I got my pacemaker 2 years ago when I was 18. As a person with medical trauma, it’s so interesting and inspiring to hear how this experience, though difficult, has motivated you to better your life 🖤

My pacemaker, a 3 lead, was installed yesterday morning. I just got home this following mid day. I've already discovered some great improvements, like reduced body swelling, (was up for bathroom many times all night), clearer vision, I can walk further without the need for rests. I'm hurting some, but not as bad as I had expected. The implant site is very sensitive, but I'm very pleased so far. Thanks for your videos. They answered a lot of my questions. Charley

I'm glad to hear you are feeling better after the surgery. My implant site was sensitive for a while, but like you, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Over the next few weeks it will keep feeling less and less sensitive, and eventually it will feel completely normal. Sometimes I forget I have it. Thanks for sharing!

I’m 55. Just got home from getting a pacemaker installed yesterday. It’s depressing when you always considered yourself somewhat healthy. My heart rate I found out a few days ago was anywhere from 27-34. Just here looking for some inspiration.

Learning you have a heart issue is a scary thing, it is natural to have all kinds of emotions. I was mad, depressed, scared, like I was going through the phases of grief. I came to accept that the pacemaker was a helpful device to allow me to live a more normal life. In time I hope you can too. After you heal and can get back to normal activities, I think you will start feeling better about it. After a while it will just be a normal part of your life. Thanks for sharing your experience, and I hope you have a speedy recovery.

@CyborgVlog
@CyborgVlog 2 года назад
I’m mostly paced at night when in my deepest sleep, so I don’t even notice it. I used to be paced when sitting at my desk at work, being inactive. After some tuning by the doctor that does not happen anymore. Will you need it to keep your rate up during exercise? I hope you get scheduled soon, and start feeling the benefits of having your device.

Well, I was just cleared to lift weights so I joined a gym today but I had planned on joining a gym already, it just got delayed when I realized I'd be having a pacemaker put in so I don't figure that counts. I know I feel better and I don't try falling in the toilet when I wake up in the morning because I'm so dizzy which is definitely a good thing. I sleep better, too. Question though, could you or can you feel the pacemaker when it is pacing your heart? Or since your episodes happen in your sleep, you don't notice? I can feel mine pacing when my heart rate drops too low (they have it set at 60.) It really is kinda freaky and I am still finding this whole pacemaker deal freaky even though I feel a lot better and have more energy. I agree with Eric Davenport. I watched your videos several times because there aren't very many videos out there from the patient's perspective. Lots from the cardiologist's point of view but then again, they try to make it seem so normal. So it was nice to hear it from the patient's perspective rather than the cardiologist's point of view.
@CyborgVlog
@CyborgVlog 5 лет назад
Glad to hear your feeling better and that you got cleared to use your arm to lift things again. I can feel my pacemaker when it paces my heart. When I had the pacemaker induced tachycardia (feedback loop) it was really noticeable because my it would pace me at 120 beats per minute, that was scary. Now that it has been tuned, I notice it a lot less. Your right about my low heart rate happening at night while I sleep, but sometimes I do wake up and feel it pacing. As time goes on, it will just be a normal part of the day. I remind myself that it is there to help, and when it's doing its job, that's a good thing. I'm glad it's working for you too, and helping you feel better.

Hi, just out of curiosity do pacemakers still make that loud ticking sounds? Also, can you go near a microwave oven? These might be odd questions, but i recall back in the late 70s, early 80s i had a aunt who had a wide range of heart issues and had a pacemaker. Some of the things i remember about her is that ticking noise whenever she would come in the room. No way she could sneak up on anyone. Also it seems like i remember it being said that she could not go near a microwave oven due to her pacemaker. This was many years ago though, technology has certainly changed.
@CyborgVlog
@CyborgVlog 2 года назад
Luckily technology has improved, I am completely silent, no ticking 😀. I can use the microwave. My device is shielded and operates normally around household devices. I have no restrictions in my everyday life because of my pacemaker. Only very strong magnetic fields are a concern, and even then, it has a safety built in to prevent damage. Now most electronics, and even public places, comply with standards so they don’t interfere with common medical devices. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Taylor, I’m glad to hear you had your baby, but sorry to hear your pacemaker issue. Have a young baby at home can be stressful, do you think that is contributing to the issue? Is it bad enough to go to the ER for immediate help? I would be good if your cardiologist called you back. I hope it is nothing major, and you start feeling better, and I hope your baby is doing well.

I'm having an ICD (which will also have pacemaker functioning) implanted in a couple of weeks. I found out earlier this year I've got a rare condition called sarcoidosis, and it is beginning to show up in the myocardium. For me, this is preventative in case the electrical signals get blocked from the sarcoidosis. I don't mind saying I'm a bit overwhelmed by all of this, but videos like this are calming me down some - lol. I've gone back and forth about whether to go ahead and have it done, but after talking to my family, my take is better safe than sorry. Knowing there is the potential for a cardiac arrest, even slight at this point, kind of motivated me to get it done sooner rather than later.

Hi Charles, getting this kind of medical diagnosis is difficult. It’s normal to have a whole range of emotions. I was scared, angry and worried about my family’s future. I went back and forth myself about needing a pacemaker. Like you I talked to family and even another doctor to finally feel comfortable getting the surgery. I hope you can see the device as a helpful thing, it will be a battery backup for your heart. It will help you live longer. Thanks for sharing your personal experience, and I’m glad the videos are a little comforting for you. Sometimes it helps just to know others have been in the same situation as you. Just to update everyone on my situation, the hospital called about 3 days prior to my surgery and wanted to reschedule because of an equipment malfunction. Due to that I’m in the process of trying to find another hospital for the surgery. With the current Omicron situation, that is proving to be a challenge. There have been some other issues arise that have led me to lose faith in my cardiologist as well, so I’m essentially starting back over. It’s been frustrating.

I am 25 years old and now 39 weeks pregnant, I got a pace maker installed at 19 weeks pregnant (this pregnancy) for AV heart block. I just need some positive words when I lay on my left side where the pace maker is I feel it “pacing” or “pumping” if that makes sense. Is that okay? I am having my c section finally on February 15th in 3 days and I’m terrified something will go wrong with my pace maker.
@CyborgVlog
@CyborgVlog 2 года назад
Hi Taylor, it is normal to be worried and scared about the pacemaker and the c- section, even if they happened separately. Please bring your concerns to your doctors, the cardiologist may have an answer about your feeling the pace when your lay on your left side. It may just be because you are still healing, and after enough time, you will get used to the pacing and not notice it as much. Now about about giving birth, I hope you can reframe the situation and see the pacemaker as a good thing. While you are getting the c section, your pacemaker will keep your heart beating like it should. You don’t need to worry about AV block. I wish you the best, and hope you and the baby are well. Please Let me know how you are doing after.

I’ve been through them without any problems, but it depends on the device. I followed the recommendation of my pacemaker manufacturer and doctor. The risk of exposure to EM fields depends on the distance from the source and duration of the exposure. Most newer devices are shielded to be safe during normal exposure in public areas.
