Raleigh (Charlie Hunnam) and his brother Yancy (Diego Klatternhoff), piloting the jaeger "Gipsy Danger", defend the Alaskian coastline from a Kaiju named Knifehead with heavy sacrifice.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Filmmaker Guillermo del Toro teams up with Legendary Pictures to bring audiences a unique take on the monster film with this sci-fi production. Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy) stars as a washed-out controller and pilot of a series of robots called Jaegers, which are put into production after Earth is invaded by a species of giant monsters, the Kaijus. The Brothers Bloom's Rinko Kikuchi co-stars as a trainee whom Hunnam is psychically paired with in order to pilot the last beacon of hope -- a decommissioned Jaeger assigned to stop the Kaijus once and for all. Let's look at the damage and pain Raleigh felt during this fight. - Felt his left arm being torn off. - Felt his chest getting stabbed. - Felt his head being ripped apart as it grabbed his brother. -And finally, experiencing what it's like to die since he was still linked with his brother. Honestly, it's understandable why he doesn't want to let anyone else drift with him because if they did, they'd feel everything he felt, and the feeling of death and that amount of pain probably traumatizing.

This scene shows that Uprising should have never happened. Teenagers piloting Jaegers was asking for trouble.

@Loli4lyf Yeah, and they used the excuse of Desperate time require desperate measures, if those kids were like actual recruits over 18 y.o and they have actual Jaeger experieces but never have any actual combats, and some of them actually died in the fight with the mega Kaiju, it would have been good. But noooo, of all the kids, the "Indian" kid died.

But you have to consider the tech in uprising. For one, the plasma beams were 10x as powerful as 4th gen jeagers like Gypsy Danger. So, that first plasma blast would have killed the Kaiju. In addtion, the 6th gen plasma cannons don't need to charge like GYpsy Danger's did. Plus, Gypsy Avenger has state of the art sensors, so it would have sensed Knifehead before he sneaked up behind the jeager. Now, if the teenagers had to pilot the 4th gen jeagers, they would have been destroyed. But if they had the new tech from the 6th gen jeagers, my money is on the teens.

@Loli4lyf yeah calling the Vets for help to kill Kaijus that have just been a better call, but we only know Herc and Raleigh at the time, don't even know they are alive or not, but if they do, on Mako's funeral they would show up and still around at the time when the drones went Kaijus. If the director decided to kill them both off screen that's a really dumb move .

Just remember, Riley was still in the drift with his brother the moment he died. So fighting the kaiju as well as mentally going through the experience of his brother's final moment and death was nothing more of extraordinary :3

Best part about this movie is how terrified it made me feel. I figured "oh yeah, I'm gonna watch a movie with giant robots in it. It'll be fun!" Then the first scene is literally one pilot dying and the Jaeger getting ripped to shreds. It made me believe that the humans are losing and there's no guarantee that they'll turn the tide. Follow up with four pilots dying quickly in the second fight and you've got an Evangelion styled recipe for fear. I appreciate Del Toro for adding that grown up gravity to an otherwise cartoonish film.

Physical, emotional, and mental pain piled on top of knowing he is the only one in a Jaeger that can stop this SoB Kaiju before it does some major damage. The single best scene in all of cinema history, and I will not be debating that.

This scene shows how competent a pilot Stacker was. He knew full well how disastrous an angry Kaiju is and ordered immediate evacuation, instead of holding position and battle a supposedly weakened kaiju. Great scene.

Retreating in deep water might've been impossible. Kaiju are more agile in water, Jaegers slower. Granted, Gypsy shouldn't have been so far out in the first place.

@@anxiousearth680As shown in the video and or movie, the brothers disobeyed a direct order from their commander Stacker and went too far out into the sea and found a boat in distress from a kaiju. That area is probably close to where kaijus appear and they have to be careful. Stacker knows full well what he's doing getting them to evacuate with the boat. But I suppose it's hard trying to in the water with the jaegar as it's a very big and heavy machine and they are slower in the water as compared to the kaijus and the kaiju clearly isn't dead and lurking in the water somewhere in ambush and therefore it made evacuation not exactly a good option too as the kaiju could ambush them from anywhere as they evacuate. The kaiju is in its element, not the jaegar. But I suppose its waterproof and maybe they could have improved it adding systems in there to enable better movements and combat protocols for fights and combats in the water.

NORODOM UNG well yeah, but they still weigh thousands of tons. Like in this movie Striker Eureka was very fast compared to the other jaegers but you could still feel the weight and momentum of him moving, in the second one, the jaegers are all floaty in a lot of scenes, not in all of them though.

No further than 15 minutes into the movie and we've already got a threat scale. Easily my favorite action movie, and while the story itself is ripped straight out of anime, the way they tell it puts it in a league of its own.

Later in the movie where Raleigh and Mako fights the kaiju that looks like gorilla,they killed it and walk away then Raleigh paused for a moment a said " Let check the pulse", then shoot the dead body several times to make sure it really is dead. He probably had flashback from this fight where they thought the kaiju was dead but it wasn't and this mistake got his brother killed.

raleigh was electrocuted when the other pilot was removed, implying that he can't really solo pilot a jaeger due to neural load that must be shared by two in order to keep upfloat. they never missed a detail

Really shows you how determined you need to be to even ATTEMPT piloting solo. Personally I think it has to do with adrenaline. If you have enough adrenaline in your system, you can pilot a full size Jaeger solo for a limited time with little to no repercussions, though this would inflict an insane amount of stress for a short period.

