P6, I continue with the light mounting, and get that all sorted & then make the earth links.
P5 In this episode I start on the hood, it like the rest of the top has had a hard life, but is again solid enough to warrant doing up.
I also start on the center light support.
P4 I continue with the top, it's solid, but has seen a hard life and had quite a number of repairs over the years.
Sadly it's not in good enough condition to leave bear copper, so it's going to have to be painted.
P3 I continue with the post clean up and paint & make a few discoveries along the way, I had suspected this was a gas lamp post (no electrical door), and I had said the oddity of the top arms having been made to be bolted/riveted but were welded had me thinking it was dated pre war.
Well finding a makers name on the post confirmed this, John M Moorwood Ltd, Eagle Foundry, Attercliffe, Sheffield. 1916 to 1930
With the post painted and ready for return to the owners, it was time to turn my attention to the top.
Now there is the possibility the top was not made by Moorwood Ltd, the std top fitting means most tops would fit.
So I start the clean up, & closer inspection as to the style, in my mind, makes this a early type gas lamp with a naked flame & as opposed to later styles that had gause mantle burners the hung down (there is simply no room for the gas pipe to get past the enamel top plate).
the poor lamp had seen a hard life so repair is to be needed.
P2: cleaning the top part of the post, as this is a fill in job, I am cleaning & painting as I go, I then jump over to the lap bracket ( I had a welding job so thought I'd do this at the same time).
P1: With only one post to do, it's touch and go weather it's worth getting it sandblasted, and seeing as the main post is in good condition I felt it not worthy of the expenditure.
I make a start on the post by cleaning up the Foundation (the bit that goes in the ground) no need to paint this, it will outlast you & I.
Then I try and remove the rather corroded to collar.
