I've seen many of your video's past weeks... Like em a lot. I think it's fun to share knowledge. I like your setup with the meters OSD,personally not fond of the auto mute on the mike. Awesome trick you got there with the lighter fluid... Maybe a FLIR camera (infrared) would be even better... It's very cool to diagnose electrical systems with IR.

10uf 25V cap, in this case, PC178. These particular caps, 10uf 25V, seem to be a very common fail point, and are used on practically every voltage rail in the Packard Bell, and Acer, laptop. In this case, there are 4 of these, in parallel, right together, on the B+ feed into the +CPU_CORE dc-to-dc converter. Nice video, thanks !

Very good teacher , and very helpful videos ... I have a Packard bell laptop too , I needed to replace a cable which operates the touch pad , sadly I plugged in the replacement short cable in upside down and it sparked and blow up , now I have no power , and it will not switch on at all , my question is would I simply replace the connector part the cable plugs into on the motherboard , or would I have blowed something else more important i.e. The CPU or power supply , there are no visible signs to it exploding , but I am not sure what I need to check with my multi meter ??? Many thanks

I love your teachings on laptop repair particularly. My Packard bell easynote te11hc is dead for 12 months now. When it is powered on, it stays on only for about 8 seconds, no display and then shots down. I watched your video and was not sure of any hot components. Am not sure what I did, then when the charger is connected the graphic chip area becomes very hot. How can I rectify that? Frank from Cameroon.

Hi I am working on one of these exact laptops. The customer says it went pop and will not power on. I looked at the charger cable and it does look like it has shorted. Upon opening the laptop, I can confirm the board is receiving 19v. nothing appears to be getting warm. However we have no lights and the power button is doing nothing. Is there any steps I can take to confirm the fault, or am I right in thinking after a charger short the board is beyond repair.
@iamnoob1586
@iamnoob1586 7 лет назад
I'm curious about how much voltage do you apply in finding/heating the shorted one. Is it ok to use the voltage output by normal PSU? or do I need to have a variable voltage/current supply?
@electronicsrepairschool
@electronicsrepairschool 7 лет назад
yes, always use amps limit and fixed voltage, in my case, 19v and probably 2-3 amps
@iamnoob1586
@iamnoob1586 7 лет назад
thanks btw, its a great help. I'm trying to fix mine, before sending it to the tech. (maybe I could diy, hehe) Hoping I can find some power supply locally. One last thing, Are there no components affected during short? since the shorted one is drawing all the power from the power supply.

@7:58 you set 12V 2A on your bench power supply. As you don't know which is + and which is - on the battery connector, you put the - of the power supply on the GND of the USB port, then the + of the power supply on one of the two battery connectors. As the power supply outputs 0.1A, you say it's a short, so that battery connector is - Why?? When you short the power supply, it should output 2A (current limit set on the power supply), not 0.1A!

What's the difference: linear power supply vs switching power supply There are two main designs for the DC power supplies: Linear DC Power Supplies and Switching DC Power Supplies. The traditional linear power supplies are typically heavy, durable, and have low noise across low and high frequencies. For this reason they are mostly suitable for lower power applications where the weight does not pose a problem. The switching power supplies are much lighter, more efficient, durable, and have limited high frequency noise due to the design. For this reason, the switching power supplies are not suitable for high frequency audio applications but are great for high power applications. Other than that, these two types are pretty much swappable for various applications, and they cost about the same to make. Switching power supplies are used more broadly nowadays than linear power supplies, we have seen some online seller saying that the switching power supplies are not suitable for plating (electroplating) or ionization, it is misleading and not true.

What is petro that you keep putting on the motherboard
@morphuk1
@morphuk1 6 лет назад
Donald Ellett He is saying "petrol" and Is actually lighter fluid. He uses it as it evaporates when something heats up. If a component is in short, it will draw more current and heats up. The "petrol" will evaporate faster on the shorted component and identifying the fault. I use isopropyl alcohol for the same reason and they are both safe to use as have virtually no water (i believe the petrol has none) making them non conductive and safe to use on electronics.
@donald1056
@donald1056 6 лет назад
An easy way to find a short - you use 70% or 90% alcohol
@morphuk1
@morphuk1 6 лет назад
Personally, I wouldnt use 70% as it has measurable conductivity.