It was basically routing a 2 man setup into a single brain, which was ALREADY under a truly TITANIC amount of stress. Raleigh SAW and FELT his brother die (as they were Drifting) then had to take on the burden of piloting Gypsy Danger alone after suffering that insane level of trauma

If you watch when he grabbed his arm it was releasing electrical charges and when it happened it only happened over his left body cause that’s what was damaged so when he switched over to taking control of the right side it stop.

The only funny part about this scene is how the kaiju was just biting the destroyed min after it had ripped off Gypsy’s arm. The other gun is powering up, ready to kill it, and knife head was just like “oh let me just keep ripping the destroyed arm apart.” Lol, this was a great movie tho

My personal theory is that while it was doing the "smarter" actions (tearing off the left arm, attacking the con-pod, etc.) one of the creators of the Kaiju was directly controlling/influencing its actions to allow it to fight more efficiently. After the Jaeger was crippled and for all intents and purposes dying, they "released direct control" back to the Kaiju's more animalistic mind, figuring that the fight was over anyways. The Kaiju's mind was now thinking: large wounded thing right in front of me and in my claws, it must be food (it looked more like an animal tearing at a flesh wound in those last seconds, compared to its more calculated actions from just a few moments earlier). Thus, it didn't pay attention to the plasma cannon on the right arm because it no longer understood what it was.

If anyone complains about it took so long to charge the plasma cannon at the end its because the plasma cannon was charging to full power. That's why knifehead died instantly but in the scene where the plasma cannon was instantly charged it only pushed knifehead away and made it mad

It’s actually not why it’s because the plasma canon kept failing to charge due to knifehead ripping peices off of it calling power failure, you can hear the plasma canon having to restart its charge when Raleigh screams it’s because it’s reactor is failing

What Rayleigh did here is nothing short of extraordinary and cemented his reputation in the PPDC forever. To put it in perspective, out of the 50 elite highly trained Jaeger pilots that have existed, only one other person was able to do that, and that was Stacker. Rayleigh saved Anchorage, alongside hundreds of thousands of lives, at the cost of almost everything.

You can see at 1:42, when Pentacost is informed that Gipsy just lost an arm, he looks like he knows that they are now fighting a losing battle. Remember that he was the pilot for Coyote Tango and his partner died during a brawl with a kaiju (not onibaba). It makes sense he would give an expression like that.

The reason Raleigh killed Leatherback, so brutally later in the movie, was that he didn't want to make the same mistake he made with Knifehead in this video, as he assumed Knifehead was dead, but he was not and that mistake resulted in his brother Yancy's death

Too expensive accompanied by although cauterize wounds when fired still causes kaijus to release large amounts of kaiju blue that quickly pollutes lakes and leaves areas completely uninhabitable, what he said is pretty obvious if we look at how leatherback ended and all the pollution left by otachi and leatherback in hong kong city, accompanied by jeagers being designed so that kaijus do not release blood and die from internal bleeding (100iq)

I love this movie so much I love the monsters and the Mechs it's too bad that the sequel wasn't like this. Edit. I'm back three year's later. And this is still one of my favorite kaiju film's. Knifehead was a fantastic kaiju. And this was such a amazing scene. The emotion behind that last blast was just amazing! This is probably my favorite opening of any kaiju film.

Just realized- later on in the show, Gipsy kills Leatherback with the arm cannon using a couple shots. As they're walking away Riley says wait, and they turn around and empty the entire clip into to it to make sure it's dead. I feel like he did this because the last time he thought a kaiju was dead, it came back and killed his brother right in front of him. super sad when you think about it

Lmao, guillermo(director of pacific rim) He said at no point he was inspired by Evangelion and that he was annoyed that now any attempt to follow the legacy left by the past of robots vs monsters (kaijus) is a direct copy of what has been done in the past, He himself said that he made this film with the love and affection he developed to the kaijus and robots he had as a child, and finds it really annoying that constantly everyone says that one film or series is copy of another by the slightest thing, the attempt to do something never seen and tried to explain it and make it understandable as possible for children and adults who love the genre (something that even Evangelion did not want to do)

In all honesty, though it is a "canonical error" that knifehead's weight is 8700 tonnes, when you really look at it, it isn't that unreasonable for his weight to be that. The other kaiju & the Jaegers are far too light for their sizes. Knifehead is probably my favorite Kaiju and I think he would tear Slattern a new one in a realistic bout. His look is far-more intimidating and if you can imagine the force he can deliver with a ram of his head, what does slattern really have that could match that (besides toxicity... yes I get the higher-category Kaiju are more toxic). But really, how can Otachi be a category IV and Knifehead be a Category III when Knifehead is almost twice Otachi's height and much heavier-built. I like how the games depict this guy in varying categories, as I think rating him a category III is kinda silly.

This jaeger system same just like evangelion system. If your robot is hit then you will feel it too. Probably the reason jaeger/eva connected to the pilot nerve to make the robot easily move faster and to make easier for pilot to controll the jaeger/eva.
