better way to interfere with true worship, then for the enemy to concoct a new person who happens to also be a spirit, call him God, place Him alongside Christ as a second mediator between God and men, causing confusion. Because Jesus Christ, Scripture says, is the ONLY Mediator between God and men? No wonder we are told not to try and figure out the Trinity, just accept it, or die. Further, these same class of men (RCC priests) went on to seat another person on the Throne, Mary (not the mother of Jesus, but pagan Goddess Diana, aka Venus, Isis, Semiramis) as the co-redemptrix and co-mediatrix. There is no one between God and men, but the Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord God's Spirit is the Holy Spirit, and there are no others who have His eternal Spirit. (1Cor 8:6) But to us *there is but one God,* the Father, of whom are all things, *and we in him;* _and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things,_ *and we by him.*

"Then I will come down and speak with you there, and I will take of the Spirit who is upon you, and will put Him upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with you, so that you will not bear it all alone." -Numbers 11:17 (NASB). The NIV replaces "who" with "that" and "Him" with "it" which I wish they hadn't changed the pronouns here.
