Being the last Jaeger standing, Gipsy Danger takes on Leatherback.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Filmmaker Guillermo del Toro teams up with Legendary Pictures to bring audiences a unique take on the monster film with this sci-fi production. Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy) stars as a washed-out controller and pilot of a series of robots called Jaegers, which are put into production after Earth is invaded by a species of giant monsters, the Kaijus. The Brothers Bloom's Rinko Kikuchi co-stars as a trainee whom Hunnam is psychically paired with in order to pilot the last beacon of hope -- a decommissioned Jaeger assigned to stop the Kaijus once and for all. Thor's Idris Elba leads the rest of the starring cast, which includes Charlie Day, Rob Kazinsky and Ron Perlman.

Dude I love the attention to detail so much! Like at 1:54 he yells "empty the clip" so they empty the entire right cannon clip into Leatherback, so then when they check for a pulse at 2:40, they use the *left* arm cannon! Del Toro and his team were the best.

This whole scene really embodies the difference between the first and second movies. There's a lot of goofy stuff, like using container boxes like brass knuckles, sliding right to the edge of the pier, and the pulse-check quip, but dramatic timing was well-understood. The events were woven in to the action to create these "hell yeah" moments, instead of the pace of the action being _interrupted_ to highlight the moment for the audience. As unnatural as many of the actions were, they were inserted to look natural, and thus the audience could get into it; as opposed to the second movie, which just seemed like a string of "haha, look at the funny thing the giant robot is doing".

Yeah, and at least this one is within the bounds of realism. In the second, they were just throwing punches faster than the eye could see, like a martial artist. The first showed the difficulty of doing that with such a heavy machine. 0:30 perfectly exemplifies that. Gypsy's hits make contact moving quite fast, but you can see how after each hit they have to willfully stop their inertia, reverse, and reset, before they can throw another punch.

I’m glad I never watched the second movie. I always wanted to, just never had the time. Now I no it sucks. Also, I think the containers weren’t for brass knuckles, more for extra weight.

the decision to have the fighting scenes in bad weather conditions enabled them to give more texture to surfaces. the same is done in movies like the first jurassic park, where they used the rain and lighting to highlight body parts of the trex in its first scene to give it texture and make it look more realistic

Clips are used for small tool-like thingies that hold a certain number of bullets/shells (like en bloc clips of M1 Garand or Gew98 5 round stripper clips), clips load the bullets into a fixed or removable magazine, while mags are usually referring to the entire magazine

I just love how they blend comedy with story telling with that check for a pulse bit. Yes, it’s funny, but it also makes sense for Raleigh to make sure to double tap Kaijus whenever possible. The last time he got cocky and assumed the Kaiju was dead without making sure, his brother died and he felt that loss as well as the pain of losing his arm, finishing the Kaiju and trekking all the way back to shore all on his own. It just adds to how much he’s changed in the 5 years since Knifehead.

It also ties into the beginning of the movie. There the Gypsy crew didn't check that the Kaiju was actually dead before trying to rescue the civilian ship and it cost them. Because of that lesson, they make sure this one is dead before fighting the second.

But, the concept of the Boy being a human Kaiju hybrid was really interesting. And that hybrid Kaiju Jaegar was pretty cool too. The series has a lot of potential to be honest.

@@rexa2851 It was mate. But, all the Jaegars were supposed to be either transported to Sydney or destroyed. And, what do they stumble upon in the Shadow Basin? Atlas Destroyer, the very same training Jaegar that Taylor did his pilot program on. And Copperhead attacks the people at Shadow basis almost immediately after that siren goes off for a few seconds. As if he was just waiting next door looking for an invitation. Having said that, I really enjoyed the whole first season. Plot holes aside, the story is well written. And the animation was really well done.

I think Raleigh shooting leatherback when it was dead was to make sure it was really dead. It might be a reference to the fight with knifehead, where they assumed Knifehead was dead, but actually wasn't, and killed his brother

The cgi is nice but the sound design is so good as well. Every single steps Gypsy Danger make sound heavy and metalic, you can feel the weight of the machine with just sound alone.

Another thing that separates this from its sequel is how the camera angles are all made to be realistic. Every shot looks like it's filmed either from the ground, a building, a helicopter, or mounted to the Jaeger itself.

I haven't watched the movie on a long time, but I'm currently reading the novelization and its said that even after a neural handshake is broken, the Jaeger will react and move to what the pilot is thinking or dreaming.

I like how If both pilots aren’t looking in the same direction the jeager will kind of just stay there, but I’m questioning when mako goes to press the Coolant button later and she has to stop focusing on otachi and sort of unlodges herself if Raleigh has to take complete control or if gipsy just locks mako’s side in place till she gets back

i think she still shares the neuron load but since the pilot control system can detects the user's thoughts it can disconnects mako from her supposed controlling arms and transfers it into raleigh. that might explains why raleigh can hold the kaiju's tail while still maintains a safe load level on his brain. also raleigh literally said he'll hold the kaiju whilst telling mako to vent the coolant

2:30 On the list of "smart decisions made in movies", you know checking for a pulse was definitely one of them~ 😏 Otherwise Leatherback would have shown back up, helped double team against Gipsy and thus, this movie would have ended quite differently...

Ngl I prefer the bulkier and older jaegers. They look less like power rangers and look like something we can actually build given enough time and funding. Also love how they instinctively avoid causing unecessary damage to the city while fighting. It was better when they put adults in the pilot seats rather than some teenagers.

Death of Yancy aka Raleigh's brother is caused by their own negligence. When they fighting Knifehead, both of them are too confidence thinking that they make their own kill by make 3 shots of Plasma Cannon and presume the Kaiju is dead. And apparently not and Knifehead is still alive. The Knifehead strikes back and kill Yancy while the Jeager having too many damage. That's the reason why Rayleigh said "Let's check for pulse" is because he learned from his old mistake to make sure the Kaiju dead by checking Leatherback's pulses. Rayleigh now is improvise and learned from his past mistake and stay alert in future battle👍👍

Well instead of generation the power to shoot every time, i think it just charges the battery of the plasma canon to a certein degree.And a battery runs empty at some point.To my knowledge you cant just shoot you energy out and have plasma,so it has to be converted from energy into plasma,which likely takes some time,meaning having a battery would be more benefital.

It's more like a term of firing every single bullet from your gun, but instead of actual magazine (clips) they use energy reserves, most likely capacitors, because you can't just drag a bunch of energy from the generators.

pretty sure they work as default plasma rifles from Star Wars. Technically you have infinite shots but only have a certain ammount of shots before you need to stop due to overheat, either that or the weapons generates certain ammounts of energy per second so you can actually run out if u spam it but after a while its back to full

I just realized that even though Mako told him in the beginning, that she thinks Raleigh's fighting style is dangerous and to risky, when piloting, it is always him giving the commands due to his experience in real combat. Like he replied to her: In combat, you make decisions. And you have to deal with the consequences".
