Get ready for your morning routine in Task Force Admiral, where you'll engage in a carrier duel with the formidable Shokaku twins on a regular basis!
The user interface is still a work in progress with respect to final labels and names, but most elements are already in place - still, the basic stuff is already around and kicking. In this video, we set up Search, Combat Air Patrol and Strike missions first thing early in the morning, and both fleets manage to find each other practically at the same moment. The race is on...!

Incredible. Just superb stuff. This is the kind of stuff I dreamt about playing Carriers At War all those years ago. If only Ian Trout were around to see this. Keep up the fantastic work guys!

​@@ItsPaaat Yeah, he absolutely did. The passion he had for all the games he made, not just CaW, was phenomenal. I live in Sydney but unfortunately was too young to know who he was and where he lived until he passed away. I absolutely would've loved to have done an amateur interview with him and asked questions from youtube or just shaken his hand and said thanks for everything depending on his mood. RIP to a great guy, he really enriched our lives so much.

It's a honestly a calm sight to see the carriers sail in the Pacific under the glimmer of dawn. Rare breaks for the chaos that's about to unfold in these battles.

The calm is what is missing in games. Six weeks of sailing on bright blue seas and ten minutes of terror is what makes PacWar games special. Same as the war. Cant wait.

After having exhausted half the lifespan of my mouse hand making search patterns in War On The Sea that simple search tool and CAP automation is so beautiful, please keep automating away the tedium, that stuff gets in the way of gameplay too often in games like this. Can't wait for the release!

I wish the CAP patterns you make in War on the Sea dont just disappear the next day, if they did not the game would be 2 times better.

@@wahtx7717 They do loop now if you press the button that looks like a recycling icon! Applies for CV planes and airbase planes, a welcome addition from some updates ago now. There's also simple circle patterns that you just set the distance for and they loop around the TF, don't remember if that was always in the game though. Setting up search patterns on the fly is still the same mousebusting exercise though and they clutter up the map like crazy, not to mention setting up CAP/looping close range scout patterns and trying to figure out who's going where and which one of those flights just got shot down. The clutter, tediousness and unwieldyness of managing the air part of the game is unfortunately still holding the game back quite a lot, it's not the good kind of chaotic that you'd imagine managing carriers to be. I've still put in nearly 200 hours into the game and I'd still recommend it to any carrier enjoyers but a large part of that has been spent thinking about how much better it could be if more effort was put into the user experience.

Just the right level of detail! I love that the UI looks like clipboards. You've also taken the tedium out of creating search vectors and strike packages. Looking forward to combat!

Beautiful stuff on display here. I'm consistently impressed by the attention to detail, especially with regards to GUI/UX integrated art assets like the clipboard, flight plan board, CAP plot, etc. Keep up the great work!

Thank you! Aye, we tried to keep it as skeuomorphic as possible. Can't promise Highfleet-level of skeuomorphism of course, where everything seems analog & true to life (or how it's imagined in the case of that specific world building), but at least we're doing our best to learn from the good practices born from Silent Hunter 3, which certainly did set the original inspiration for all the games that came after in regard of how that stuff should be done as far as WW2 aesthetics go. Can we get a few pencils and a ruler? If I have a guess where an enemy fleet or ship may be calculating their projected range and such would be pretty helpful when planning patrols. Looks great!

Aye don't worry, you'll have your drawing box ready to doodle your way around :) Might have to be done outside of the mission management mode though. You can already measure distance between two points, the rest is incoming (including pre-set doodles during mission buiding, using the same set of tools)

So far the UI looks really intuitive and well thought-out. It's detailed, but not as confusing or bogged down in minutiae as wargames like Command: Modern Operations. I really like it! This game has come such a long way and it looks like you're getting close to having a playable demo! Can't wait!

As for CMO, they do have to cover a vastly superior number of years and cases, if not dimensions - their Harpoon-based UI was certainly the most logical pick and is most understandable in my humble opinion. You'll get the new stuff soon, as soon as playable nuggets are concerned, by the way!

Being a merchant mariner myself and seeing the level of detail in the management I really need to see how the game balances really stressful moments were a ton of orders need to go out on a lot of ships and planes fast at a moments notice and other days were theres pretty much nothing going on.. and ill say again , the level of detail and the scenery and planning options is unmatched. Another question is is there fog or humidity because you dont really get to see as far as the horizon goes

I'm super excited for this game but worried I'm gonna be lost in trying to learn it at the start (I've never played a Pacific war game beyond the "complexity" of Battlestations Pacific and Midway). Is there any games out there that i can try to learn in the meantime to prepare me for this type of game's launch?

Hello there! Not sure about that unfortunately, the Harpoon-Windows-like interface of CMO makes it very flexible when it comes to displaying over other stuff in all situations. Its GUI has taken some fire due to its bare, simple, functional appearance, but this is how you can manage it best, obviously. You basically never leave the main map, which is also the main interface, and all windows might kinda look similar - but that's also why you can play around with all of them, all the time, which is - as you say - a very welcome feature in a missile-age interconnected environment IMHO. In our case, even though the world in the background is the very same one as far as tech is concerned, the main canvas can have a lot of different uses (flagplot, 2D strat map, 3D tactical map and the full 3D external view, to name the main ones). The pace of the game is fortunately much slower than that of the missile age - based on my hands-on experience, not being able to play around windows with the same amount of freedom as in CMO shouldn't be too much of a hamper due to our genre & era, fortunately.

Do the carriers automatically turn into the wind or do they not factor that in? Or is it manually done?

Aye, carriers do turn automatically in the wind (this is what you see there). What you do though is telling them in which direction they should be heading when they're not conducting air operations. But you'll have to account for that when you launch birds (that is, you might very well have to travel in a different direction as long as you're conducting air ops, and impact gradually your original plan for the recovery plan of previous missions. I am afraid that's on you...! ^^)
